This product is similar to my own product because this is
the short film that inspired me to make my knife crime
awareness video, this screenshot from the short film
shows how dangerous it is to carry a knife or any sharp
object and have it be used as a weapon.
The angle of this scene shows a man attacking another
man by stabbing and kicking him on the ground with a
group of other teenagers surrounding him and
encouraging the man. The costumes that the actors are
wearing are all black and this makes it even more
disturbing when they are out in the dark. The props used
in this scene are fake blood and a fake knife, these features
are similar to what my short film includes.
The pace of this scene is very suspenseful, at the beginning
of the scene we see Amani run away from the group of
boys but they later catch up with him to attack him, at this
point in the scene we see flashing white images as the man
attacks Amani, this gives the audience the sense of shock
on what is happening, the white flashing images appear
each time amani is getting hit and stabbed. The lighting in
this clip Is really dark and dim, this makes the scene create
a sense of fear for the audience.
Existing Product
This product is similar to my poster because this
poster is dark and sinister like how I wanted mine to
be, it is set in a dark tunnel with a body on the floor
after a potential altercation has occurred between
him and the dark figure you can see walking into the
far distance. This is similar to my poster because I
also wanted mine to frightening and disturbing, I
want it to look real and have some sort of demonic
vibe to it. This is because my movie focuses on knife
crime and so does this movie that this existing poster
is based on, I feel like it’s a good project to use for
inspiration. The colours in this poster are very dark
and dim. This poster makes the audience want to
watch this movie because all they know about it is
that the man on the floor has had a incident with the
dark figure, this makes viewers want to know more.
The angle is looking straight throught the tunnel, the
lighting starts off dark then in the far distance it gets
brighter.
Existing Product
This product is similar to my own because this is the same
sort of story I am going for, this scene ends with a teenager
who carries his own knife and ends up getting stabbed by
the weapon that is in his hand, this is the climax of my short
film.
The location that this is filmed in is a quiet part of the town,
the costumes the two characters are wearing are very
popular with people in my targeted age group. This appeals
to the audience because of the tension build up. you don’t
know what is going to happen next when he pulls out the
knife, he could threaten him, stab him or even end up
getting stabbed himself when the other boy tries to defend
himself against the knife. The pace of this scene is very
dramatic, the scene starts with a heated argument about a
problem the two boys have had, the scene then moves to
the teenager pulling a knife out and threatening to kill the
other teen. The ighting in this scene is very bright, this is
good for this scene because you are able to see the
characters more clearly. The target audience for this short
film is males ages 16-25, especially who can relate to the
two characters
Existing Product
This product is similar to my poster because this poster is
also dark and haunting, it shows two people on different
sides of the knife, it makes it look like one of these people
has tried to use the weapon on the other person. This is
what I want mine to seem like. This is also similar to my
poster because I also wanted mine to look chilling and
nerve-racking, I want it to look terrorising and to have a dark
mood set to it. This is because my movie focuses on knife
crime and I feel like this is a good poster to use for ideas and
brainstorming. The colours in this poster are very dark and
bright at the same time. There is a mix between light and
dark colours such as red blue and black. This poster makes
the audience want to watch this film because all they know
about it is that it focuses on a man and a woman who
potentially have a deadly interaction with a knife. The
lighting in this poster is a mixture between dark and light, at
the top of the knife it looks very dark and on the bottom of
the knife it has gotten lighter, this could represent good and
bad in this movie. The audience that this movie would
appeal to it possibly male and females ages 20-25
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
– The common features that my researched products have is that they all have a
connection to knives, this is important since my video focuses on knifes and
the problems they bring. They also have similar colour styles, dark mixed with
bright. They have a meaning behind the products, to show people that
carrying a sharp object as a weapon with or without intent to use against
another person is a bad choice and will affect you and other members in
drastic ways. Another common feature that my researched products have is
the editing styles, this kind of editing style is really similar to mine and I knew I
had the skills to adopt the same style.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
– The main aspects of my research that I will include in my final product are the
visual effects, the colour mixes to fit with the atmosphere of the film, similar
goo looking font styles to make it look professional and clean rather than have
a messy font style and have it look improper. The special effects will be my
most used aspect, I will show good visuals when filming and have stabilized
camera shots, I will also a good range of sound and audio effects.
Questionnaire Analysis
By Alfie Pimblett
Audience research
• Observation:
The observation of this part of my survey shows that 100% of my audience are between the ages of 15 – 18.
