Lesson 3 what is a rock (a rock is lively)
1. What is a Rock?
Lesson 3 - A Rock is Lively
In this lesson, students will review the research process (presearch, research).
Students will also discuss the importance of using more than one nonfiction
resource to answer a research question. Students will examine the book, A Rock
is Lively by Dianna Hutts Aston before reading and make a prediction if this
resource is appropriate for research and answering the research question: What
is a Rock? Students will review the importance of note taking to remember what
is learned from a resource. After listening to the book, A Rock is Lively, students
will take one of the “notes” I created from the book and create two new pages in
Book Creator. Students will type the fact on the cover page of a new landscape
book in Book Creator and then go to Britannica Image Quest and search for
images related to the “note” they chose. Students will copy the images in
Britannica Image Quest and then paste the images to page 2 in Book Creator.
After students complete both pages, they will see me to review how to airdrop the
pages to my Ipad, so I can create a class book about what we learned about
rocks and minerals from the resource A Rock is Lively.
26. When you are using a
resource, you take notes
so you can remember
what you learned and use
it for the create phase of
the research process.
27. I have read the book and
already have taken
notes about what I
learned about rocks and
minerals from this
resource so....
During the book, you can listen and learn and not
worry about recording all the facts you learn.
30. Digital Citizenship
A good digital citizen is someone who is safe, responsible
and respectful when they use digital tools.
31. We will be making a
class book about the
facts we learned from
Brainpop. You will
create two pages. One
page has the fact and
the other page has
images that support
the fact.
39. After you complete
your two pages,
sign your name on
this sheet . I’ll
show you how to
airdrop your pages
to my IPad.
I will then put the pages together to make a class book.
