2. Guidance
• This template PowerPoint presentation includes all the
relevant elements you need to cover your film production.
• It is suggested you save this PP in a different name so you
always have a copy – some sections require you to delete
the information on the slide and replace with your own
work
• Add more pages to each section where necessary [you
should be doing this!]
• Add visuals as you see necessary
• This document will be added to as you progress through
the pre-production phase.
• Remember, you need to give as much attention to your
sound planning as you do to your visual planning
4. Your story
• Use the story development resource to help structure your short film with more detail.
• Not all the aspects have to be followed verbatim, use the resource the plan out character, motivation, stakes and the arc of your film, this will help to
ensure that it works structurally
• Performa is on bb
• Add a structural breakdown of each scene once you have done this
7. Structural breakdown
Opening of the film -
location – it will be set in a kitchen ad this will be like this for most of the film and the reason for this is because I it is his charters setting to be sat in the
room at this time. The shots required for this will first be a panning shot panning out the surroundings of the guy getting you familiar with the surroundings
of the room visually, then this would skip to out scoped shot of the main character stood folding washing in the room and from there it would move to the
main character and slowly zoom in on him the pan around what he is doing which would be folding the washing, the screen will dark and gritty from the
opening. The next scene that will be shown is the spooky things happening, I will visualize it so that it shows the main character from a below shot showing
the main character beneath them and as the film goes on it will rise up until he tries to fight the evil and this will then show them from a even playing field
and then at the end from visual perspective it will show the main character above the evil spirit. throughout the movie it will switch between them. During
the film it will switch a lot and move back and forth between panning shots and close up shots and then to medium shots the reason for this is to make sure
that in the film makes everything visible in the room e.g. facial expressions tone and atmosphere but to ensure tat it is all done at the same time. I want
every new day to open with a panning shot the reason for this is because I want to show the drop I tone and atmosphere throughout the starting days and
then how it picks up the tone throughout the day as things start to pick up.
8. Structural breakdown
Scene No. or section
(e.g. beginning,
middle, end, etc)
Approx timing What happens Visual notes Audio notes
Beginning 30 seconds
As it opens up to the story the
main character will be doing the
washing which is something that
the character despises doing and
he has to do this everyday and
because of this he has a hatred
of this certain minute I where he
is in the middle of the job.
This part will show the main
characters expressions about
how he hates that minute it will
zoom in on the clock and then
his face showing his facial
expressions. It would visually
represent the characters feelings
and responses to doing different
chore displaying the story.
The audio would play calm and
relaxing music at the start to
how the tone and setting the
atmosphere of the short film. I
think that this would be good
music to start off with and set
the tone.
Beginning 30 seconds
The tone will stat to change and
the reason for this is that some
eerie things will start happening
to the main protagonist and he
will be scared.
The camera will have a few
panning shots at this part of the
story to show his surroundings
and the things changing around
him on that minute without him
realising.
The tone of music would change
shining the instant change in
atmosphere at that minute.
Middle 30 seconds
He will start to figure out how to
combat against the threat that
happens at that minute this
shows he is starting to stand up
to it.
There will be multiple shots that
show the change in his attitude
this will mainly focus on him
rather then what's happening
sound him
I would add in action style music
o show him building up to trying
to deal with the threat.
Middle 30 seconds
His will show him tying to fight
back and failing at it miserably
and from this he looses more
sanity and doesn't’t know what
to do to deal with it.
It ill show him in pain over not
being able to do anything about
it and from there it will show
how helpless he is even when
trying and so there's nothing he
can do.
The audio would be sad, this is
showing how he failed in trying
to stop them.
End 30 seconds
This part of the film will show
him getting used to what
happens in the minute and
learning to live with it.
The shots will show the same
relaxed shots and visuals it
showed at the beginning and the
reason for this is because they
have won.
The music would be calm and
relaxing like it was on the audio
at the beginning.

18. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
I could loose all my work that’s saved on the
computer.
save it to the computer and the memory stick
to have it in 2 places.
I could loose my work on the computer and
then loose my memory stick.
send the work to myself via email as well as
have it saved on the computer and the memory
stick.
my computer could stop working with my work
on it.
find a new computer to work off instead and
use a memory stick to save the work.
the wi-fi connection may be lost while using it
for research.
use phone to continue looking at the research
to help with the project.
being distracted by others while working on my
project.
bring earphones to help myself not get
distracted by other people.
my keyboard could stop working and break
while am typing something out or using key
short cuts on photoshop.
get a new keyboard from somewhere else and
use that instead.

my work as a whole throughout the
movie.
24. Resources, costume, props,
consumables
Recourses, costumes, props and consumables used.