• What this says about my audience:
What this says about my audience is that it is mostly this age group that’s familiar with this topic and can understand
and talk about it the most when it comes to knife crime.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
My product will appeal to my audience because I think realistically most people who are affected by knife crime are in
this specific age group, this is good because it means my product will relate to them more. Its also a good thing because
I feel younger people need to be more aware and educated about this topic because it is also people in this age group
that chose to carry sharp weapons.
Audience research
• Observation:
The observation on this part of my survey shows that the majority of my audience is male, 70% of my audience are
male where on the other hand only 30% are female.
• What this says about my audience:
What this part of my survey says about my audience is that males are more likely to be more familiar with this chosen
subject than females, statistically more males are involved in incidences which involve knives.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
My product will appeal to my audience because young males are affected by knife crime more than females so if more
males watch my awareness video then it could hopefully make them realise how much of a problem knife crime is and
it could educate them on how to avoid getting involved in situations that involve knives.
Audience research
• Observation:
The observation on this part of my survey shows that the 80% of my audience do not agree with people possessing
sharp objects/knives
• What this says about my audience:
This tells me that my audience realise that carrying knives is a dangerous route to take and there will be other ways to
protect yourself.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
This product will appeal to my audience because I feel my audience understand the dangers revolving around knife
crime and would be interested in learning more.
Audience research
• Observation:
The observation on this part of my survey shows that 80% of my audience agree that knife crime is a becoming a huge
problem, on the other hand the remaining 20% of my audience do not think it is that serious, this question shows two
different opinions on this topic.
• What this says about my audience:
This tells me that my audience have different opinions on how serious they think knife crime is, the 80% that do think it
is serious are likely more educated about it whereas the remaining 20% might not know as much about it.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
This product will appeal to my audience because in my short film I will be addressing how much of a problem this is and
including facts and statistics showing how many people are affected by this each year.
Audience research
• Observation:
The observation on this part of my survey shows that 80% of my audience would never carry a knife because they
probably know what knives can do to people whether you intend to protect yourself or use it upon someone. This also
shows that the remaining 20% says it would depend on the reason they chose to carry a knife.
• What this says about my audience:
This part of my survey says that my audience are definitely cautious about carrying knives and know the risks, even
though 20% said they would only carry a knife if it depended on it, not one person answered yes on the survey.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
My product will appeal to my audience because in my short film I will be including some scenes that could end up being
real life for people that choose to carry knives.
Audience research
• Observation:
The observation on this part of my survey shows that 70% of my audience think that social media can influence knife
violence, 30% do not agree with this question.
• What this says about my audience:
This shows that my audience know and are aware of the fact that social media can influence younger people to fool
with knives, this could happen by someone looking at a picture of another person posing with a knife and thinking of
dong the same because they think its okay to do.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
My product will appeal to my audience because I will include social media influencing in my short film by showing how
the character gets into the mind set of choosing to carry and use a knife..
Audience research
• Observation:
The observation on this part of my survey shows that 60% of my audience think that people carry knives for protection,
20% to try and intimidate other people and 20% to try and fit in with the crowd.
• What this says about my audience:
What this question tells me about my audience is that the majority / 80% believe most people who carry knives do it
for their own protection. This could mean they think that going out without a knife is dangerous or that they just use a
knife if something bad is going to happen.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
My product will appeal to my audience because my short film will include a character that chooses to carry a knife for
one of these reasons.
Audience research
• Observation:
The observation for this part of the survey shows that 90% of people think knife crime happens in London the most,
this is a fact. The remaining 10% of my audience say Manchester has it the most.
• What this says about my audience:
This tells me that my audience are aware of he facts ton where knife crimes reported the most, London is the one place
where a crime involving a sharp object get reported every 16 minutes.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
My product will appeal to my audience because I am not going to be filming in London, I'm going to be filming my short
film in a normal town to show that knife crime happens all over the country and not just certain places in particular.
Audience research
• Observation:
The observation in this part of my survey shows that 88.8% of my audience do not agree that knife crime only affects
young people, this is true. Knife crime can effect anybody, it affects the victim, the victims family and friends and even
the family and friends of the attacker.
• What this says about my audience:
This shows me that my audience are aware about the problems knives can cause for people, not just the victim but
people close to them.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
My product will appeal to my audience because my short film will show that knife crime not only affects young peoples
lives but also much older people too, this can be older victims, family, parents.
Audience research
• Observation:
The observation in this part of my survey shows that 50% would tell the police if they caught someone carrying a knife
whereas 30% would confront them about it and the remaining 20% would do nothing.
