– Its how many printed copies of a product that’s been distributed around.
• Hits
– How many times a certain product has been viewed or listened to in a certain
amount of time.
• Box Office Figures
– It is how much money a film has made whilst in the cinemas.
• Ratings
– Its when a critic has rated something out of 5 stars or 100%
• Sales
– How much a product has been sold
3. Primary Research
• Definition
– Its when you research a topic yourself.
• Advantages
– You create your own research which will help you with your own work.
• Disadvantages
– It may take you a longer time to get your own research. With this you have
to gather all the results you get and present them in your work.
• Example
– Interviews – it’s a discussion between two people. One whom askes the
questions and the other answers them
4. Secondary Research
• Definition
– Using all ready existing research for your work will help improve it because you can get more
evidences to back up your own work.
• Advantages
– The research has been done for you so you don’t have to do much of the work.
• Disadvantages
– It may not be quit right for what your looking for.
– It may also be hard to find.
• Example
– Internet research may me helpful because you may have access to it and it has everything you
need to help you in your research, but some sites may not have reliable information which is
where you own research comes in handy
5. Quantitative Research
• Definition
– Definition is expressed or expressible as a quantity. Research which you can
quantify/measure and put into percentages, fractions and numbers. closed

• Advantages
– Good to asked own questions that will be helpful because it will help with research
• Disadvantages
– Might find it hard or limited on the questions you can find/have
• Example
– Do you like college? Yes, no this is what you could ask if you were looking for
research for college
6. Qualitative Research
• Definition
– Its research that goes in-depth finding out different opinions/reasons. It makes the
person have to reflect and expand on their answer to the question.
• Advantages
– It’ll help you pin point were you put your products
– An open question will requires the interviewee to expand on their answers in more
than a few words so that will make your work easer
• Disadvantages
– It will be hard to locate the information you need
• Example
– Reviews, responses, discussions
7. Audience Research
• Definition
• Finding out who consumes the product through research
• Advantages
– It’s a primary source and your research can always be validated
• Disadvantages
– It may not reflect society and not be equal.
• Example
– Interviews and social media
8. Market Research
• Definition
– Finding out about the market place where a product is sold
• Advantages
– Dos and don’ts of what to expect
• Disadvantages
– So wide, large topics, limited resources.
• Example
– Gaming, film and cinema
9. Production Research
• Definition
– Finding information and resources required to produce a piece of
media
• Advantages
– Production stages and kit needed through research. Well prepared.
• Disadvantages
– No access, need specialist
• Example
– Making a film

• Objective
– Something that needs to be done, like a task.
• Subjective
– Research that has been influenced by personal opinions
• Valid
– Valid means a good reason so that means that you need a valid
reason on why you chose certain research.
• Reliable
– Research that produces accurate and consistent results
