Media AS - Evaluation

1. QUESTION 6:
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS
OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?

2. Camera
To film both my prelim and my main film, I used a Canon EOS
500d Digital SLR camera. I decided to use this camera because
it has the ability to shoot in full HD (1080p) which means good
quality footage.
Also, it has a high ISO (up to 12800) which was really
beneficial for the scene I shot in the dark of ‘The Friend’ and
‘Character A’ dancing. When shooting my prelim, I didn't take
full advantage of things such as the camera’s high ISO and I’m
really glad I did for my main film because it meant that I was
able to get a wider variety of shots.
When I filmed my prelim, I was very new to using a camera and had never properly
filmed anything. Therefore, some of the footage in my prelim is out of focus or not
framed properly.
Since then, I have been using cameras much more often and I’ve become more
accustomed to the proper ways to use them. I have learnt about how to set the camera
to the correct aperture and shutter speed which has been really beneficial to my film
making. Because of this, in my main film, I was able to focus the camera to produce
footage that was always in focus.

3. Premiere Pro CS5
I used Premiere Pro CS5 to edit both my prelim and my main films
on. Premiere is a reasonably straightforward programme to use so it
was perfect for me, as a beginner. It allows manipulation of audio
and video within the film and provides effects which I used during
the sped up section of my main film.
As well as being new to camera use, when I started my prelim, I had
never edited before. Although my prelim consisted of simple
transitions and audio, I have become much more confident with
using the programme. I feel as though my editing skills have
improved and were much better in my main film.

allowed me to fade my
music in and out e.g.
when the voiceover
starts in my film, I
faded the music out.

line to run throughout

film, I added visual

4. Slide Share
Slide Share is a website that I’d never heard of
before I started doing my prelim task. I have
used it throughout each stage of my film
making process (prelim, pre production,
production and evaluation). I uploaded my files
to the website (much like my ‘Equipment’
presentation as show below) and then used the
‘embed code’ to upload them onto my blog.
Because I have used it so much throughout my
film making process, I have become quite
accustomed to it and now find it really easy to
use. It’s an effective method of being able to
upload files to Blogger in a specific format
which has been really beneficial to the overall
look of my blog.

5. Blogger
Just like with Slide Share, I had also never heard of
Blogger until I started my Prelim task. It’s quite
straightforward to use so I have gotten used to it quite
quickly. I have used it to upload absolutely everything in
my film making process including all of my prelim task,
pre production work, production work and evaluation
work. I have updated it regularly since beginning my
prelim in September.
Also, once I became more accustomed to it, I managed to
change the overall style of my blog on order to make it
look a bit more professional and sleek looking, so now it
looks like this.

6. Prezi
I used Prezi to answer Question 1 of my
evaluation. It allowed me to present my answer
to the question in a much more interactive way
than, for example, a simple essay.
After a lot of exploration of ways to use Prezi, I
found out how to import video clips into it.
Because of this, I was able to import actual
footage from my final film and analyse it in a
really interactive way due to Prezi. For example,
I was able to physically compare my use of
flashing images to the use of flashing images in
real life media products as shown in the
screenshot below.

7. Powtoon and Animaker
I used Powtoon for Question 2 of my evaluation. It
allowed me to animate my ideas in a really
interesting way. It also had an audio platform so I
was able to add background music to it which made
my ideas really come to life.
For Question 3, I decided to make a stop
image animation. Animaker allowed me
to put all of my pictures together to
background music and upload the
finished product to YouTube. This
technology allowed me to be really
creative with my response to this
question which I really enjoyed.

8. YouTube and Facebook
I uploaded both my prelim task and my final
film to YouTube. YouTube is an interactive
website so I was able to receive feedback
through this which helped with Questions 4
and 5 of my evaluation.
I also uploaded the YouTube link to
my video onto Facebook. Through
this, I was able to receive more
feedback such as this which helped
with Questions 4 and 5 of my
evaluation as well as helping me to
make improvements to my film.

9. Overall….
Overall, I feel as though I have learned a lot about
many different technologies throughout my film
making process. Just from making my prelim to
making my main film, my knowledge and
understanding of technologies has grown so much.