• What this says about my audience:
this shows me that my most of audience know the right thing to do, even though they don’t want their friend or
someone they don’t know to be in trouble with the police, a knife that gets taken off them by the police could mean a
life has been saved.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
My product will appeal to my audience because in my film it does show peoples reactions to people that carry knives
and what they would chose to do about it.
Interviews
Interview 1
• Do you agree that knife crime is a serious subject to be concerned about.
yes I think knife crime needs urgent attention as people are dying everyday.
I believe the police need more power to get this epidemic under control, obviously
they cannot stop it completely but they should be making a difference.
• Do you agree that knife crime is affecting the country.
Yes it affects the country dearly, it affects London the worst out of any city in this
country. It is usually in city's with rough areas where people struggle to earn money,
this can cause violence by robbery's and fighting for money
• Do you agree that knife crime has been influenced by social media.
Yes I believe it is a cause of knife crime. Knife crime is becoming a trend among young
people, it is getting out of control, over 40,000 people were Affected by knives in
2018.
Interview 1
• Observation:
My observation on this interview is that they do think knife crime is a serious
problem, they also think it does affect the country and that social media plays a
part in it. They also said that the police deserve to have more power and should
do something to make a change about knife crime.
• What this says about my audience:
What this says about my audience is that they understand how dangerous the
knife crime epidemic is becoming and they want something to be done about it
and make a change to it.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
My product will appeal to my audience because there is uses of social media
influencing in my product, this could be interesting for people who don’t think
social media plays a part in knife crime.
Interview 2
• Do you agree that knife crime is a serious subject to be concerned about.
Yes especially when it comes to young gangs in large cities like London. Furthermore, this is both
destructive and dangerous to the youth because it causes a chain reaction because when one
person carries a knife then more and more people want to carry. This is both because of
protection and within a smaller majority it is for usage and to try and because the most “elite”
gang member within your ends.
• Do you agree that knife crime is affecting the country.
Yes, especially the city areas because it is causing a lot of tension and danger in the cities thus
affecting them and the communities within them. Also it is causing great grief because of the
mass injuries and the tragic deaths.
• Do you agree that knife crime has been influenced by social media.
Social media isn’t always the main influence and motivation for knife crime, however, it has
certainly played a part in motivating them, because a lot of these people who will use a knife will
brag about it of social medias, such as Instagram and most commonly Snapchat. In conclusion, I
do agree that social media has played a significant part in influencing knife crime.
Interview 2
• Observation:
My observation on this interview is that they think a small minority of people carry knives
to show off, act tough and scare people. Whereas most people use knives for protection,
they do think that knife crime is a serious problem to get sorted out. They do not think that
social media plays a big part in influencing people to carry knives.
• What this says about my audience:
What this shows about my audience is that they know the statistics of the different areas of
knife crime such as uses for protection, why they carry knifes and where knife crime is most
popular they do not think that social media is a specific cause for knife crime but it can
definitely motivate someone to want to hurt someone if people are spreading rumours
about you are lies.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
my product will appeal to my audience because my film shows that knife crime
can happen anywhere in the country, even small towns and villages, it also shows
clips of social media influencing so this could make my audience realise that it
does play a part in this epidemic.

Research Evaluation
Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the
strengths and weaknesses of each method
– Product Research
The strengths of my product research are that i was able to find out facts about knife crime and educate myself on the
topic and learn new things I was not aware of.
The weaknesses of my product research was that the one thing I really found out was statistics about knife crime, this was
good but I wish I learned about peoples experiences with knifes more because then I can make my film relatable to their
own experiences.
– Questionnaires
The strengths of my questionnaires are that I get to ask my audience questions and see their responses on how they feel
about the things I ask them.
The weaknesses of my questionnaires are that some people might not agree with what I am saying and then ill need to
create a new question to ask them, finding the right questions is hard because not everyone will agree.
– Interviews
The strengths of my interviews are that I get to personally find out how my audience feel about knife crime, find out their
opinions and what they think triggers someone to go that far with a knife.
The weaknesses of my interviews are that they both have similar views on the epidemic, It would have been good for both
to have separate and different opinions so I could compare them both.
Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
The responses that I got from my survey were very helpful responses to my
questions that helped me create my product because I got to understand how
people felt about knife crime and I knew what to include in my short film without
making it offensive or insensitive towards people that could have been affects by
knives.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
I distributed my survey via survey monkey where I collected data to pander my
target audience, thus being able to enjoy it more because they like the specific
features that will be included within the products. A disadvantage to this would
be that it is quite a time consuming task to complete, this is because of all the
questions I needed to merge together to create this suvey.