A washing up bowl will be used as a prop as well as a plate and washing that will be folded. A baseball
bat will also be a prop used in this. With props I felt like there wasn’t many I could actually have put in
as the films story didn’t actually revolve around props that much, a prop that will be included is the
clock and a watch although those are not by choice but part of the short film requirement as it revolves
around time.
There will be no costumes used in this short film just peoples casual and typical clothing will be present
as it is to be realistic to the character and to do so I needed to make it so that it looked like everyone
was as genuine as possible in the film and the way of doing that was to get everyone to just dress up as
they normally would dress.
the recourses that I will need to use is a computer that has adobe premier on it as I will need that for
editing my final film. I will also need a computer for the different Microsoft programmes that I will be
using within this project.
There will not be any consumables used in this project.
26. Diegetic sound
Sounds needed Reason
The wind Because it is a realistic sound that is always there
and I feel that this sound is important to have I my
short film.
Kettle The reason that I feel this sound is important is
because this sound shows the surroundings of a
kitchen and is used in the kitchen as a noise in a
lot of horror films or just films I general.
The washing machine going This is because it adds some more atmosphere to
the surrounding area for the audience and the
main character.
Rain An important sound because it can be used to set
the scene but more important with the rain sound
effect you can imagine the visuals of the outside
without actually seeing it.
Thunder Represents a stormy night with sound meaning I
don’t have to show the thunder and lightning just
the noise of it will set the scene in atmosphere
change.
27. Non-diegetic sound
Sounds needed Reason
Music The short film will have a soundtrack this will
create a tempo for the film which will be useful in
presenting an tone.
Eerie sounds Strong tone drops to enthesis the mystery and
horror of what's happening like what they do in
insidious this would be the same premise.
Silence This will be nothing in tone just silence for us
leaving people wondering what going on and
what's happening. The main character it would be
silent for him but to us it would be.
Editor's Notes
Breakdown your film into it’s basic sections [e.g. via scene breakdown or similar] and apply broad visual ideas to each section. You should list the shots required.
You can use this as the master template for your production, then add more shots to each section when you develop your full visual plan
From this you could work on a conventional script if you want, but using the scene breakdowns should be enough
This section is concerned with the visual planning of your film
You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your video, establish the visuals look and sequencing of your film and create a structure for you to follow when filming
It is important that you ‘pre-visualize’ the film before you make it; it will make filming and production a more streamlined process
The following tasks are part of your visual planning
Pre-visualization and concept boards
Storyboarding
Shot list
Your storyboard should bring your idea to life
Provide an idea of the sequencing of you film
Provides a basis for production
Suggested online storyboard creators are:
https://www.storyboardthat.com
http://www.pixton.com [very complicated]
http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you to insert your own images]
Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and scan or copy to insert it onto your slides
There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard!
Your shot list should contain the sequential breakdown of what you need to shoot for your film
It should work in partnership with your storyboard
It will be your working document when you film
It should contain the shot number, scene number, shot description, framing, cast/location info and action you will see
It should also have information on performers in the scene and other props, etc
Shot list template is on Blackboard in the pre-production folder.
Include names, contact info, and defined roles at difference stages of production, using a table is suggested
Who is going to be in your film, how and why have they been deemed your best choice? Do you have any backup options?
Information and images of your location[s] for filming
You should have address details, clearance/premissions for filming, recce photos and floorplans [including camera, equipment and cast/crew layouts]
Where possible, have a plan B fallback location option
Assess each location for any issues and suggest solutions
Risk Assess each separate filming location using the provided form in the pre-production folder on Blackboard and insert into your PowerPoint
Completing a generic filming assessment would be a start, then you can add specialist/site specific risks as you progress your production
Remember, a Risk Assessment is an ongoing document, you should evaluate if anything changes in production and when you put control measures in place
Any place you film and anyone you use in the filming of your video must have a completed form
Blank forms are on Blackboard for you to complete and insert here
List, explain how you’ll acquire and provide an overview of anything else you’ll need for your production – this is about anything that isn’t cast, crew, technical equipment and locations, but could be how those things will be moved to a location, for example.
These are sounds in the environment, part of the ‘world’ your character experiences – these can be recorded on location, produced afterwards using foley techniques, etc. Some use of royalty free sounds is permitted, but you must list their sources and information
Consider what you might need, how you are going to get it, etc
You could reference similar productions and the effect of their sound mix and choices
These are the sounds/audio that the audience experiences, but are not part of the ‘world’ of the character[s], this could be music, sound cues, etc.
Consider where you are going to get these, only royalty free sources and original content is permitted – please track your sources
You could also produce your own soundtrack using garage band
