The RihannaCD Digipackdisplaysthe conventionsof astereotypical pop/RnBartist. There isalack
of clothingbecause inthe industry,beingattractive sellsandonthe back of the CD she is inher
underwearwithaskirt. Rihannaisheavily
made up,especiallywitheyemakeupand
herred lipstickstandsoutwhichaddsto
the stereotypical conventionsof the female
genderinthe pop/RnBindustry.The front
coverof the Digipackisa close up of
Rihannaand there isnodirectaddressto
the audience. Herbodylanguage whenshe
islay downinwhat seemstobe a wedding
dressisquite provocative eventhoughshe

quite provocative. Onthe back of the digipackitlookslike the artistisona stage because of the
curtainsand the stool,itsuggeststhatmusicmeansso much to her.The stage could representher
professionandbecause she isthe onlyone inthe shots,itsuggeststhatshe isan independentartist.
The American flagispresentinthe backgroundwhichconnotesthatshe isproud of where she
comesfrom;it alsotellsthe audience thatshe isa patrioticAmericanartist.
A narrative enigmaissuggestedbecause onthe frontcover,there isnodirectaddressto the
audience whichconnotesthatshe maybe heartbrokenanddown,howeverthe backof the digipack
showsherto be wearingnotmuch whichcan suggestthat she isnow a changedperson.The colour
redis a recurringtheme throughoutthe
digipack;the colourredis associated
withenergy,war,danger,strength,
power,determinationaswellaspassion,
desire andlove.Thismaybe the theme
of the albumwhichiswhythe colourred
isabundantthroughoutthe digipack.
The digipackismostlylowkeylighting
especiallyonthe backof the album.It
may be that she wantedtocreate a
mysteriousambiance particularlywhen
she islookingoverhershoulder.The
onlylightingseemstobe natural lighting
froma windowora door andthenthe
restof the room isdark; it could be a reflectiononhow she isfeelinginside eventhoughitseems
like she isan independentwoman.
