The document discusses how the student's media project uses and develops conventions of real music videos. It summarizes how the student's music video uses a variety of shots and unique camera techniques like green screen and shadows to retain viewer attention, while also developing conventions by adding more medium shots and portraying the artist as passionate about the music. It then compares the student's magazine advert and digipak to the music video by discussing how they maintain branding elements like neon colors and lasers to achieve professional, attention-grabbing designs that clearly identify the artist's genre.
2. How does your media product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media products?
Mise en scene:
Explanation:
Our music video have used a large variety of different base tracks, which
seems to be a common theme within the Pop Rock genre. I believe that
we have both used it, and developed this convection as instead of just
having simple location performance, we added unique shots. This
development was done because we wanted to represent our artist
quirky, and decided against having a dance within the video. By using a
variety of unique shots, I believe we were able to retain the attention of
the viewers. This affect was achieved by using green screen and shadow
manipulation. The main idea behind the Mise en Scene, was to attract
the audience to want and see more of the video as it continue.
3. Comparison to real music video:
The original video uses a lot of close up shots of the artist, and we
seem to follow the same theme. We didn’t want to be copying the
original video so we decided add more medium shots and make the
artist more “passionate about the music” The original video uses a
lot of lasers and bright blue lights. Originally we planned to also
include lasers, however we were usable to make enough usable
footage so we decided not to use it anyway. Even though our video
has some similarities to the original one, I believe the changes we
made along with the rebranding of the artist was successful.
4. Magazine advert
Colour correction:
The main convection that we have used
in our magazine advert is the colour
correction, which has allowed us to
create a really “popping” image. The
poster is really bright which attracts
a lot of attention, and would stand
out in the crown. We decided to stick
to the same neon colour and lasers as
were used in the digipak and video.
By using simplistic design and
appropriate font, we were able to
achieve a professional look. By
looking at the poster, you can clearly
identify the genre of the artist .
5. Digipak
While creating the digipak we
were trying to achieve a very
quirky and hyper-real feel to it.
We decided to follow the
theme which we established in
the video with all the different
neon colours and dim lighting.
By using the silhouette of the
artist we were able to achieve a
mysterious effect which clearly
shows style. You can easily
associate neon colours and
lasers to the artist as it has
strong branding.
