1. Mind Map
Magazine
Ideas
Name ideas:
EDM Recordbox, Technews, Melbourne UK,
Hardcore, Trapperz or lastly, Underground EDM
Colour scheme(s):
Blue and green, red and grey, orange and blue
or just a dark background for example, black. I
could also use a dark grey and white, Black
and red, blue and white or lastly white and
green.
Target Audience:
The target audience for my magazine is going to
primarily be males and some females, from ages 16-
35 (Hartley). This is because the magazine will
contain music that is played in nightclubs and these
sorts of clubs are only visited by young adults.
Images needed:
pictures of DJ stars e.g. Martin
Garrix and Tiesto and Festival
pictures to attract EDM fans.
Strapline Language:
The strapline language has to be simple but
effective, so that it attracts readers, when
they see the magazine on the shelves in
stores. I may use- Think Bigger, EDM = Life,
Drop The Base, We Run The Show or We
Think- You Party.
Magazines of Influence and
WHY:
Mixmag influenced my magazine ideas because it
zooms in on the same genre of Electronic music and
gives information on Dj stars and electronic music in
general, which makes it appealing. Also it uses
bright colours to make it aesthetically pleasing
which is what I plan to do to make my magazine
more appealing to my target audience.
‘Star Appeal’ (Richard Dyer):
The main image has to be a medium close-up of a successful
star who is very popular within the genre of music. This is
important because it will create star appeal (Richard Dyer) and
will attract the fans of this certain star, to buy the magazine. The
main star, will also have something to do with the main story of
the magazine. I will make my image stand out by using a bright
picture against the dark background of my front cover. I will also
make sure my star wears appealing clothes such as expensive
trainers and popular brands of clothing.

What I will repeat-Steve Neale (1980):
For my own magazine, I will repeat the use of a barcode to make it
look more professional. This barcode will also inform the reader what
issue of the magazine it is. I will also include social media logo’s and
links to help use multiple social media platforms to attract more
potential buyers. Lastly, I will be sure to include my magazines logo on
each page, to make each page look artistic sand completely
professional. This is because if I simple use text on each page without
pictures, my magazine wont look appealing. I will also be sure to use
page numbers etc. as little details can greatly improve the appearance
of a magazine.
