1. What is a Rock?
Lesson 4 - (Encyclopedia Britannica)
In this lesson, students will review the research process (presearch,
research). Students will also discuss the importance of using more
than one nonfiction resource to answer a research question.
Students will learn how encyclopedias are a resource used for
research. For the first time, directions for today’s activity will be on
Seesaw. Students can refer to the directions to help them navigate
the multiple steps in today’s lesson. Students will learn how to
access Encyclopedia Britannica, search the Elementary site for an
article about a rock or a mineral, select an article, and then listen to
the article being read to them. After reading a relevant article in
Encyclopedia Britannica, students will tap the add button under
today’s activity and record a fact they learned about a rock or mineral
from Encyclopedia Britannica.
8. Step 1: Presearch
Think about or determine a
research question.
Think about what you already
know about the topic.
What is a rock? What is a mineral?
