2. Process
I first started out with a simple
Skyrim background, this background
the consumer that this is to do with
Skyrim or to do with something
similar, it is also a beautiful artistic
piece which suits the theme nicely,
it is also a good standard
background which works well on a
magazine front cover, it would also
catch the eye of the audience of
which I am targeting, (They have the
age range of 12-20) this background
was found on Google Images by
searching ‘Skyrim background’, once
I had this in photoshop using copy
and paste, I used the transform tool
to get it to my (210x297mm) size
which I wanted, (it was originally
2000x1080) , I did this because it
was originally a much larger size and
would not have fit on my magazine
cover, I used this image because it is
a piece of art based on
scenery/landscape taken right from
the game ‘Skyrim’ which my
magazine focuses on.
3. Process
I then added a picture of the dragonborn, I
found this image on google images and
added it into the file using copy and paste,
once it was in the file I used the burn tool to
darken the bottom of the character and this
made it fit in with the background, this is a
common thing to do in magazines, having a
character in a large size right in the middle
of the page, this enforces that the magazine
is mainly about Skyrim and gives the
character presence, it also makes the
character seem like the main subject of the
magazine and it also makes people who like
Skyrim interested in the magazine, this
means it will target my audience and they
will have more incentive to buy the
magazine, then I also added a banner to the
top of the page a red, yellow and black
theme, I used these colours because I feel
like they contrast each other well and also
stand out so they can catch the eye of my
audience, I added the title of the magazine
‘PC Daily’ at the top, I had to use the
rectangle tool to make the banner at the
top, the red, yellow and black part are all
done using the rectangle tool, I did this
because most magazines have a banner at
the top and mine would be no different, the
text was added by using the text tool, I used
the impact font and set it at a large font size
(120 pt) so it would be easy for the
audience to see and so it would catch their
attention and make them look at the
magazine, and it was all put together by
using the selection tool.
4. Process
I then added multiple things to the magazine to
thicken it out and add more detail to the magazine
inside, including the bottom banner which has the age
rating and the barcode in, these are incredibly
important as they are key in magazine front covers, to
make this bottom banner I used the rectangle tool and
set it as a yellow colour, I also then used the rectangle
tool twice again to make a red border around this
yellow rectangle, I also added an Elder Scrolls title
across the middle of the magazine cover, I had to use
the magic wand to remove the black background
which was around this so it would fit on my magazine,
this made sure people knew this was a magazine
about The Elder Scrolls, and made me sure my
audience would know what this magazine was about, I
then also added information about what is inside the
magazine as to tease people with information of what
is to come for them, I added all this together by using
the magic wand tool, this included removing
background from logos I found on google images so it
would fit onto the magazine cover, the selection tool
which I used to move the text around on the page into
suitable places so people would draw their attention
to it, the text tool which I used to make the
information on the front of the magazine, this text
was the font size of between 14 pt and 18 pt, the
rectangle tool which I used to make the yellow, red
and black banners, I used this colour to make it stand
out to the audience so it would catch their eye, I also
used the oval tool to make the circle/oval shape at the
top right of the magazine, I used it twice to make one
red oval behind the yellow one to give it a border, and
I used transform tool to scale down the sizes of logos
or to scale the size up depending on their original size,
all of these were key to making this poster the final
product that it is now, and these steps were also key
to grabbing the attention of the audience who are
between the ages of 12-20, I think the audience would
enjoy this magazine as from the results I got from my
survey most of my audience prefers Video game
magazines, this gives us an idea of what their
psychographic is, all these layers came together to
create this and are done in a nice order to show this.
5. Process
• I first started out by getting an anime
themed background from google
images, I copy and pasted this into
the photoshop file, I had to size this
picture to my 24x36 file size (Which
is the normal large size for posters),
the image was originally 3360x1050
so it had to be made smaller to fit
my poster using the transform tool,
this suited the poster as I was doing
a Naruto theme, and Naruto is an
anime, and this is also a nice
background, a grassy plain and a
blue sky fits right into Naruto as
most posters have this theme of a
sky or a grassy field in the
background behind the characters, I
feel like the audience (The people
who notified their love of anime
posters in my survey who of which
are between 12-20 years of age) will
like this background as it fits in and
does not stray from the theme of
Naruto, which gives it a professional
feel, I think especially the contrast
between the green grass and blue
sky catches the audiences eye.
