Evaluation question 6
1. Evaluation Question 6
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE
PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?
2. Photoshop
Specifically, the tools I used where the dodge tool where I could add shadows to
certain areas in order to give the image dimension. It is also useful to colour or re-
colour anything in the image like clothes to make the magazine more professional and
clean up the images. Another tool I used was the lasso tool which selected specific
areas of the image in order to change them. This allowed me to correct any small
mistakes and make the image look good overall. This also allowed the details of the
image to be more professional. I also learnt how learnt a new tool called rulers, which
put borders around the image in order to filter out anything unnecessary, this was
useful as it stopped images being too cluttered and allowed for easier formatting of
text. The main tools I used were hue, saturation and colorize tools, these allowed me
to change the colours of the magazine, this was very important as the colour scheme
needed to match to portray the genre. By colouring the magazine in a unique way, it
looks more professional and unique.
3. InDesign
This programme helped me design my contents page and it was very useful. I learnt a
variety of new techniques, for example how add images without copy and pasting, in
order to ensure a high quality image, I also learnt how to line up text and format the
page in order to make it an A3 page which followed the media conventions. I also used
gradients in order to add depth to the colours of my magazine which allows the
magazine to appear unique. For my DPS I arranged my article into columns in order to
make the magazine more professional, and follow conventions of music magazines.
Overall, I learnt a lot when using these programmes and it helped a lot when making
my magazine.
4. Illustrator
This was also new to me and helped me design a masthead for my magazine, I learnt
tools like the point tool in order to alter individual letters and I mainly used colours to
portray my genre of music, however I decided to keep my masthead big and simple in
order to attract readers, I matched my colour scheme and I made it bold and big,
similar to VIBE magazine which was one of my case studies in Task 2
5. Prezi
I have used this technology before, however I learnt new techniques like how to
match images with slides, as well as how to time different transitions from slide to
slide. It is very useful for presentations as it allows information to be conveyed in a
unique, interesting way. I can also save multiple Prezi at once into one file which
saves time.
6. Timetoast
This was a new technology that allowed me to organise a timeline for each of my
tasks, this was very helpful for organising my work and giving me incentive to
complete my work, I could add captions in order give specific details of what I have to
do. Overall, Timetoast was very useful for organising my work and by giving me
specific targets, it helps focus the work I am doing.
7. Blogger
This was one of the most useful technologies I used as it allowed me to share my
progress, and I learnt many things while using blogger, the first was how to change the
layout in order to match it to the genre of music that my magazine. This ranged from
headers and footers, text type and colours of borders, as well as the layout of the text
with images. I could also add a background image which made the blog more
interesting and unique. I could also receive feedback on my work as people could
leave comments on my blog, this was useful in order to improve my work’s quality and
progress more. I used hyperlinks to show videos or link to specific websites, and I
could also show any presentations I have done without using links that take you to a
different site, this is more convenient and useful. Overall, Blogger allows me to
present my progress in an accurate way and it has a variety of tools in order to convey
my work in a visually interesting and complex way that is still easy to use.
8. Photography
This includes the lighting equipment that I used during my photography sessions, I
learnt to use the DSLR Canon camera and the various settings on the camera, for
example toggling the exposure means the light colours and the light won’t blow out
the image. I used auto focus in order to make sure the photos came out clear and the
subject of the photo was seen properly, these made the photos look more professional
as they were high quality and were lit professionally. The lighting equipment was easy
to use and helped create a good look for my magazine, I used three point lighting to
light the model and the photos came out looking professionally. I could use dials on the
lights to increase the brightness or dimness of the image which helped as I could add
dynamic lighting to the image. Overall, I learnt a lot from using all the photography
equipment that helped me get the aesthetic I want for my magazine that portrayed my
genre well.
