(MacLean, Peterson, & Martin, 1985, p. 220, as cited in Karlis, 2011,
p. 79 , as cited by Lunn, 2020, that a consumer pays for a certain
recreational activity and there is profit being made by the ones
selling their services. Futbol is part of the commercial sector
because they are offering highly skilled coaches to teach soccer
and other physical activities. They also have drop-ins and punch
cards for their fitness gym. As well as they rent out their fields.
Futbol would be apart of the coaching, due to the high levels of
coaches they have in their facility.

“Being a youth is tough! Pressure from friends, the media, school
workload, family and others can cause confusion. New Westminster
Youth Services strives to support youth socially, physically and
culturally through a wide variety of programs, services and
partnerships. https://www.newwestyouth.ca/
To support all youth in New Westminster, Youth Services is split into
three geographic neighbourhoods: East End, Central-West and
Queensborough. Each neighbourhood has unique programs
including drop-ins, youth councils, boys-and-girls clubs, sports clubs,
arts programs and life skill development to support 11-18 year olds
in a vareity of ways. This is all supported by our Youth
Centre centrally located in Moody Park. We also have cool special
events likes dances, teen swims & skates, concerts and other
programs like the Youth Firefighter Program, Royal City Sound DJ
program and a variety of seasonal out-trips.
https://www.newwestyouth.ca/
We also partner with many community groups to maxmize what we
can offer to youth in New Westminster and are always trying to find
new programs and experiences for youth.”

New Westminster
Youth CentreDrop in fee $0.50
As Lunn, 2020, said a
volunteer sector is mainly run
by all volunteers. The non-
profit usually has very close
ties to the community, such as
this one. This centre is
completely run by volunteers.
They only charge $0.50 for the
drop ins. The centre runs
many recreational activities
such as dances, swimming,
etc.

“École Lord Tweedsmuir Elementary, with its proud history of over
70 years, is pleased to offer Early French Immersion in addition to
the regular program from kindergarten to grade five.
The 2019-2020 school year opens with several exciting and
impressive initiatives well underway or complete.
Our Outdoor Green Space has been a two-year project and our
Zones of Regulation Program now includes two “Zones” room
spaces, helping promote self-regulation and classroom success for
students.
Last year, staff introduced e-portfolios to parents at every grade
level as we continue to strive to make communication of student
learning accessible and informative for parents.
As well, our designated “Maker-Space” allows whole classes a
dynamic and materials-rich venue to imagine, design, and build!”

Ecole Lord
Tweedsmuir
Lord Tweedsmuir is identified as a public sector because it offers a
free service to the public. This service is to help enhance the daily
lives of the community. (Lunn, 2020)
It is listed as physical education because children will learn the
importance of health and exercises in their classes. It is the basic-
human right to promote a heathy lifestyle through sports and
recreation. (Lunn, 2020) Lord Tweedsmuir promotes that by offering
programs outside of school for sports and recreation.

Canada’s Game Pool is part of the
commercial sector because they offer a
high level of services to the public. Their
facility is unique and offer affordable
services. (Lunn, 2020.)
I said Canada’s game pool was recreation because it
offers indoor leisure and recreational services. The
commercial sector saw the need for leisure and recreation
services, and by giving that service to the public, they
make a profit. They have to stay up to date with trends
and fads to keep their facility going (Lunn, 2020).

“Century House and Century House Association have been working
together to provide activities for seniors since that day. The city owns
the building and the land and pays the staff and for the maintenance,
upkeep and operations of the building. The volunteer-driven
Association works together with the staff to provide activities and
programs for all the members to enjoy and utilizes volunteers to run
dozens of drop in activities every week.”

The Century House Association is part of the
volunteer sector because it relies on the
volunteers to run the programs and services, they
have going on there. (Lunn, 2020)
It is recreational because it is extremely important
to recognize the need for leisure and recreation
in the society. Century House Association focuses
on the importance of health and recreation for
seniors.

“New Westminster Secondary is one of the largest high schools in British
Columbia enrolling approximately 2000 students from grades 9 through
12.
We are proud of our many outstanding academic programs including
International Baccalaureate and French Immersion as well as our
outstanding performing arts, sports and apprenticeship programs.
There are many engaging options at our school for students as they
journey towards graduation, including extra-curricular clubs and activities
to suit a vast array of interests.
Our school has a rich culture where diversity is celebrated, and
relationships are nurtured.
Our mission at New Westminster Secondary School is to develop
responsible citizens and lifelong learners who: Respect Learning, Respect
the Environment, and Respect Themselves and Others. Students, staff and
parents working together to teach, model and reinforce our three simple
School Rules will ensure a successful year for everyone.” https://nwss.ca/

This is public because schools are deemed as a
public good, because they are necessary for
learning and growing. It is also a free service to
the public. (Lunn, 2020)
It is associated with physical education because
the municipal government is to offer and
encourage programs and facilities to the public.
This is offered through public schools, such as
programs, sports teams and after school activities.
As well as in class when it is time for P.E.

“Lord Kelvin Elementary School is a diverse K-5 school located in the heart
of New Westminster. Our school offers its students an outstanding
educational experience. Our classroom teachers, resource specialists,
support staff, administrators, custodians, parents & the community
support staff ensure students’ and their families’ needs are met.
Our present school enrolment is 500 students in 23 divisions. We have a
diverse population which comprises half of our school consisting of
students from countries other than Canada. The diversity allows for
students and staff to gain respect for other cultures and people.
Our Mission
Lord Kelvin’s Mission is to provide a safe, nurturing and respectful learning
environment that will empower our students to become confident and
responsible life-long learners. We welcome the involvement of families
and community as essential partners in supporting our children on their
journey. In addition, our school Code of Conduct expects everyone will
conduct themselves in a manner which is Safe, Kind, Respectful and
Responsible in order to promote and maintain our school culture.”

Lord Kelvin
Elementary
Lord Kelvin is labelled as a public sector
because it’s available for free to the public. The
government is responsible for providing
adequate health and recreational needs to
the public. This is a necessary service to the
good of the society. (Lunn, 2020)
Lord Kelvin is mostly physical education,
because the teachers at the school teach the
kids the important of health and sports in life.
That to live healthy life style, you must live an
active one. Schools provide after school
activities, as well as in class activities.

“Ryall Park offers visitors a dynamic range of active and
passive leisure pursuits for everyone.
Park amenities include tennis, volleyball, playgrounds,
spray park, trails, open green space, trees, flowers,
benches and picnic tables.”
https://www.newwestcity.ca/parks-and-
recreation/parks/community-parks/articles/5375.php
Ryall park is both Public and volunteer because it
provides a free service to the public, with
playgrounds, off roading bike area, fields, spray park
and much more for families and individuals.
It is recreational because the park provides
opportunities to those who may be less fortunate
financially (Lunn, 2020.). They might not be able to
afford the soccer lessons or gymnastics for their
children but can take their kids to the park and work
with them on their own.

Moody Park Arena
Moody park is labeled as a
commercial sector because a
service is being offered for a price,
usually this is meant to bring in a
profit for that business. (Lunn,
2020.) Moody arena has adapted
during the during the spring and
summer months, by renting our
their arenas for lacrosse players.
I have labelled it as recreation,
because they are offering
recreational and leisure skating to
the public. They understand the
importance of recreational and
leisure to society.