2. fmp research (done)

  • 2. Existing Product This product is similar to my own product because this is the short film that inspired me to make my knife crime awareness video, this screenshot from the short film shows how dangerous it is to carry a knife or any sharp object and have it be used as a weapon. The angle of this scene shows a man attacking another man by stabbing and kicking him on the ground with a group of other teenagers surrounding him and encouraging the man. The costumes that the actors are wearing are all black and this makes it even more disturbing when they are out in the dark. The props used in this scene are fake blood and a fake knife, these features are similar to what my short film includes. The pace of this scene is very suspenseful, at the beginning of the scene we see Amani run away from the group of boys but they later catch up with him to attack him, at this point in the scene we see flashing white images as the man attacks Amani, this gives the audience the sense of shock on what is happening, the white flashing images appear each time amani is getting hit and stabbed. The lighting in this clip Is really dark and dim, this makes the scene create a sense of fear for the audience.
  • 3. Existing Product This product is similar to my poster because this poster is dark and sinister like how I wanted mine to be, it is set in a dark tunnel with a body on the floor after a potential altercation has occurred between him and the dark figure you can see walking into the far distance. This is similar to my poster because I also wanted mine to frightening and disturbing, I want it to look real and have some sort of demonic vibe to it. This is because my movie focuses on knife crime and so does this movie that this existing poster is based on, I feel like it’s a good project to use for inspiration. The colours in this poster are very dark and dim. This poster makes the audience want to watch this movie because all they know about it is that the man on the floor has had a incident with the dark figure, this makes viewers want to know more. The angle is looking straight throught the tunnel, the lighting starts off dark then in the far distance it gets brighter.
  • 4. Existing Product This product is similar to my own because this is the same sort of story I am going for, this scene ends with a teenager who carries his own knife and ends up getting stabbed by the weapon that is in his hand, this is the climax of my short film. The location that this is filmed in is a quiet part of the town, the costumes the two characters are wearing are very popular with people in my targeted age group. This appeals to the audience because of the tension build up. you don’t know what is going to happen next when he pulls out the knife, he could threaten him, stab him or even end up getting stabbed himself when the other boy tries to defend himself against the knife. The pace of this scene is very dramatic, the scene starts with a heated argument about a problem the two boys have had, the scene then moves to the teenager pulling a knife out and threatening to kill the other teen. The ighting in this scene is very bright, this is good for this scene because you are able to see the characters more clearly. The target audience for this short film is males ages 16-25, especially who can relate to the two characters
  • 5. Existing Product This product is similar to my poster because this poster is also dark and haunting, it shows two people on different sides of the knife, it makes it look like one of these people has tried to use the weapon on the other person. This is what I want mine to seem like. This is also similar to my poster because I also wanted mine to look chilling and nerve-racking, I want it to look terrorising and to have a dark mood set to it. This is because my movie focuses on knife crime and I feel like this is a good poster to use for ideas and brainstorming. The colours in this poster are very dark and bright at the same time. There is a mix between light and dark colours such as red blue and black. This poster makes the audience want to watch this film because all they know about it is that it focuses on a man and a woman who potentially have a deadly interaction with a knife. The lighting in this poster is a mixture between dark and light, at the top of the knife it looks very dark and on the bottom of the knife it has gotten lighter, this could represent good and bad in this movie. The audience that this movie would appeal to it possibly male and females ages 20-25
  • 6. Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have? – The common features that my researched products have is that they all have a connection to knives, this is important since my video focuses on knifes and the problems they bring. They also have similar colour styles, dark mixed with bright. They have a meaning behind the products, to show people that carrying a sharp object as a weapon with or without intent to use against another person is a bad choice and will affect you and other members in drastic ways. Another common feature that my researched products have is the editing styles, this kind of editing style is really similar to mine and I knew I had the skills to adopt the same style. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? – The main aspects of my research that I will include in my final product are the visual effects, the colour mixes to fit with the atmosphere of the film, similar goo looking font styles to make it look professional and clean rather than have a messy font style and have it look improper. The special effects will be my most used aspect, I will show good visuals when filming and have stabilized camera shots, I will also a good range of sound and audio effects.

