2. Process
• For my experiments I first
decided that for my project I
would need to learn how to
use the most effective
software for the type of
project I was making so I
needed to learn how to use
InDesign as it’s the best tool
for assorting my text over
images and using the grids and
tools to get it to look like a real
book.
• I started by getting an image as
a test and laying over some
basic text to see how it all
worked, I also incorporated a
bleed but decided it wouldn't
be needed as I will be
uploading my book digitally
and it wouldn't be printed.
3. This is the 2nd attempt I had at making a
design test for the cover of my book this
was after an hour or 2 of getting used
to the new software and trying out
different tools.
I used the color matching tool to make
the colors in the text match up with the
colors from my background image
which in my opinion looks much better
than just having white text.
I was going for a simplistic look as with
my research id seen that lots of
photography book covers were simple
in their covers in style and nice and neat
text that doesn't’t take up too much of
the screen.
The image and colors are not final as I
haven't decided fully on a color scheme
yet.
4. For my next experiment I switched it up a
lot from the designs and style of the others,
firstly I decided to test out the style in
portrait view and make the image not take
up the whole cover and allow for some
space around it as I wanted to fit some text
that could be easily seen at a 1st glance.
The style of having one big imagine in the
middle is to show off the fact that this is
easily recognizable as a photo book.
I also decided to go with a more neutral
color pallet as the other was too dark and
wouldn't be right for someone reading so I
found this image I took and used the
InDesign color swatches that it takes from
the image to keep the text colors matching
with the image and style.
I also opted for a white backdrop for the
text and image as it has a nice clean cut
look to it that the previous designs didn't’t
have it keeps the viewers eyes focused on
the middle and the text.
5. Slight variations on the text and placements I thought made feel fuller and added that extra
needed wording added a fake sponsor by a large format camera company named Chamonix
camera.

9. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in
your final product?
• I will definitely be using lots of elements from my
experiments as the designs made in my final;
experiments are very similar to how id like my final one
to look with the nice cream backdrop and large font at
the top of my page.
• I will also be using the portrait view for my final design
of the book as I felt landscape was to overused in the
photobook market and I think I can organise my pages
better if I do it this way which will help me make my
work look better.
