Harry T. Docwra reflects on the process of creating a double page spread and cover for a production. They selected photos from Instagram and edited them in Photoshop. For the cover, they took a photo of themselves holding a camera and pasted it over a sunset background with lowered opacity. They created the title in three layers using the "Impact" bold font to make it stand out against the background. A yellow circle was cropped from an image search and used to add typed text in "Din Condensed" font. Text for the photos was typed in Word first for spelling and grammar checks before being copy and pasted into InDesign, but the text feels out of place against the photos.
2. Process
To find the right photos I went
onto my Instagram page and
selected ones that I wanted to
use for my double page spread. I
screenshotted them, sent them
to myself and pasted them into
Photoshop where edited them
into how I wanted them to look. I
chose these images because I
thought they looked the most
beautiful and I felt like I could
talk about them more. I like how
the page looks, the inclusion of
the sunset makes it makes it very
pleasing to look at.
3. Process
To make this front cover I took an
old photo of me holding a camera
and pasted it over a picture of a
sunset. I used the Lasso tool to
crop out the background that was
with the photo and turned down
the opacity to make it blend in
with the background. I think the
effect looks good and is the most
aesthetically pleasing part of the
cover. (It is my personal favourite
part of the cover).
4. Process
I made three layers to create
the text, one for each word. I
did this because I thought it
was the best way to make the
title look good as well as use
the font, which was âImpactâ
with the âBoldâ selection. This
made the title stand out more
with the background. I think it
can really grab someoneâs
attention who would want to
read it.
5. Process
To make the circle I used google
images to find an image of a
yellow circle. Once I found the
correct one to use, I used the
lasso tool to to crop the image
to just get the circle. I then used
the text tool in InDesign to add
in what I wanted to type. I used
Din Condensed for the text because
I liked how it stands out and
grabs the viewers attention.
6. Process
To add the text to all of the photos I
used the text tool on InDesign to draw
text boxes under/next to the photos.
But before I wrote any text I typed it
all up in Microsoft Word to make sure
there wasnât any problems with the
spelling or grammar since InDesign
doesnât have those. I then copy and
pasted the text into InDesign and this
was the result. I like how it looks but
the text feels almost out of place, if I
had used a different font or colour for
it, it might have looked better.
