Evaluation Question 3
1. What kind of media
institution might
distribute your media
product and why?
2. If we were given the chance to actually create a whole thriller
film out of our opening sequence, we would only have a few
production companies interested in distributing our film. This
is because our media product is an independent film,
meaning only British independent film companies such as
Momentum, Independent Film Company, Warp Films and
Vertigo Films, will want to distribute our film.
3. Our product wouldn't attract interest from big production
companies because it is an independent British film with an
unknown cast and unknown directors. We also used very
basic equipment and props and local locations as we only
have a small budget, and production companies such as
Universal or 20th
Century Fox, would want films that have
used special effects, famous cast and interesting locations.
All this can only be achieved by having a big budget.
On the other hand, independent film companies distribute
films with low budgets all the time and give unknown
directors a chance for their films to be viewed by a mass
audience.
4. Independent film companies would use below the line
marketing to distribute their films. For example through the
use of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook,
trailers posted online onto their own
websites/YouTube/IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes and even by
creating online posters. This way, you are also able to
advertise your film to the target audience, meaning you will
have viewers interested in you film, rather than trying to
attract the wrong audience, who wouldn't have any interest in
the film.
5. This is how we would try to get a company, such as Warp
Films, interested in our film. We would have to start by
proving to the company that there is an audience for our film,
and that people are interested in it, by advertising straight to
our target audience, gaining as much interest as possible.
By attracting the interest of an independent film company, we
would be able to get financial help with the production,
distribution and exhibition of our film.
