2. Public Sector
Public sectors are identified as facilities that’s
main priority is to serve the community to
enhance the quality of life and well-being
(Lunn, 2021). Characteristics to identify a
public sector are taxpayer revenue, with some
including user fee’s, recreation creativity such
as art and fitness (Lunn, 2021). Public sectors
also play many important economic roles that
can affect our community such as providing
jobs to our locals that stimulate the economy
(Lunn, 2021).
3. Public Sector

SPSC 2210
Connection

Public Sector
This is a public sector as it does not cost money
for children to attend and enhances the quality of
life of its students (Lunn, 2021).
Physical Education- This is a physical education
example because it is described as “promoting health
and well-being through recreation and sport” (Lunn,
2021, p. 4). This promotion of health is available to all
youth in the community with no cost of utilizing its
facility.

Public Sector
This is a public sector as it is a value to the society
because “it reinforces values that help maintain a
healthy lifestyle” (Lunn, 2021, p. 3).
SPSC 2210
Connection
Recreation- This is a recreational example because recreation
is described as parks have a clientele to the general public
with no fees to pay (Lunn, 2021). This park has many fields
that can cater to a variety of sports and recreation with free
space that promotes fitness and creativity open 7 days a week
to whomever.

6. Commercial
Sector
Commercial sectors can be identified by more
of the business appeals it brings for the
community. Commercial sector recreation is
quoted as “recreation for which the consumer
pays and for which the supplier expects to
make a profit” (Lunn, 2021, p. 6). Commercial
recreation is still very beneficial to a
community as it creates employment
positions, adds recreational variety and
increases home values (Lunn, 2021).
7. Commercial
Sector
Example #1
BC Prep
Address 15358 67 Ave Unit 107, Surrey, BC V3S 7C6
Commercial
Sector
This is a commercial sector as it provides specific recreation
that must be paid for in order to use their facility. It has also
created employment opportunities and increased local
businesses around the area.
SPSC 2210
Connection
Recreation- This is a recreational example because provincial
government guidelines define that “ to stimulate the
economic development through leisure” (Lunn, 2021, p. 4).
This facility provides private training specialized in youth
basketball, fitness and soccer for the public community at
high fees. This facility also stimulates the economy as it
employs trainers for it’s specified skill development.

8. Commercial
Sector
Example #2
Surrey Christian School Secondary
Address 15353 92 Ave, Surrey, BC V3R 1C3
Commercial
Sector
This is a commercial sector as it is identified as their
clientele send their children to this school are doing so at a
cost that benefits the organization (Lunn, 2021).
SPSC 2210
Connection
Physical Education- This is a physical education example
because recreation is only being provided to those who
are willing to pay the schools tuition fees (Lunn, 2021).
Surrey Christian also affects the economy as more
residents are likely to move here since private schools are
more exclusive, which ultimately drives up the home
prices around the community.

9. Commercial
Sector
Example #3
Landmark Cinemas (Guildford)
Address 15051 101 Ave, Surrey, BC V3R 7Z1
Commercial
Sector
This is a commercial sector as to enjoy this recreation
and the facility, there must be an admission paid for.
SPSC 2210
Connection
Recreation- This is a recreation example because it
falls under one of the three types of recreation which
is “indoor commercial recreation” (Lunn, 2021). This
facility is open to the general public and is great for a
social night with family to whomever will pay the
admission fees for their exclusive new movies.

10. Voluntary
Sector
The voluntary sector or “non-profit” is a vital
part of the community as it usually has its own
members giving their time for service and
keeping the community strong (Lunn, 2021).
Characteristics of this sector are identified by
the profit generations which are just enough
to cover costs and it focuses on fundraising to
invest in their leisure and recreation
programs/facilities (Lunn, 2021).
11. Voluntary
Sector
Example #1
YMCA (Basketball)
Address Various elementary schools across
Surrey.
Voluntary
Sector
This is a voluntary sector as the proceeds to
participate in the league all go to essential costs
(referee, gym rental) and that is one of the most
important characteristic of this sector (Lunn,
2021).
SPSC 2210
Connection
Coaching- This is a coaching example because all the
coaches that are hired are not receiving any financial
gain and often league fees can be subsidized based off
the financial situations. This falls under the category
“athletics and sports” as this league focusing on
investing in the future, (youth) invest in leisure and
rely on members (coaches) (Lunn, 2021).

12. Voluntary
Sector
Example #2
Jumpstart Youth Program
Address Various elementary schools around Surrey.
Voluntary
Sector
This is a voluntary sector because of the opportunity it
allows people in the community to be apart of such as
youth fitness for no profit.
SPSC 2210
Connection
Coaching- This is a coaching example because of the
requirements it meets such as heavy assistance it requires from
the community as coaching students on various sports and
games is volunteer work with no financial gain (Lunn, 2021). It
also relies on donations through its sponsorship with Canadian
Tire. This program is free to the children after schools, it is an
excellent way to give back to the community and impact the
youth as I experienced firsthand volunteering for this program!

13. Voluntary
Sector
Example #3
R.E.C. For Kids Society
Address 13379 - 68 AVENUE SURREY BC V3W 2E8 CA
Voluntary
Sector
This is a voluntary sector as it relies on donations to
keep sufficient and relies on volunteers in the
community for their staff.
SPSC 2210
Connection
Recreation- This is a recreation example as it allows children
from all over utilize their facility in sports and leisure, they do
not have the luxury of playing for their own. This organization
relies on used equipment and volunteers to strive. More
importantly this is a clear investment in recreation and in youth
around the community to promote a healthy lifestyle and
wellbeing which are all attributes for voluntary sectors (Lunn,
2021).
