This document provides summaries of feedback received from questionnaires at different stages of production for a student film project. Initial questionnaires received positive responses about the comedy/horror genre, storyline understanding, target age range of teenagers, and interest in seeing the film. A mid-production questionnaire also had positive feedback about the music, plot, main character, and setting. The final questionnaire indicated most respondents enjoyed the final film, thought the intro/outro and music worked well, and felt the film achieved its goal of being a dark comedy. Suggested areas for improvement included making the talking objects more realistic.
For our A2 media project we have took research from our questionnaires to ask the public what they think about the film industry, our film proposal and more.

2. Initial Audience Feedback
We used a questionnaire in the early stage
of production to make sure the film idea
sounded plausible and also make sure there
would be an audience for the film.
We used Microsoft Word to create the
questionnaire, then used a camera to
interview peoples responses then took the
footage and edited it together and placed
the video on YouTube in order for us to refer
back to it later.
3. Initial Audience Feedback -
Responses
We decided to write a summary
of the responses to each
question incase we were unable
to access the video for any
reason, which happened during
editing when we wanted to make
sure the final cut matched with
the exception of those who were
interviewed.

4. Q1: What genre do you think our film
is?
Out of the five who
responded, all answered
comedy in some form,
two mentioned a blend of
comedy and horror and
one mentioned a
documentary which
could elude to the
portrayal of
schizophrenia.
5. Q2: Do you understand the storyline?
Five out five answered
yes, one person said
that they “understand it
as much as I’m
supposed to.” Which is
one of the main aspects
of the film.
6. Q3: What age range do you think our
film is suitable for?
Four out of five responded with
teenagers and upwards i.e. a
age rating of 15. One person
however responded by saying
that they felt the film would suit
a age rating of 12A, which even
though only being a difference
of three yeas the film would
have to be cut to satisfy the
regulators due to the profanity
used in the film.
7. Q4: How old are you?
Even though the film is targeted
towards teenagers we decided to
interview people who were older
to gauge the opinion of a mature
audience and whether they would
be interested in viewing the film.
Overall we had a range of late
teens to late forties which allowed
us to gather data from not only our
demographic but also from a age
group who could be enticed into
seeing the film.
8. Q5: Would you see our film?
This question was used
to gauge the responses
of our audience based
upon age mainly and
despite having a wide
range of ages we
received a ‘yes’ from
hundred percent of
those who took part in
the questionnaire.
9. Q6: Do you think our film idea is
comical?
Like with the previous
question, we received
a ‘yes’ answer from
all participants, which
confirmed to us that
the comical tone of
the film was carried
across in the script
that was presented to
the participants.
10. Q7: What audience do you think our
film will attract?
There was a variety of
responses which
ranged from ‘ones
who think a bit more
than wanting a simple
bit of entertainment’ to
‘most people would
found that sort of
setting funny because
it’s a relatable setting’
11. Q8: What music do you think would be
suitable for our film?
To this question
people suggested
“discordant”, “high
tempo” and music with
high “pitch variation”
which I agree with as it
can add more tension
and more of a hectic
feeling in the latter
stages of the film.
12. Q9: What films do you like?
The respondents had a
wide variety of responses
ranging from thrillers and
hours to romance films,
comedies and animated
films like those that are
made by Pixar.
13. Q10: Would you watch our film?
This question showed that
our film does have the
wide appeal we were
aiming for as everyone
answered yes and they
are from different age
groups and have different
movie preferences.
14. Q11: What do you like about our film?
This final question showed
that people like the
exploration of psychological
aspects in the film and the
comedic tone that it conveys
and also that it deals with
these issues seriously but
keeps its comedic tone
throughout.
15. What we learned?
We learned that the concept
for the film was one that
would resonate with
audiences not matter what
their age or film preference.
We also listened to the
suggestions that were made
in the questionnaire and
changed certain parts of the
film during production and
post production i.e. the music
that we used.
16. Mid production questionnaire
We decided to do a questionnaire during production in order to
make sure the changes that we made was appropriate.
17. Do you think the music is
appropriate?
Eight out of ten people thought the music was appropriate,
some commented “yes, as it creates a happy vibe to something
that is potentially dark. This was in line with how we felt about
the music.

Nine out of ten people said they understood the plot, one said
“kind of, not sure why they’re suddenly talking to him.” This is
what we wanted to hear.
19. Is the main character relatable?
Five out of ten people related to the main character, with some
commenting “kind of relatable, the frustration you feel when
nobody believes you”. The frustration that this person feels is
something that we were aiming for.
20. Are there too few characters?
Three out of ten felt the film needed more human characters. “I
think more objects should talk, I think if there was more people
characters then plot the might be over the top and be lost”. We
felt that the number of human characters was okay due to the
plot.
21. Does the structure flow well?
Six out of ten agreed that the structure flowed well. With one
adding “kind of, the editing is a little jumpy”. This is something
that I personally disagreed with as I felt that there weren't any
“jumpy” parts of the film in regards to editing.
22. Is the film comical?
Six out of ten found the film comical. “It does contain elements
of humour, yes” this put to rest some worries we had in regards
to the films response.
23. Does the setting fit well with the
storyline?
Nine out of ten agreed that the setting suits the storyline. “Yes
as it’s a relatable environment” This matched with our
assumption when choosing the location at the beginning of pre
production.
24. Final Questionnaire
We once again decided to do a questionnaire, but this time on
the final film to gauge the reaction of the demographic.
25. Do you like our final film?
Nine out of ten said they did like our film, they said it was funny
and enjoyable to watch, one said they didn't like it as it was
strange and didn't like the concept.
26. Does our film make sense?
Nine out of ten said it does makes sense as long as you follow
the film without getting distracted. If you didn't watch the film
properly would get lost was also something that was
commented by one of the respondents.
27. Does our intro and outdo to our film
fit well?
All of the respondents said they liked the opening titles because
they fit well with the shots used and also the music i the
background. Also they all thought the closing credits was good
because of the suspense that played out before they played.

Eight out of ten said the music worked well with the film as it
was a light piece of music, they liked the music being played on
a ukulele as it was different to what they expected.

the objects talking?
Seven out of ten said the voices worked and it did give the
impression that the objects were the ones talking. The others
had mixed opinions with saying it wasn't realistic enough for
them to like.
30. What would you remove?
Eight out of ten said they wouldn't remove anything from the film
with the others saying they would change the way in which the
objects talked in the film.
31. What would you suggest we
improve?
Three people said they would try and make the objects more
realistic when talking, to try and make it look as if they were
actually talking rather than using voiceovers. Four said they
would add more humour, with the last three said they wouldn't
change anything.

concept.

because it was humorous but does have serious issues that are
underlying.
34. Do you like our production logo?

they didn't understand the company name and its connection to
the logo but that wasn't a big issue.