This also shows that the remaining 20% says it would depend on the reason they chose to carry a knife. • What this says about my audience: This part of my survey says that my audience are definitely cautious about carrying knives and know the risks, even though 20% said they would only carry a knife if it depended on it, not one person answered yes on the survey. • How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to my audience because in my short film I will be including some scenes that could end up being real life for people that choose to carry knives.
  • 13. Audience research • Observation: The observation on this part of my survey shows that 70% of my audience think that social media can influence knife violence, 30% do not agree with this question. • What this says about my audience: This shows that my audience know and are aware of the fact that social media can influence younger people to fool with knives, this could happen by someone looking at a picture of another person posing with a knife and thinking of dong the same because they think its okay to do. • How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to my audience because I will include social media influencing in my short film by showing how the character gets into the mind set of choosing to carry and use a knife..

I believe the police need more power to get this epidemic under control, obviously they cannot stop it completely but they should be making a difference. • Do you agree that knife crime is affecting the country. Yes it affects the country dearly, it affects London the worst out of any city in this country. It is usually in city's with rough areas where people struggle to earn money, this can cause violence by robbery's and fighting for money • Do you agree that knife crime has been influenced by social media. • 21. Interview 2 • Do you agree that knife crime is a serious subject to be concerned about. Yes especially when it comes to young gangs in large cities like London. Furthermore, this is both destructive and dangerous to the youth because it causes a chain reaction because when one person carries a knife then more and more people want to carry. This is both because of protection and within a smaller majority it is for usage and to try and because the most “elite” gang member within your ends. • Do you agree that knife crime is affecting the country. Yes, especially the city areas because it is causing a lot of tension and danger in the cities thus affecting them and the communities within them. Also it is causing great grief because of the mass injuries and the tragic deaths. • Do you agree that knife crime has been influenced by social media. Social media isn’t always the main influence and motivation for knife crime, however, it has certainly played a part in motivating them, because a lot of these people who will use a knife will brag about it of social medias, such as Instagram and most commonly Snapchat. In conclusion, I do agree that social media has played a significant part in influencing knife crime.
  • 22. Interview 2 • Observation: My observation on this interview is that they think a small minority of people carry knives to show off, act tough and scare people. Whereas most people use knives for protection, they do think that knife crime is a serious problem to get sorted out. They do not think that social media plays a big part in influencing people to carry knives. • What this says about my audience: What this shows about my audience is that they know the statistics of the different areas of knife crime such as uses for protection, why they carry knifes and where knife crime is most popular they do not think that social media is a specific cause for knife crime but it can definitely motivate someone to want to hurt someone if people are spreading rumours about you are lies. • How will your product appeal to this audience: my product will appeal to my audience because my film shows that knife crime can happen anywhere in the country, even small towns and villages, it also shows clips of social media influencing so this could make my audience realise that it does play a part in this epidemic.
  • 23. Audience Profile Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience Age Range The age range for my movie is 18-20 • The contents to appeal to this audience in my film are Violence, knife crime. Strong language. Gender Preferbly males who can relate to knife crime. • No content aimed to just entertain one specific gender. Psychographic Students, teenagers, media interests, still at home • Young actors, teenager gang groups, street crime. Social Status Dependent - teenagers • The godfather, American gangster.
  • 25. Research Evaluation • Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method – Product Research The strengths of my product research are that i was able to find out facts about knife crime and educate myself on the topic and learn new things I was not aware of. The weaknesses of my product research was that the one thing I really found out was statistics about knife crime, this was good but I wish I learned about peoples experiences with knifes more because then I can make my film relatable to their own experiences. – Questionnaires The strengths of my questionnaires are that I get to ask my audience questions and see their responses on how they feel about the things I ask them. The weaknesses of my questionnaires are that some people might not agree with what I am saying and then ill need to create a new question to ask them, finding the right questions is hard because not everyone will agree. – Interviews The strengths of my interviews are that I get to personally find out how my audience feel about knife crime, find out their opinions and what they think triggers someone to go that far with a knife. The weaknesses of my interviews are that they both have similar views on the epidemic, It would have been good for both to have separate and different opinions so I could compare them both.
  • 26. Research Evaluation – What sort of a response did you get? The responses that I got from my survey were very helpful responses to my questions that helped me create my product because I got to understand how people felt about knife crime and I knew what to include in my short film without making it offensive or insensitive towards people that could have been affects by knives. – How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage I distributed my survey via survey monkey where I collected data to pander my target audience, thus being able to enjoy it more because they like the specific features that will be included within the products. A disadvantage to this would be that it is quite a time consuming task to complete, this is because of all the questions I needed to merge together to create this suvey.
