Where did it originate from?
• reggae, style of popular music that
originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s
and quickly emerged as the country's
dominant music.
• By the 1970s it had become an
international style that was particularly
popular in Britain, the United States, and
Africa.
What is Reggae?
• Reggae is a style of popular music with a
strongly accented beat
• Reggae evolved in the late 1960s from
ska and other local variations on calypso
and rhythm and blues, and became widely
known in the 1970s through the work of
Bob Marley; its lyrics are much influenced
by Rastafarian ideas.
What is the Rastafarian?
• Rastafarians believe the Messiah is Haile
Selassie (hay´ -lee s« -lah´ -see),
• the last emperor of Ethiopia. As emperor, Selassie
was actually called "Ras Tafari.”
• One of the outgrowths of Rastafarianism is its
heavy influence in Reggae music, which was
made popular and gained worldwide recognition
throughout
• Bob Marley. According to 1995 statistics,
Rastafarianism had some 180,000
adherents(people who follow) worldwide .
Ska is a music genre that
originated in Jamaica in the late
1950s, and was the precursor
to rocksteady and reggae.

• It has made the biggest impact musically
than any other genre in the world. I believe
it's because of it's tempo and relaxing vibe
that has a tendency to make people happy.

BOB MARLEY
• Robert Nesta "Bob" Marley was a
Jamaican reggae singer-songwriter,
musician, and guitarist who achieved
international fame and acclaim.
• Most popular song is Buffalo soldier
PETER TOSH
• Peter Tosh, was a Jamaican reggae
musician. Along with Bob Marley and
Bunny Wailer he was one of the core
members of the band The Wailers. After
which he established himself as a
successful solo artist and a promoter of
Rastafari.
• Most popular song is Buffalo soldier
BEENIE MAN
• Anthony Moses Davis, better known by his
stage name Beenie Man, is a Grammy
award-winning Jamaican reggae artist. He
is referred to as the world's "King of
Dancehall”
• Most popular song is king of the dancehall
BOUNTY KILLER
• born Rodney Basil Price; 12 June 1972;
Kingston, Jamaica
• He is a dancehall deejay.
• founder of a dancehall clllective known
as The Alliance with deejay Mavado.
JIMMY CLIFF
• Jimmy Cliff, OM is a Jamaican reggae
musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer and
actor. He is the only living musician to hold
the Order of Merit, the highest honour that
can be granted by the Jamaican
• he is the one who sang hakuna matata
• Most popular song is hakuna matata
