Sony’s Playstation Vita was a smashing success in Japan and
some parts of Europe but failed to capture the North American
market. Sony’s issue (which is not a new problem) is that they design a
product that works within their society without having the experience of
understanding how other societies would approach their design. Public transportation in the U.S. is
not a primary mode of transportation; thus, handheld consoles are generally bought by children.
Sony’s marketing and the cost of memory for the Vita seemed to capture techies and adult gamers,
but not children. The device could have still been viable with a more focused, persistent marketing
strategy. by 500% in just one month. Customers often referenced my video as the reason they
decided to shop at the retail store.
