4. DOUGLAS COLLEGE
Address: 700 Royal Avenue New Westminster
Service Sector: Public
This is a public service sector as it is funded by
the government and the publics tax money
help fund resources and tuition.
Education is service that benefits society and
there for the government funds education
programs like Douglas College

5. SPSC CONNECTION
• Coaching: Douglas College has a coaching
connection as the the school has Varsity sports teams
such as Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Volleyball, and
baseball where NCCP trained coaches are hired to
coach these teams.
• Education: The Education aspect at Douglas College
is that it is an education institution where people go
to school to earn degrees or other certification past
the secondary school level.
• Recreation: The recreation aspect of Douglas College
is the recreational activities they offer such as
Intermural sports, yoga, Library, Fitness Classes and
accesses to the Fitness Centre for all students.

6. QUEENS PARK
Address: 3rd Ave, New Westminster
Service Sector: Public Service
This is a Public service Sector as it is funded
by the government and tax payer dollars
Exercise is a value that society appreciates
and is therefor funded by the government.
Admission fees for facilities go towards the
up keep of facilities and not to a single
wealthy beneficiary (Queens Park Playground, New Westminster,
2019)

7. SPSC CONNECTION
• Recreation: Queens park has a recreation connection as
recreation is described as done in free time in a place away
from our constraints of work and everyday life (Lunn, 2021).
Queens park is an area of nature where people can come to
forgot about everyday life and engage in activities such as
reading, playing, tennis, baseball, hockey, or lacrosse.
• Coaching: The coaching connection at queens park is the
venues it has such as baseball fields, hockey and lacrosse
arenas and a soccer pitch. These venues are home to sports
organizations with NCCP Certified coaches such as New
Westminster Little League, New Westminster Minor Hockey
Association, New Westminster Lacrosse Association and New
Westminster Soccer Club. (Queens Park Picnic area, New Westminster,
2019)

8. NEW WESTMINSTER PUBLIC LIBRARY
Address: 716 6th Ave, New Westminster
Service Sector: Public
This is a Public service as it is funded by the government and
available to the public. The government funding a library is a
way of providing opportunity for self education to everyone
because of no monetary restrictions. Education is a societal
value that the government is upholding by making it
accessible to the public.

9. SPSC CONNECTION
• Recreation: The library is a place of
recreation as it is place many people go to
relax and help better there knowledge.
Reading can be a very relaxing activity and
the quite environment is a place many go to
study and help enhance their ideal self
image (Lunn, 2021)
• Education: A library is a place a were people
go to self educate themselves through
books and also educate themselves through
tutoring or private academic support
(New Westminster Library, 2020)

10. CENTENNIAL COMMUNITY CENTER
Address: 65 E Sixth Ave, New Westminster
Service Sector: Public
This is public sector as it is funded by the
government and the fees users pay go into
the upkeep and maintenance of the facility.
Another reason this is a public service is
that anyone can access it and the low user
fee makes it accessible to people in tough
financial situations

11. SPSC CONNECTION
• Recreation: Centennial Community
Centre has a recreation component
as it is place people can go to take
exercise classes, workout in the
fitness facility or play recreational
games of basketball, indoor soccer or
badminton. There is no coaching
connecting here as the fitness
coaching done here falls under the
BCRCAP umbrella and not the NCCP. (Sandy Earl, Dave Creighton, and Lisa Williamson Participating in a

13. FUTBOL 5
Address: 109 Braid St, New Westminster
Service Sector: Private
This is a private service as people and clubs
are paying for the service of indoor soccer.
All of money goes directly to the owner of
the facility and this a business that is ran to
make a profit

14. SPSC CONNECTION
• Coaching: Futbol 5 has a coaching connection as it
hosts sports organizations such as N.W.LL, and
N.W.S.C and K.L.M.F.C who have NCCP Trained
coaches. This facility provides the coaches an
opportunity to work with there athletes and work on
physical literacy, Techniques and Tactics (Lunn, 2021).
There could be an argument made here for recreation
however I left it out as my research found with the
exception of N.W.LL and N.W.S.C it was often high
performance programs or competitive men's leagues
that use the facility and the facility itself does not
offer any recreational activities just competitive
leagues and facility rentals

