3. The music video was constructed with choices
and decisions from all four members of the
group, therefore we had quite a lot of possible
ideas we had to evaluate and see which would
work best.
The light grey and white colour scheme was
not purposefully decided, the weather on our
filming days were just very cloudy and
overcast therefore the colours all fell into
place naturally.
We chose a rather modern and stylish
typography for the title of our music video to
fit it into the style of products nowadays in the
21st century. It was a popular choice amongst
the group as we also felt it made the video
look and feel professional.
The locations which we used in the music video were decided by all
of us as a group. The locations that were chosen allowed us to get
some really good establishing shots and drone shots of the cliffs
and sea. This gave us an abundance of shots to choose from when
we were in the editing process of our video and made it rather
challenging to decide what footage we were not going to use.
4. Both of the ancillary tasks; digipak and magazine advert were created
independently by myself and were influenced by the main main task,
the music video.
My digipak was constructed by all my own
ideas and inspirations from the music video.
I wanted to try and capture the relationship
between Alex and Jade but also at the same
time, focus on how Alex feels isolated and is
on his own.
I also used an establishing shot on the front
cover rather than an image of Alex as this is
how the music video starts; an establishing
shot at one of our locations.
My magazine advert was also designed and
created by my own ideas and influences
from the music video.
I used the same establishing shot that I
have used for the cover of my digipak to
make it look familiar and recognizable as
the same product.
I was also inspired by our music video to
add the rain layer over the top of my main
image. The weather was dry in our music
video, however, it was very overcast and
every so often when we were filming close
to the sea, we felt the spray off the waves
which gave me the idea to add the rain and
moistness to replicate the feeling of being
close to the sea.
5. Music Video Digipak Magazine Advert
Our most used location of Southerndown shown in the music video is also used for the cover of the digipak and magazine
advert. The same cliff can be seen in all the images. The beach path Alex walks down in the music video is the one seen on
the cover of the digipak and main image on the magazine advert.
6. Music Video Digipak Magazine Advert
The use of the sun and sunlight is something which connects all three tasks. The sun shining through the shot shown for the
music video is what influenced me to add something similar to my digipak and magazine advert. The image for the digipak
cover and main image of the album cover was actually taken on the same day as the shot for the music video, therefore,
the image is the same, just from a different angle. For the image of Alex and Jade on the digipak, I added a layer of a sunset
over the top of the image this creates a rather nostalgic feeling, suggesting that he is looking back at the relationship.
7. Music Video Digipak Magazine Advert
The use of typography is something which I have looked at across all three of my media texts. I have tried to choose a
typography that is not identical but one that is similar. I have used the same typography for the digipak and magazine
advert because the magazine advert is advertising the digipak, therefore, I wanted to make this look as noticeable as
possible. There was a different typography used for the music video title but it is similar as it is also rather stylish and
modern.
8. As the brief states, I have been creating a ‘promotional package for the release of a new album’, therefore, it is crucial that
my target audience will be able to identify my products easily and be able to link them all together from just seeing each
individual item.
I believe that I have achieved this by making products that are easily identifiable for the audience. My magazine advert has
features which show the audience exactly what the product has and is like.
An image of the
actual album
making it easily
identifiable
Clear indication
of the artist, just
like the actual
digipak cover.
Main image used
in all three
products
In my opinion, I think that all my products appeal to an
audience as real media products as they all have aspects
that link and this can easily been seen. This is what usually
happens with real media products that are produced, the
advertisements and/or covers and relatable to the actual
product and audience can see this.
9. Levi Strauss’ theory of binary opposition is prevalent across all three of my media texts.
Music Video Digipak Magazine Advert
In the music video, binary opposition is
achieved by placing a series of
contrasting shots after each other.
There is a shot of Alex & Jade, followed
by a shot of Alex on his own with a
blue, cold colour tint.
The digipak utilizes this theory
throughout the use of contrasting
images. There are a few images of Alex
on his own looking isolated, contrasted
with the image of him and Jade walking
up the mountain hand in hand. The
sunset effect layer also helps to
establish the fact that he is looking
back on the relationship.
Binary opposition is achieved in the
magazine advert through the layer of
rain which I added over the top of the
main cover image. It creates a contrast
of weathers creating an atmosphere
which matches the contrasting feelings
in the video.
