have a Track, walking routes, outdoor pool, outdoor water park,
basketball court, skate park and more

it provides opportunities for the disadvantaged while still promoting a
healthy lifestyles (Lun, 2021)

This would be considered a recreation example because this park a is a
non-profit, free, recreation program that done an excellent job of
developing the community. (Lun,202, pg5) Furthermore, is also a catalyst
for community development because on top the free activities, they also
host free events throughout the year that attract big crowds (Lun,

This one would also fall under recreation because it plays a significant role in building a cohesive community, along
with providing opportunities for all ages, genders, and ethnicities (Lun,2021, pg5). Personally, I visited this sport and
leisure center a lot growing up and I saw firsthand how it helped develop the community. Kids held birthday parties
here, parents wouldn’t just drop off their kids and leave, they would excited to meet other parents and they had a
lounge for the elderly as well too. Furthermore, this recreation center highlights how the municipal government have
done a good job to use recreation to build the community (Lun,2021, pg 5)

This is considered a public sector because they offer free valuable opportunities for the communities by having
a large outdoor skate park, outdoor basketball hoops and they host a Canada day event every year which gives
the community access to a free concert (Lun,2021, pg 3).

The municipal government does a good job offering a wide range of opportunities for individuals of all ages and
communities (Lun, 2021, pg 6). They offer swimming lessons for kids 3+ all the way to seniors 60+.
This recreation center offers a lot of opportunities to volunteer as a young coach, they also hire coaches for
programs such as Pilates, spin classes, working out and much more.

30 minute hit is a women's only facility that runs High intensity interval training classes that are based of
kickboxing. This would be a considered a commercial sector because the people who attend the classes pay
for the training and the owner's profit from it (Lun,2021, pg 6).

30 minute hit offers women the opportunity to learn exercise in new fun way, by incorporating kickboxing into it
they also learn self defence.
Furthermore, they offer new employment opportunities for people who are trained in kickboxing (Lun, 2021,

have recognized a form of leisure(axe throwing) that has spread throughout the lower mainland
very quickly and have created a business out of it.

Guildford Town Center exemplifies what a commercial sector should be they offer tourism, entertainment

Guildford town center would be considered recreation because they employment opportunities, after being
renovated they increased the local area property value and it stimulates the local economy (Lun,2021, pg 7).
Additional to the recreation opportunities it offers inside, landmark cinemas is located in the same plaza and the
have a bridge that goes across the exits in front of the Guildford recreation center.

Most often located in Surrey, however travel across the lower mainland. Don’t not have a clubhouse.
Sector: Voluntary
UBR field hockey club is a voluntary leisure and recreation organization that was formed by former team
Canada field hockey players (Lun, 2021, pg 8). The club was organized by volunteer coaches to give young
athletes the ability to play against amateur and professional teams. Numerous players from this organization
have been selected to play for team Canada on different occasions.

This club has mostly been run of the efforts of volunteer coaches that love the game and hence why they are
still around today (Lun, 2021, pg 10). Furthermore, they rely on fundraising, participation of members and they
invest into the future of the club (Lun, 2021, pg 10).

YMCA is volunteer based non-profit basketball association that has strong ties to local communities by helping

I’ve participated as both player and a coach in this organization. Since a lot of kids join this basketball league
this a very good opportunity to get into coaching. Most coaches that I have spoken to, along me with me
included, got our very first coaching opportunity in this league. This organization has survived and thrived
thanks to the volunteer coaches, parents and most importantly the members (Lun, 2021,pg 10).

R.E.C. for kids would fall into the voluntary sector because they are a non-profit organization
that is driven by volunteers (Lun, 2021,pg 9). This organization recycles old sports equipment
that can be fixed and given to children or families in need. They offer equipment from sports
such as hockey, baseball, soccer, bikes and much more.
