Different Types of Insects
Analyze Learners-
General Character: This is a second grade classroom with 10 boys and 12 girls. 90% of the
students are Caucasian, while 5% are Asian, and 5% are African American. 2 of the boys in the
class have mild ADHD and one of the girls suffers from a learning disability.
Learning Style- The majority of the students’ learning modality is tactile kinesthetic.
Specific Entry Competencies- Ask students if they have a favorite insect and what it is. Then ask
what other types of insects they know of.
State objectives-
Students will identify and research different types of insects. They will view a digital poster on
the types of insects, view the “Ants Musical” poster and brainstorm ideas for what it would be
like, then visit the classroom facebook to research information on one of the insects on the
digital poster using the link provided. Finally, the students will be put in groups of 3-4 and create
a script that includes at least 5 informative facts for one of the insects they researched. During
this process, students will have access to iPads to use to write the script, as well as, collaborate
with other groups on the facebook page. This will be done in one day’s time with 90-100%
accuracy.

Require Learner Participation- Each student will discuss an idea for the “Ants Musical” poster to give
examples for future assignment and each student will collaborate on facebook and with their group
about the script.
Evaluate and Revise- Students will be evaluated on their usage of the link and other resources to create
a script.
