1. Audience Profile – Genre: Electronic
Gender and Age (Hartley’s 7 Subjectivities) and why
According to Hartley’s 7 subjectivities, the target audience will primarily
be males and some females from ages 16-35. This is because the
magazine will contain information about electronic music which
contains explicit words, therefore this may be unsuitable for children
and offensive for the elderly. The performer in the main image on the
cover usually wears a designer top and Top man jeans with trainers
Socio-Economic Needs and why:
According to the socio-economic needs, this music will be suitable for
category’s C2,D and E because electronic dance music is more appealing
for young adults and teens, as they go to nightclubs more than upper
class bankers and lawyers etc. As well as this, the music advertised may
contain explicit words, which the elderly may find offensive. Therefore, I
will have to make my magazine specifically appealing to only people of
the social-economic classes of C2,D and E.
Katz’ Uses & Gratifications Theory and Maslow’s
Hierarchy of needs
Katz’ Uses and Gratifications theory and Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs
connotes the target audience will able to Personally Identify and
Immerse themselves within the writing within the magazine. My
magazine will be appropriate for people of any ethnicity and suitable for
people who are from any nation. Furthermore, my magazine will be
appealing to mostly men, but also some women who enjoy listening to
electronic music. The age of the reader of my magazine will have to be
15 or over, as the artists who may have interviews contained in the
magazine, create songs which contain explicit language.
Stereotype(s):
The stereotype for a Dj is for him/her to be wearing jeans, designer
trainers and usually a designer t-shirt. Also, some of them wear their
own branded clothes to help advertise themselves. Furthermore, the
expensive clothe that my model will be wearing will portray their wealth
and this will be key, if I want to make them look like a successful
producer or celebrity.