6. Process
I then added the main character Naruto to the front of it, I
copy and pasted this onto the file and changed the size of
the Naruto character from 23x25 cm to 60x90 cm, to
make him bigger, I placed him in the centre to give the
idea that he is the main subject of the poster, it also
makes him look more powerful, this is a common theme
in Naruto posters as it’s showing the main character off
clearly and doesn’t confuse anyone, behind Naruto I
added 3 characters which were of importance to him and
have died, I placed them above and behind Naruto, in the
sky to hit home that they were watching from the sky or
heaven, I lowered their opacity to give the effect that
they’re dead, to fans of Naruto this might be quite
emotional to see, I think the audience which answered
my survey on posters and said they like anime posters
(This audience is also between 12-20 years of age) would
like this as anything that brings out emotion is obviously
powerful in some way, I then added the Naruto title to
the bottom of the screen as this allows anyone to
instantly know what the poster is, I feel like the colours of
the logo really link to the character Naruto and catch your
eye, allowing the audience to know what it is by just
looking at the colours, for this poster I used the contrast
tool which I used for the dead characters I set the contrast
to around 80% for the characters behind Naruto, the
opacity tool which I also used for the dead characters and
I set the opacity of them to around 35%, the magic wand
tool and I used this to separate the characters from either
white or black backgrounds to fit on my background, the
polygon selection tool which I used to cut around the
characters and create a new layer via a cut and the
transform tool to change the size of characters as some
were too big originally, all of these were essential to
making this poster, the poster is a 24 x 36 inch poster this
is the normal size for any large poster.
7. Process
For this next poster I found a dark night
sky right a red moon, the moon contrasts
with the night sky to catch the eye of the
audience which I am targeting from my
survey, also in an anime theme this
looked perfect for a Sasuke poster as
Sasuke is evil in the Naruto anime, I
especially liked the moon as it reminded
me of Sasukes special eye which he has, I
think any fan of Naruto and the audience
(from my survey) of which I am targeting
would understand this and so they would
enjoy seeing it (This audience is between
12-20), to get this background I used
Google Images and searched ‘Anime
moon’ once I found it I had to size it
down to fit to the 24 x 36 inch poster I
was doing, the poster is this size as most
large posters are like this, I used the
transform tool to change the size of the
original moon night sky picture as it was
originally a 1920x1080 image which
wouldn’t fit mine at all, I also used the
magnifying glass light tool to increase
the light of the moon to really give the
effect that it is shining which again
catches the eye of the viewer i.e my
audience.
8. ProcessI then added Sasuke at the bottom of the poster using copy
and paste from an image I found on google images, I
increased the size of Sasuke to again make him seem more
powerful and to make him the centre of the poster so he
seems like the main subject, I used the dodge tool to make
the rays of light from the moon, to make it look like Sasuke
was in the same picture originally, I feel like this attention
to detail is what the audience I’m targeting is looking for
when buying or looking at a poster, I then added Sasukes
special eye The ‘Sharingan’ over the top of the moon, this
was a perfect fit as the moon is red and so is the eye not to
mention that the moon and the eye are both circular, the
reason why Sasuke is alone in this picture is because he is
usually alone in the anime, I then added a custom Sasuke
title to the bottom of the poster, this logo is similar to the
original Naruto one in shape and in the way that the
colours used in it relate to the actual character Sasuke, and
from the colours you think of Sasuke the character, I think
my audience from the survey I took will realise this when
looking at the poster, to make this poster I had to use
many tools, such as the opacity tool which I used to change
the opacity of Sasukes eye which I placed over the moon, I
change the opacity of the eye to about 40%, the dodge
tool which I used to make the rays of moonlight which
appear over Sasuke, the magic wand which I used to cut
Sasuke out of his background and I did this so he would fit
on the background I chose, the transform tool which I used
to change the size of sasuke from 18x20cm to 60x90, the
poster size was 24 x 36 inches which is a normal size for a
large poster.
