2. 1. What is it meant by the term film distribution?
The term film distribution defined is the process of creating a film
that is available for the audience to view. The film is supported by
commercial projects, entertainment or factual purposes that are
integrated by film promotion.
Distribution examples are aspects like sharing films among the
different variety of the audience and specially focusing on them using
sub-genres and choosing a main film genre. It can include cinema
and rental copies of the film to be distributed for the audience to
view.
3. 2. What does a film distributor do?
The Film Distributors role is within the immense competitive
business. As they are producing and marketing the films they
fight for a spot so they can get noticed and in order for a film
to become successful and a blockbuster it must be seen and
noticed by the audience, For the distributors this is a challenge
to identify the target audience and why their film includes their
interests so they will go out and pay for the film. They aim to
convert as much interest as possible to sell out and receive as
many cinema visits, to develop their partnerships to build
awareness of the film to create as much revenue as possible.
4. 3. How does a reach relate to film distribution?
Reaches of a film refer to the target audience and advertising,
during stages a product must include and expose to the direct
audience to gain interest in their campaign. This is influenced
by the gender, age, platform and interests of the public. The
larger reach of the film the better the Box Office should do as
more people would be aware of it and will be more enticed to
watched it. Basing on the trailers and posters they have been
exposed up to the first viewing of the film.
5. 4. What is meant by the distribution plan?
Distribution plan is the way UK Distributors focuses on the optimum release and launch of the a
film, to make a movie become more successful. The plan consists of granting the rights in order
to produce a particular story or book they are transferring into a successful movie, the script and
screenplay is written up as close to the novel as possible but will consider other acts to include
which were not included, considering screenplay, scripts, casts, crew, film and production before
the filming takes place, this is the pre-production. Filming and Editing then takes place which will
include photographers to produce posters and pictures to release to the public as a teaser view.
This then gets the audience to a ‘buzz’ for the post production to be confirmed for creating and
editing this film, this is when the distributors will consider release dates and trailers to display for
the action and scenes of what the audience are paying to see. Once the film is finished it will
then be exhibited by film critics and a more private audience that will considered to be
persuaded to market the film in cinema’s and get boarding's for screen times. This then is finally
presented to the general public and the film stays within the cinema for a certain amount of
weeks particularly to depend on how many of the public view it and how well the movie has
become, whether it was a big hit or it wasn’t as successful as it didn’t portray the original novel.
6. 5. What is meant by the marketing plan?
Marketing Plan devises the specific target audience and how the film will be promoted to its audience and
to the general public, factors such as Posters, Trailers and Online Devices are the main sources of marketing
selling a movie out through its advertisement in a diversity on resources. A Poster is printed text which are
put on billboards, commercial spaces , magazines and transport links such as on the side of buses or on the
way to the underground of a train. For a poster method to be applicable it requires large attention from the
audience, it must be seen where peoples attention can be just glimpsed at to then be previewed later in
more detail, Posters shouldn’t stop people from doing anything but rather it should just be caught to catch
the public’s eye. Trailers are commercially advertised from adverts on YouTube, TV or a TV show previewing
the trailer. This can also be seen on a interactive board that roles out video’s on screen, any sort of electronic
transport or mobile device using the use of browsers or social media is the best advertisements as people
can take time or save to watch the trailer later as an indication that it has some sort of accessible feed to
come back to. Technological Devices features exclusive interactive media choices such as trailers, video clips,
sneak peak photos and behind the scenes to build up the momentum of a upcoming film, further additions
like reviews, first screenings and pre-orders aim to attract a wider audience as it gives them more
information about if a film is worth watching.
7. 6. What is the difference between advertising, publicity and promotion?
Advertisement, Publicity and Promotion are all unique methods of distributing a new product or
film, it encourages the audience to gain interest to this new feature whilst it is still in production,
to ensure when it hits the box office it will become successful. Advertising is for the company to
distribute their product in a variety of ways, whether this will be magazines, posters, trailers, or
social media it is a source of form where people can see that it is been publically announced.
Publicity is a more controversial method, specifically to gain the audiences or general public’s
attention towards to release of a film. For example, interviews with the actors that leak “Small
Details” and setting up Premiers allowing celebrities and the public to view on social media to
gain their interests getting feedback and positive reviews to encourage people to go see the film.
Finally promotion is to create awareness to raise the films morality, this can be seen through
merchandise of a film, items such as t-shirts, mugs, blankets, accessories can be seen to promote
a film supporting its extra box office income it already receives. This helps the encouragement of
an audience to participate whilst watching the film or even fandom about the film when they
come to view the screening.
