Lesson 5 understanding weather through time (the man who named the clouds)
1. Understanding Weather Through Time
Lesson 5: The Man Who Named the Clouds
In this lesson, students review the legend Rainbow Crow, Young Zeus,
Bonnie Bess the Weathervane Horse, How Ben Stole the Lightning, and
then travel back in time to 1772 to the United Kingdom. Students learn how
you can look up a keyword in Destiny Discover to search for a topic you
want to learn more about. I tell students I want to learn more about clouds.
We search Destiny Discover using the keyword cloud and then find the call
number for the book The Man Who Named the Clouds by Julie Hannah and
Joan Holub. I only read selected sections of this book and pair the reading
with slides to help students better understand the topic. I also paraphase
much of the information in this book. After we finish, students access their
digital book in Book Creator and identify the title, author, and illustrator on
the title page. Students also add photos to their Book Creator book from
the recently added folder in Book Creator. Students choose the pictures
related to The Man Who Named the Clouds that they want to add to their
digital book.
