This document describes the development of a prototype multiplex lateral flow device (LFD) that can simultaneously detect foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) and identify its serotype (O, A, or Asia1). The test takes only a few minutes without any specialized equipment. Performance of the multiplex LFD was comparable to antigen-ELISA testing. Further validation is underway in endemic areas, along with developing an LFD to identify SAT1 and SAT2 FMDV serotypes.

The LFD is suited for timely ON-SITE FMD DIAGNOSIS
We developed a prototype multiplex LFD for FMDV
detection (pan-FMDV) and simultaneous serotyping of
FMDV O, A, Asia1 in a single strip
The test takes few minutes without requiring any
equipment
OUTPUT
The performances of the Antigen-ELISA and the multiplex
LFD are comparable, as the same catching and detector
monoclonal antibodies are used in both kits.
MULTIPLEX LFD = MULTIPLEXING CAPABILITY AND MAXIMUM SIMPLICITY
