MR Geared Elevator refers to an elevator system that incorporates a
gear mechanism in its design, specifically a Machine Room (MR) Geared
Elevator. In elevator technology, the machine room typically houses the
motor, gearbox, and control equipment that drives the elevator system.
Control System: The control system manages the operation of the
elevator, including starting, stopping, and levelling. It also monitors
safety features and may incorporate destination dispatching algorithms
for efficient passenger transportation.
Counterweight: This is a weight that counterbalances the weight of the
elevator car and its occupants, making it easier for the motor to lift the
car. In a geared system, the counterweight is typically connected to the
car via a system of cables and pulleys.
Gearbox: In a geared elevator system, a gearbox is employed to control
the speed and torque of the motors output. This gearbox reduces the
speed of the motor while increasing the torque to effectively move the
elevator.
In modern buildings with high-rise elevators, geared elevators can have
maximum speeds about 2.5 meters per second and it can travel upto
75 meters
MR geared elevators are commonly used in medium to high-rise
buildings. The gear mechanism allows for efficient power transmission
and control over the elevators movement. These elevators are often
chosen for their reliability, energy efficiency, and suitability for buildings
with moderate to heavy traffic.

MACHINE ROOMLESS ELEVATOR - MRL
MRL (Machine Room-Less) gearless elevators are a type of elevator
system that eliminates the need for a dedicated machine room by
integrating the elevators machinery into the hoistway or shaft. These
elevators are powered by gearless traction machines.
Gearless Traction Machine: This is the heart of the elevator system.
The gearless traction machine consists of a permanent magnet
synchronous motor (PMSM) directly coupled to a traction sheave.
The control system manages the operation of the

Counterweight: A counterweight balances the weight of the elevator car,

Some gearless MRL elevators can reach speeds of up to 10 meters per
second (m/s) or more. However, typical speeds for commercial
applications often range between 1 m/s to 4 m/s. Gearless elevators
can travel over 500 meters
In some modern skyscrapers, gearless elevators can travel hundreds of
meters vertically, allowing them to serve buildings with dozens or even
hundreds of oors. However, the exact maximum travel height can be
inuenced by factors such as the elevator manufacturer, motor power,
cable strength, safety systems, and other design considerations.

Hydraulic elevators are commonly used in buildings with fewer oors,
typically up to six oors. They are often preferred for their simplicity,
reliability, However, hydraulic elevators generally have slower travel
speeds and are less energy-efficient
