The document discusses various types of research used in research projects including primary research, secondary research, quantitative research, qualitative research, audience research, market research, and production research. It provides definitions and examples of each type of research as well as advantages and disadvantages. Key terms are also defined, such as circulation, hits, box office figures, ratings, sales, objective, subjective, valid, and reliable. Harvard referencing style is briefly explained at the end.
2. Terminology
• Circulation
– The amount of distributed copies of print products
• Hits
– The number of files downloaded on the site i.e. pictures or
hyperlink buttons
• Box Office Figures

gather your results and then present them
– Finding the right people to ask can sometimes be a challenge
• Example
– Surveys, interviews, and observations

– There can be a wide range of resources available
• Disadvantages
– The research may not be quite what you were looking for
– The research might not always be easy to find
– You have to rely on how well others have researched
• Example
– Research subject or experiments
5. Quantitative Research
• Definition
• It emphasizes object measurements and statistical data collected
through polls or questionnaires
• Advantages
– Easy to analyse and to collect.
– easy to distribute in areas like the internet
• Disadvantages
– collect a much narrower and sometimes superficial dataset
– results are limited as they provide numerical descriptions rather
than detailed narrative and generally provide less elaborate
accounts of human perception
• Example
• The generations of models, theories. The development of
instruments and methods for measurement
6. Qualitative Research
• Definition
• exploratory research and it is used to gain an understanding
of underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations
