Analyze Learners-
General Character: This is a second grade classroom with 10 boys and 12 girls. 90% of the
students are Caucasian, while 5% are Asian, and 5% are African American. 2 of the boys in the
class have mild ADHD and one of the girls suffers from a learning disability.
Learning Style- The majority of the students’ learning modality is tactile kinesthetic.
Specific Entry Competencies- Have students sketch all of the insects they can think of and their
habitats
State Objectives-
Students will identify habitats of common insects and reflect on their new and prior knowledge
by watching a video on habitats, visiting a guided website and a Secondlife destination, and
commenting on a Reddit Post under /r/todayIlearned. Students will choose 4 insects from the
guided website and read the “My Home” section of each, then they will log in to Secondlife and
go to the InsectMania destination and attempt to find their chosen insects’ habitats or
alternative insects if some not available. Once they have done this, the students will log in to
Reddit.com and find the post by the teacher and reflect on what they have learned about each
insect. This will be done in one day with 90-100% accuracy.
