Marketing
1. Attack the Block
Marketing a product refers to the way the clients or targeted audience that will consume the
product available to them but also keep a customer base where the brand ambassadors will be
established that can also help promote the product through WOM (word of mouth)
About £8,000,000 was put into the film including paying the cast and into the marketing.
The official trailer reached 3,366,333 views but also
mentions that it was produced by the producers of Scott Pilgrim vs the World and Shaun of the Dead
which are established movies that has had a success. A website been created to
www.attacktheblock.com which attracts loyal fans (brand ambassadors). Because the film is a
FilmFour film, it’s available to be played on the channel FilmFour without cost which could also
boost their tv ratings. They used posters to help promote the film and on the channel FilmFour
before a 9pm film, they had interviews from the cast of the film with snippets of what you would see
in the film as people would be watching it waiting for the film on tv they’ve been waiting for.
2.
3. Marvels Avengers
$100,000,000 was put into the global marketing of the film which has helped the film earn
$207,438,708 in its opening weekend, setting the record and a worldwide of $1,511,757,910, 3rd
highest grossing film of all time. The Avengers has already been marketed before the film. Before the
film, movies of The Hulk, Iron Man, Thor and Captain America were released and seen success in the
box office till they added all 4 main characters in one movie to create a record, smashing the box
office charts in the opening weekend. Comics of The Avengers have been produced which, as Marvel
was known for its comics, has a lot of brand ambassadors. A cartoon series Marvels Avengers
Assemble was also made before the film. As marvel is already an established franchise for
superheroes by producer Stan Lee, The Avengers doesn’t have its own website but goes under
www.marvel.com/avengers_movie. The film were produced and distributed by major studios,
Marvel Entertainment (producers) and Walt Disney Motion Pictures (distributors) so funding the film
wasn’t going to be a problem as both studios are valued at over 4 billion. As the film has had a
major success in the cinemas, this has attracted the likes of Sky to purchase the film for its Sky Movie
channel and also place it into their online film website Now TV. More money was put into Marvels
Avengers than Attack the block by a long shot however Avengers had a better chance of being
successful as many people already knew the cartoon series unlike Attack the Block which doesn’t
already have a comic and brand ambassadors but t-shirts, online trailers, social networking websites
and a website to promote the film. Whereas Avengers came out on blu-ray 3D, comics, 4 successful
films, cartoon series, posters, website, social networking sites, tv trailers, online trailers, lunch boxes,
clothes, toys, costumes, theme apps and books.