15. ANYTIME FITNESS
Address: 610 6th St #199, New
Westminster
Service Sector: Private
This is a private service as it is a profit
oriented business that provides services for
people seeking fitness.
Owned by a international corporation worth
over 1.4 Billion Dollars this company
provides services to people however with
goal of making a profit (Wikipedia, 2022)

16. SPSC CONNECTION
• Recreation: Anytime fitness is a place of
recreation as it is place people come in
their free time to engage in fitness and
health practices. People go the gym to
better there mental health, bodies and
over all well being (Lunn, 2021).
Coaching does happen at these gyms
but it does not apply here as those
coaches are BCRCAP certified and we
are only concerned with NCCP certified
coaches. (Anytime Fitness, New Westminster, 2021)

17. URBAN ACADEMY
Address: 466 Rousseau St, New
Westminster
Service Sector: Private
This is a private service sector as students
pay an expensive tuition to cover all the
costs of the school and provide them a
profit
This school is funded privately and has no
funding from the government
(Urban Academy, New Westminster, 2021)

18. SPSC CONNECTION
• Education: Urban Academy is an educational
institution that teaches the students the
curriculum and has lots of programs that
give students hands on experience to their
studies via field trips.
• Recreation is something that is in Urban
Academy's curriculum. The curriculum has
outdoor pursuits and non competitive
sports games in it which fall under the
Recreational Umbrella.
• The reason there is no coaching here is
because when I did my research I found
they had no competitive sports teams and
no NCCP trained coaches.

19. PLANET LAZER TAG

Westminster
Public Sector: Private
This is private service as the public has to
pay for the cost of the service and the
company makes a profit off of the service.
This fits under the category of a recreation
business

20. SPSC CONNECTION
• Recreation: This fits under the
recreational category but specifically
play.
• The nature of lazer tag makes for
user imagination and an out of reality
experience (Lunn, 2021).
• Players take themselves to a world
where they are in an intense gunfight
with each other and not just shooting
lazers at each other in a dark room.

22. SALVATION ARMY

Service Sector: Non-Profit
This is a non-profit organization as the
salvation army does not keep any of its funds
for profit or use them to add value to their
company.
They simply take the money they make and
invest back into the community of the less
fortunate providing them with food, clothing,
shelter and other basic human needs.

23. SPSC CONNECTION
• Recreation: The Salvation Army Thrift
Stores are a recreational place as
shopping is a recreational activity
and they are store that sells all kinds
of used good at affordable prices
• Shopping can be relaxing activity for
some and give them a reason to get
out of the house and do an activity
which is the essence of recreation (Salvation Army, New Westminster, 2019)

24. NEW WESTMINSTER LITTLE LEAGUE
Address: 720 6th St, New Westminster
Service Sector: Non-Profit
This is a non-profit organization as all of the
players fees and money raised goes into
funding the program and no one makes a
profit or financially benefits inside the
organization.

25. SPSC CONNECTION
• Coaching: N.W.LL has a coaching connections
as all the teams within the organization have
NCCP trained coaches. Not only does the
program help players develop it also gives
coaches an opportunity to develop and gain
experience by using players fees to fund
workshops and classes for coaches which in
turn creates a better service for the players.
• Recreation: N.W.L.L also falls into the
recreation category as it is often played for fun
at the younger levels and there are non
competitive leagues that only have the goal of
getting players on the field. And having fun.

26. NEW WESTMINSTER SOCCER CLUB

Service Sector: Non-Profit
This is a non-profit organization as all
of the players fees go towards funding
the program. There is no profit and the
only reason for fees is to subsidize the
expenses and fund the program

27. SPSC CONNECTION
• Coaching: N.W.S.C has many teams and all
those team haves NCCP trained coaches. These
coaches are essential to the success of the
programs and the develop of children helping
them become physically literate and teaching
them life lessons.
• Recreation: N.W.S.C has a recreational
component to it as just like N.W.L.L the
younger levels are not competitive and are
played based on the values of fun and
experience which match the category of
recreation.
