The purpose of my posters is to promote my campaign for my film called What The...?
DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT (GENRE & PLOT)
I am going to produce a film poster campaign for a supernatural horror film as part of the
promotional materials for my film What The...?
This is a film about the Richardsons (Ebony, the mother, Brayton, the father, Imani eldest
daughter and Orion, the youngest son) who are moving into a new house in the suburbs,
Orion has been offered to join a proper baseball team at better high school, the house
has been rumored to be haunted. During the night ghost figures of kids who are wearing
a baseball kit wander the corridors and keep whispering 'get out' 'do not let them feed on
you', there are also creaking, and scratching noises that are heard through the corridors
by the children, but the parents cannot see or hear any of this. When Orion meets his
baseball team, they all look freakishly the same but no one else seems to notice, but his
sister Imani does but tries to ignore it. They also have a neighbor who lives opposite, a
single white woman Sarah Miller with her son, Jason Miller who is part of the baseball
team they come across as nice neighbors to the Richardson family. However, Sarah
Miller comes off as suspicious as she keeps staring at the house and tries to break into
the house, but Brayton scares her away, not knowing who it was. Then Ebony and
Brayton Richardson go away for work leaving Imani in charge but her brother throws a
big party so he can fit in with his new baseball team. The whole of his year goes to this
party, and it is crazy. Suddenly Orion gets snatched by a group of kids and goes missing.
The sister then realizes and runs around the house trying to find him. Turns out the
entire baseball team took him down to the basement (which have demonic symbols on
the walls and floor) to feed on his soul, to make them stronger and they have been doing
this for years, luring fresh players onto their team then killing them and getting away with
it. Which then means that Sarah is innocent and has no clue what her son and the whole
team have done, and she was just sleepwalking this entire time. Just as the ritual is
about to finish the sister manages to stop the ritual by using her brother's baseball bat to
knock the team out. Then she carries her unresponsive brother and tries to get out of the
house it suddenly turns into a maze and the whole baseball team chase her, they look
pale, deep set bulging bloodshot eyes, their teeth are crooked, and they are snarling like

feral beasts. The sister escapes, but she accidentally knocks an alcohol bottle over and
a candle setting the whole house ablaze, trapping the whole baseball team inside. Once
they are out the sister tries to wake her brother up who looks half dead, just as she was
about to give up, he suddenly wakes up and looks at the burning house. The film ends
with the parents coming back to see the house on fire and they both say, 'What the...?'
The plot elements that I will feature in the poster are when Sarah Miller is staring outside
her window and when Imani is looking for her brother holding the baseball bat and when
Imani is in the crowd of people partying looking worried.
IMAGE LIST & BRIEF DESCRIPTION
For the teaser poster I will have a long shot of silhouette of a house with a silhouette of
Sarah miller staring through the window, I want the house to be taken at a low angle, so it
looks like the house is looking down on the audience.
Then for the theatrical poster where the protagonist is walking down the dimly lit corridor
with a baseball bat in their hand, will be a long shot meaning that you can see the
protagonist's whole body and the way they are holding the bat. The audience will not be
able to see what is in front of the protagonist as this will make it look more sinister and
mysterious and show that maybe the protagonist has no idea what lays ahead of them
For the quad poster I will have a mid-shot of Imani looking worried with a crowd of partying
people and blurred party lights behind her.
FONT LIST & BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The title of my film will be in Manticore brush font
Billing box will be in Universal Accreditation
Actor's names will be in Iron ranger font
The tagline will be in Exorcist - Horror Display Typeface font
TARGET AUDIENCE (AGE, GENDER, LIFESTYLE, INTERESTS, SPENDING
POWER)
My target audience are females and males ranging between the ages 15- to 30-year-olds.
They are also people of any background and sexuality, their manner of classes, whether it is
working class, middle class, or higher class. People who are genuinely interested in
supernatural horror films, plot twists and like trying to figure out who the antagonist of the
film is targeted. This is also for people who like to understand/work out the overall message
of the film, that anyone can be strong and that not everyone is good/kind because of their
looks or popularity.
DISTRIBUTION
3. POSTER CAMPAIGN PROPOSAL
Distribution is the method by which media products are delivered to audiences, including
the marketing campaign.
A poster is a good form of distribution to advertise films as they are quite easy for the public
to see whether they are on the street or in traffic as posters can be put everywhere and if they
are captivating it will catch someone’s eye and it will cover a wider audience meaning they
could gain more fans. It is also good as not everyone has access to the internet or social media
so using a form of traditional advertising
Also, because posters include catchy taglines, interesting images and actor's/director’s names
this will make it easier for the audience to remember. Also including actor's/director’s names
are a good selling point because if it is a famous and successful actor/director more people
will want to see it as they know it will already be of high quality. They also give a clear message
for the audience, watch the film or it could make them follow their social medias to make sure
they catch up on the latest updates about the film and when the teaser/official trailer comes
out. Posters also give a hint at what genre the film may be, depending on the colours, fonts,
picture that are used which will instantly finding their target audience, teens, adults, marvel
fans, horror fans etc.
Having a teaser poster is important to have as this gives a small insight into what the film
may be about or what genre it is going to be and the release date, it catches the audience's
attention and makes them want to know more. The theatrical poster then gives a little more
detail to the film, the names of a few of the actors the name of the director, if the people are
well known then this will be beneficial for the marketing of the film as more people will
want to see it if successful actors/director are part of the production. Then for the quad
poster it is bigger than the teaser and theatrical which means it will be quite easy to see
because of this. Also, all these posters will look different which makes them all important as
each poster is telling the audience something either about the setting, the
protagonist/antagonist, who lives or dies etc. Also, by doing more than one poster this it
causes the audience to try and predict the plot/ending of the film making them want to see
the film to see if they are correct.
Posters work with the trailers that are released. For example, my teaser poster would be
released just before the teaser trailer, by doing this it will catch the audience's attention
letting them know about the film then more people will know about the teaser trailer
because of the poster being released before hand. This will be same for my theatrical and
quad poster when the official trailer is released the posters are used to catch the audience’s
attention so that they know that a new film is coming out and make them want to see it.
POSITION IN THE MARKETPLACE
From my poster research I have learnt that in every poster there should be the title of the
film, release date, tagline, names of certain actors, sometimes the director's name and a
main image. For teaser trailers there should only be a main image along with title, tagline,
and the release date. Then for the theatrical and quad poster it should have all the
information, title, tagline, release date, director, main image, and billing block. Because of
this my posters will include these important bits of information to fit into the marketplace.
From researching supernatural horror posters, I have seen that the conventions of these
posters are that they are usually ominous and have a lot of negative space like the

Poltergeist poster, which will be reflected in my teaser poster. Also, I have seen that in some
horror posters like Insidious the colours are very dull and dark giving an eerie feeling to the
poster this will be reflected in my theatrical and teaser poster.
