1. Creating my film poster

2. First draft An important thing to recognise about my first attempt of my film poster is that the image used is not my own, but one I found on the internet. At this point it was more important for me to understand the basic conventions of a film poster. This attempt was one in which I could experiment and understand what a poster consists of. The image used is a basic anchorage for the location of my film trailer. Although not an exact setting, the image is of a forest. The gloomy dark tint within the frame denotes the horror, thus already establishing the genre I wish to follow. In maintaining this colour theme of red, black and white, it again further establishes this horror genre, enticing the audience. The use of only three colours within the poster allows it to appear more presentable and less cluttered also. As this is my first attempt, I am very much aware that much change is needed, the biggest of course being the introduction of my own images. Moreover, in doing further research upon film posters, It has come to my attention that film reviews would further benefit my poster in looking official. Additionally, a more descriptive and narrative tagline is much needed tor the advertisement of my film trailer

3. Second draft The second draft of my film poster was my attempt to both copy, and distance myself from stereotypical conventions of a film poster, allowing me to determine what works, and what doesn't. Here is my second attempt of a film poster. At this point, i had taken photographs of certain images in which i would like to use for my film poster, however, I had not begun filming, and images were limited. In keeping to a colour scheme of black and white (with the exception of the golden stars) The poster is successful in denoting that of the horror genre. The contrasting colours are certainly an enticement to the audience, as it is clear and stands out to the audience. The associations of the colours used are semantic to the narrative of the film. The black connoting death and the unknown, and the white creating a ghostly, haunting tone. The image used within the poster is large, consuming the entirety of the page. This illustrates the importance of the young girl.

4. Third draft The third attempt of my film poster was one in which I had gained more experience, and more knowledge on what my film was about. The decision to maintain the anchoring image of the young girl was made. However, adaption's to the image allow it to seem more professional. I have changed the title of my film within the poster. I felt this title was much more appropriate, as it associates itself with a children's' nursery rhyme, thus, releasing some information on what my film trailer consists of. The addition of a phrase from the nursery rhyme, 'The sandman' allows the film poster to anchor itself further. The use of this, I feel, creates a more eerie tone to the film. In being influenced by films surrounding children as a scary factor, such as hide and seek and the omen, it clearly presents itself in a creepy manner. Unlike the previous draft of my film poster, I have developed a colour scheme fitted more for my genre, yet allowing it to seem presentable and tidy. The addition of red, which is typically denoted to the horror genre, will entice the target audience. Despite red being the least common colour within the frame, it remains successful in a appealing itself to the audience. .

5. A sense of symmetry is apparent within the poster, particularly within the positioning of the text. This is highlighted within the film review and the tag-line, "We don't control our minds anymore. She does". This again allows the poster to look more professional and presentable. Clearly the developments have had a great impact on the appeal of my poster. Clear improvements have been made following my first attempt of the product due to more research of existing posters within the media. However, as this is still only an early draft of what I would like my product to look like, I am aware that some changes need to be made

6. Fourth draft An obvious development of my film trailer is the different image. As this is an actual frame from the trailer, I felt this would be much more appropriate. It brings about anchorage, identifying the poser with the trailer. Moreover, the image is much more eerie. I have continued the nursery rhyme, as I feel it adds to the sub-theme, that is, challenging the innocence of children Moreover, I have continued the symmetry of both the tag-line and the film reviews. I have changed the way in which the release date was displayed. By placing it numerically, I believe it is more to the point.

8. This is how I created the final image for my poster. How I edited my poster image

9. Original This was the original image in which I decided to use for the poster for the advertising package of my film trailer. Although the image is already rather cryptic and eerie, o feel it could be further improved, and reach a high quality standard. In order to do so, I would use iphoto, to edit the image. Here is a tutorial upon how I produced the final effect for my film poser.

10. I used an apple Mac laptop to use the software, ‘iphoto’. Firstly, I had to upload the image onto the laptop and place the image into a folder within iphoto.

11. -I then went clicked on the effects icon, and looked through possible image effects. The one I felt added more of an appropriate, eerie tone was the ‘Boost’ effect. It gave me an option between 1-9, one being the lowest, and nine being the highest. I chose 9. -The effect was very successful in creating a more apparent creepy tone to an already eerie image.

12. -After adding the boos to the image, I then clicked onto the ‘adjust’ icon. This would allow me to change the exposure, contrast, saturation and much more. -I decided to change the saturation to 56, as well as the shadows to 17. Moreover, I changed the temperature to 18 to create a slightly yellow ting, to create an almost subtle sepia tone. -These adjustments made subtle, yet effective improvements to the image, allowing it to seem much more professional.

13. Outcome This was the final outcome of the effects. I feel that this is a vast improvement to the original image, and certainly asserts itself with the horror genre. The almost grungy effect allows the image to reach its full potential in terms of creating an eerie tone. Overall, I feel that iphoto definitely allowed me to improve the image more so than would be possible on another software, particularly due to the fact that it was so easy and efficient to use.
