Working Title: Eve of the War
Audience:
My audience is fans of the progressive rock genre, who vary in age due to the genre’s broad
definition. They are approximately 30-50 years old, and can be of any gender. To make sure my
project will appear to this demographic, I will ensure that conventions used in popular songs in the
genre will be included in my video whilst also referencing back to some famous ones. Furthermore,
I will include short segments of a band playing the song as a call-back to the earliest of Prog Rock
videos.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout the year I have learned how to use Adobe Premiere, which will allow me to edit the
video together so that the cuts sync up with the trumpets of the song. Furthermore, when filming
an advertisement for my Irn-Bru project, I was able to expereriment with different shots and angles.
These techniques could be used in my music video and if not will have taught me how to be
creative with the camera. Furthermore, the advertisement gave me an idea as to what would be
realistically possible to create, allowing me to come up with an idea that isn’t out of reach.

Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The video features a person running away from an unknown entity. As the video progresses, we
see the person become increasingly more panicked, with the video’s pace increasing in line with
the music’s rising tempo. Towards the end, the tension lessens as a jovial twist on a typical horror
cliché is shown. The cuts of the video sync-up with the trumpets of the song, with shot length
varying depending on how long the trumpets play for. On top of the story, short cuts to a band
playing the song give a sense of them narrating the story as it occurs.
In order to create this idea, I needed to research other music videos from the Progressive Rock
genre in order to see what conventions there were. Furthermore, I conducted research into the
Target audience of the genre as well as professional critics to see what aspects of Prog Rock were
received positively or negatively.
I also researched horror films to see how they filmed and choreographed their scenes. This also
allowed me to look over the possible clichés I could parody. On top of these clichés, I can also
parody some of the earliest music videos of the genre as a way of calling back to them. For this, I
made sure to research some of the earliest music videos, which mainly entailed bands playing the
song.
Production Techniques (approx. 150 words)
My bulk of my video doesn’t require any specialist techniques, as the main focus is on the cuts and
shot lengths. However, I do plan on adding in some sound effects in post production. This can be
done simply via adobe premiere.
As for specialist equipment, I plan to use a morph suit for when the alien is revealed. I haven’t
decided yet if I want to edit anything over it or just leave it as it is, as this would add to the jovial
nature of the video whilst also supporting the idea of having unorthodox imagery. If I was to edit
something onto the suit, I would have to use suitable software to do so before I add the clips into
Adobe Premiere.

Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
To evaluate my work, I plan to compare it to the videos that influenced it to see how I have utilised
the conventions of the genre. I will make sure to evaluate my work as I am doing it, as this will
allow me to discuss how my idea changed throughout the creation of the video and why.
