The document discusses the production of posters and a trailer for a horror film project. It describes experimenting with lighting, textures, and colors for the posters to achieve a disturbing look for the mask. Details like visible eyes were added to hint at a human side. The final poster featured a close-up of the mask looking directly at the viewer. Low light filming caused quality issues for the trailer, but an old, grungy look was added in post-production to style it as a 1970s film. Music was chosen and synced to trailer clips to build suspense.
6. For my second poster, I once again took the
photos in a Photography studio to try get the best
results with quality and lighting. The image on the
bottom of the screen was an experiment on
lighting, editing, texture and colour to see which
of these particular materials would work best
blended with this mask, for example I
experimented with grainy / concrete textures
overlaid on the mask and it gave it a more dirty
look which I was happy with, and I decided to
experiment with the paint brush tool, seeing which
colours work best when blended onto the mask, I
decided to go for a yellow / orange look as I feel
that it really made the mask look rotten which is
what I was going for. I am going to use this image
for my official second poster. The mask is very
disturbing, and I think it works very well in the
lighting tone I chose, as it almost looks like it is
appearing out of the shadows. I also like how the
eye and mouth holes are very dark, and the eyes
and mouth are just barely visible. I achieved this
effect by using tools such as levels and curves,
which darken the image, and I was able to invert
them, and then paint in the areas where I would
like the shadows to be. I like the idea of being able
to see an eye inside of the mask, to highlight to
the audience that there may be a human side to
this monstrous looking killer so I am going to
implement it into the poster. Luckily, the camera I
used was of very high quality, which made getting
certain details, such as the eye very easy and in
high quality.
7. After I had finished my experiment, I
decided to go for a different style and not
have the mask in the center of the page/ I
also decided to add in a picture of my
own eye to add to the horror factor, I also
made it quite dark, so it may not be
visible to everyone on first glance. I also
decided to add a lot more darkness /
shadows using the levels tool because I
wanted to highlight the idea that the mask
was appearing out of the darkness and
only half of it was visible. The colours and
textures are fairly similar to my
experiment version, and I really like the
skin tone the mask has. I think that the
overall look of the face would appeal to
my audience greatly, as it fits with what
my audience claims they enjoy from
horror movie posters in my research like
suspense and horror movie masks.

9. For my final poster I decided to go
for something similar as to what I did
with my second poster. I am a fan of
posters where there is a face as the
main focus of the image, so for this
poster, I decided that the face would
take up almost the whole poster.
The image I used for this poster was
also taken in a photography room. It
is very similar to the last image, but
not the same. In the image I used for
my second poster, the head is more
tilted towards the ground whilst the
eye looks up to the audience. The
image in this poster however looks
directly at the camera, as if you were
face to face with the mask in the
poster.
10. As this poster was the theatrical poster,
and would be the poster that would be
seen at cinemas and public
advertisements, I decided to add a billing
/ credit block listing everyone involved in
the film, as I found as I was researching
that most theatrical posters include a
billing block. As I had already created the
lighting when I took the photo in the
photography room, not much lighting
work was done on photoshop. The main
thing I did on Photoshop was change the
colours a little to give them a more
unnatural / warmer feeling, as well as
adding grunge textures to the image.
Another reason why I chose this specific
colour pattern for this poster is that I
thought back to my audience research,
and how they claimed that the more
violent looking posters were the more
effective, so I wanted to give this poster
some unnatural colouring to make it seem
more violent / gory.

14. I was very fortunate when filming my trailer, as I was actually on Holiday in Gran Canaria when
filming part of it, so I was able to get my own nice mountain side shots without taking any from
YouTube. Most of the trailer was filmed at night with low light source, so this unfortunately caused
background noise and some low quality shots, but I decided to give the trailer a 1970s look, (my
film is based in the 70s), and gave it all an old grungy look by adding jitter and film scratches. The
main reason I did this was to try to make some of the bad quality shots look as if they were
supposed to be filmed that way. I also think it adds to the overall tone of the trailer too, as it is a
horror movie trailer. Editing my trailer was also a fairly simple process. I took royalty free horror
music from YouTube to use in my trailer, and synced the clips to the music. The reason I chose the
music I did however is because it was very suspenseful and fit with my trailer. The music started
out very peacefully and then transitioned more violently towards the climax of the trailer when bad
things were happening, as seen from the dramatic / intense editing of mixed shots of the killer. I
also synced the music to the trailer to give the effect of a heartbeat, and I tis getting faster as more
horror scary things happen until it eventually stops at the title card, giving the effect that a
character may have died. The mask that was used in the trailer was the exact same mask I used
in my posters. I'm really happy with the overall look of the mask in the trailer, and I like how most
of the time the eye and mouth holes are covered up by the darkness, giving it a sinister effect. All
of the shots in the trailer were filmed by myself, and I had a friend play the killer in the trailer. The
only problem I found with the trailer was simply some of the quality, as a lot of where we filmed did
not have a very good light source, causing some clips to come out too dark or noisy. Some of the
clips I shot, specifically the long shots at the beginning were shot when I was in holiday and there
was a lot of light, therefore noise and low quality was less. One way in which I tried to improve the
quality on some shots was by sharpening the video. It improved the quality a small amount but
looked too sharp when too much was added.
