• What makes it a public sector?
It is a public sector because of its openness to
allow individuals to freely attend,providing
opportunities which are "deemed valuable by
society" (Lunn,2021,p. 3)
• Connection to 2210:Recreation
This park demonstrates recreation as it provides
opportunities for anyone in the community making it cohesive
and enhancing its quality (Lunn,2021).Recreation is seen as a
"fundamental human need for persons of all ages and is
essential to a person's physical and social well-being and to
overall quality of life" (Lunn,2021,p.5).Which perfectly
describes this park as it allows creativity and promotes fitness
to all citizens.
4. LORDTWEEDSMUIR SECONDARY SCHOOL

• What makes it a public sector?
This school provides "Fitness, sport, age-related
programs, events, arts, leadership, etc." (Lunn,2021,
p. 3).Allowing access from all the public and gives
opportunities for "recreation to disadvantaged
clients: the poor, persons with physical or mental
disabilities, etc." (Lunn,2021,p. 3).Kids within the
ages of 13-18 attend Lord Tweedsmuir without being
charged.
Connection to 2210:Physical education
P.E is a required course in this high school until
grades 10-12 it becomes optional. Having students
participate in this program can enhance physical
education among youth, motivate them to
participate in physical activities/sports and
encourage them to maintain a healthy lifestyle (Lunn,
2021).
5. CLOVERDALE RECREATION CENTRE

• What makes it a public sector?
The Cloverdale Rec Centre plays a critical role in
making this community inclusive. It allows access
to the general public which provides fitness,events
and age-related programs to encourage well-being
upon individuals (Lunn,2021).
• Connection to 2210:Recreation andcoaching
This is a perfect example of the recreation component as it
offers numerous activities and services such as access to
the weight room,fitness classes,childcare,programs for
youth and seniors and a swimming pool,supporting Lunn's
(2021,p.5) statement "Recreation is a fundamental human
need for persons of all ages." People pay a small drop-in fee
to access these services,which is a taxed based funding to
make sure recreation is easily accessible (Lunn,2021).This
can also be an example of coaching as it has personal
trainers to help people better their physical fitness.
7. ANYTIME FITNESS

• What makes it a Commerical sector?
Anytime Fitness creates "revenue from fees;
corporate sponsorship" (Lunn, 2021,p. 6).
Users must pay a cost to use this service and
the "supplier expects to make a profit"
(MacLean, Peterson, & Martin, 1985,p. 220,as
cited in Karlis, 2011,p. 79,as cited in Lunn,
2021,p. 6)
• Connection to 2210:Recreation, Coaching and
physical education
• They provide "quality products and services"
(Lunn, 2021,p. 8).Which is facilitated by trainers
who coach individuals to improve physical
fitness through quality instruction. Having access
to gym equipment and personal trainers
encourage physical education and better physical
health (Lunn, 2021). Paying a monthly fee allow
members to access all benefits of the fitness
center at any time.
8. CLUB 16

• What makes it a Commercial sector?
• This gym is a Commerical business because the
members pay a bi-weekly fee to use the facility and
a profit orientated business (Lunn, 2021). Club 16
is based on demand from anyone who can afford
it and provides advertisement to compete with
other gyms which creates this demand (Lunn, 2021,
p. 6).
• Connection to 2210:Recreation, physical
education and coaching
Club 16 offers personal training sessions to help
clients reach their fitness needs and goals.With that, it
can improve their lifestyle from bettering their
physical and mental (confidence) well-being,which
correlates to physical education. People can also
attend the gym to work on themselves, perhaps as a
leisure activity.Within this gym you will see a quote of
"Judgement free zone", this shows the gyms purpose
is to serve public good by providing "quality products
and services" (Lunn, 2021,p. 8).
9. CINEPLEX CINEMAS LANGLEY

• What makes it a Commerical sector?
To enter the Cinema a fee must be paid for your
chosen movie.This commercial recreation brings
entertainment to those who can afford it and
"serve public good of some kind" (Lunn,2021,p. 6)
• Connection to 2210:Recreation
This facility falls under the category of a "indoor
Commerical recreation",which include "movie
theatres" (Lunn,2021,p.6). It is open for all public to
come an enjoy a movie of their choice, enhancing social
connections and interactions.The movies allow access
for every age giving them a safe place for fun
opportunities,which describes recreation as " a
fundamental human need for persons of all ages" (Lunn,
2021,p.5). But is not limited to just movies,there is
also arcade games and food that requires payment.
11. CLOVERDALE MINOR SOFTBALL

• What makes it a non-profit sector?
Cloverdale minor softball is a part of the non-profit
sector because it relies on team fees as well as
sponsorships.Individuals (Like myself) volunteer as
coaches to help teams.As Lunn (2021,p. 10) states " rely
on the efforts of members and volunteers for sustained
survival."
• Connection to 2210:Coaching and physical education
There are many coaching opportunities within the Cloverdale
softball community for teams of all ages and competition levels.
These coaches teach the athletes technical/tactical skills,provide
motivation and encouragement and demonstrate leadership abilities.
While the athletes are learning from their coaches,they are being
physically active which improves their level of fitness demonstrating
a healthy lifestyle.It also allows them to develop athletic abilities and
hopefully pursue in other sports!
12. CLOVERDALE MINOR BASEBALL

• What makes it a non-profit sector?
Cloverdale minor baseball organizes their
sports by the help of volunteers (Lunn, 2021).
Relying on the help of team family members
to volunteer for tournaments and games, for
example; score keeping or cleaning fields
between games. Many of the coaches for all
the age groups volunteer and their team
managers.
• Connection to 2210:Coaching and physical
education
Coaches here get to hold tryouts to provide
opportunities for young athletes to take part in a
sport. They teach skills and sportsmanship for the
athletes to learn,grow and develop.This also addresses
physical education as the athletes are encouraged to
improve their physical fitness,understand new
movements and grow in confidence.
13. TONG LOUIE FAMILYYMCA

• What makes it a non-profit sector?
This facility relies on donations and its members, as Lunn
(2021,p. 10)addresses "Rely on members [and] focus on
fundraising." They offer services such as swimming
lessons,fitness classes,childcare, etc.The YMCA acquires
" Profit-making for sustaining services... to generate
enough profit to cover cost only" and increases
"employment opportunities" (Lunn, 2021,p.8) While also
giving volunteers great opportunities for work
experience.
• Connection to 2210:Recreation
Individuals can come in on their own times (with a
small fee) to participate in events, fitness and
youth programs.These offered programs "invest in
leisure and recreation" (Lunn, 2021,p. 10),where
they promote health and fitness and mental
wellness. Furthermore, making it "good for
society/community" (Lunn,2021,p. 8).
