• Connection: recreation
• Newton library is an example of a public sector
because "the geographic community is the focal
point for recreation activity" (Lunn, 2021, pg.6). In
addition, the library is located right in the heart of
Newton, which is a place for the community to
gather (Lunn, 2021, pg. 5).
• Newton library connects to recreation “because of
its nature continually [reinforcing] values and
ideals of establishing and maintaining a healthy
lifestyle to the user” (Lunn, 2021, pg. 3). The
library also “[provides] opportunities for both
genders, all age groups, all ethnic groups, and
special interest groups” (Lunn, 2021, pg.5).

• Connection: recreation
• Crescent beach is part of the public sector because it
is a public beach, meaning that all is welcomed there.
Additionally, it is free to the public and it is owned and
serviced by the government (E. Lunn, personal
communication, November 29, 2021).
• Crescent beach connects to recreation because it
“[provides] those opportunities deemed valuable by
society” (Lunn, 2021, pg. 3). In addition, it is a free
thing do, allowing access for every clientele, even
disadvantage ones (Lunn, 2021, pg. 3). Arial of Crescent Beach. (City of Surrey, 2021).

Connection: recreation
• Serpentine Fen is part of the public sector
because it is run by the government and it is
situated in the geographic community (Lunn,
2021, pg. 5-6). Since it is a walking trail and bird
viewing area, it “[promotes] health and well-being
through recreation…” (Lunn, 2021, pg.4)
• Serpentine Fen connects to recreation because it
“[promotes] the preservation, protection, and
enjoyment of natural resources” (Lunn, 2021, pg.
4). By being outdoors and in a calm area, it
“[creates] cohesive and quality communities”
(Lunn, 2021, pg. 5)

• Connection: coaching, recreation
• Anytime fitness is part of the private sector because
"consumer[s] pays and for which the supplier expects to
make a profit” (MacLean, Peterson, & Martin, 1985, p. 220,
as cited in Karlis, 2011, p. 79. As cited in Lunn, 2021, p. 6).
In other words, the members pay a monthly fee and the
money paid goes towards the owner of the gym.
• There is connection to coaching and recreation because they
offer personal training and group training to the members
(coaching aspect), which is a specialized service. It connects
to recreation because it ”[increases] recreation opportunities
for residents” (Lunn, 2021, pg. 7)

• Connection: coaching, physical education,

• LIVE WELL Exercise clinic is in the private sector
because it is individually owned and is "aware of
social trends and demographics" (Lunn, 2021, pg.
8). For instance, the demographic in this area is
mainly seniors, so the company has catered the
clinic to target the older population. The clinic has a
specialized service (Lunn, 2021, pg. 6), which is to
make programs that are individualized.
• There is a connection to all three categories
because there are kinesiologist there that help
coach the members through their programs and
helps them progress based on their needs. The
clinic also fills the ”consumer desire” (Lunn, 2021,
pg. 6) by promoting education on a healthy
lifestyle.

• Connection: (physical) education
• Ecole Gabrielle Roy falls under the private sector
because it is a private school. Since it is a private
school, the focus clientele is a "specific market group"
(Lunn, 2021, pg. 7). In addition, it is specialized
because the school is all in French as their primary
language. The school has an annual fee in order to
attend, meaning that the service is "provided for a
cost" (Lunn, 2021, pg.6)
• There is a connection to physical education because
there is “high level training [and] specialized service”
(Lunn, 2021, pg.6) when the students are in their
physical education class. In addition, there are
sponsorships (Lunn, 2021, pg. 7.), which a part will go
towards the physical education program.

• Surrey United Soccer Club is under the non-profit
sector because it is "good for society/community"
(Lunn, 2021, pg. 8). The club is in a specific
community where those who live in the community
can join if they would like. It is also not limited to a
certain population (Lunn, 2021, pg. 9).
• There is a connection to all three categories
because having volunteer coaches and promoting
youth to play soccer is “good for
society/community” (Lunn, 2021, pg. 8); the
organization “[relies] on members” (Lunn 2021, pg.
10) in order to run successfully. In addition, each
team “[focuses] on fundraising” (Lunn, 2021, pg.
10), which is a potential coaching and recreation

• Connection: recreation
• R.E.C for Kids fall under the non-profit sector
because they reply on members, focuses on
fundraising (Lunn, 2021, pg. 10), and gathers
gently used equipment to give out to kids who
cannot afford to buy sporting goods. The funds that
are brought into this society, goes right back into
helping the community.
• There is a connection to recreation because there
is a “focus on fundraising” (Lunn, 2021, pg. 10), in
order to get used equipment so more kids can play.
There is a “target [to] specific age cohorts” (Lunn,
2021, pg. 10), which determines what equipment is
appropriate to donate for recreation use. R.E.C For
Kids is considered “critically important for
addressing the needs of society, including leisure

• The SWRRA falls under the non-profit sector
because the clientele would be the general public
and those who decide to go will generally
"formalize into a registered society" (Lunn, 2021,
pg. 9). In addition, the association would
“engage/target specific age cohorts” (Lunn, 202,
pg. 10), which would be the different teams based
on age.
• There is a connection to coaching and recreation
because the coaches are all volunteers, and they
are coaching “the group who establish interest”
(Lunn, 2021, pg. 9). The players in the “local
communities”(Lunn, 2021, pg.9) are there because
they wants to play and use this sport as their form
of recreation. The association offers this to the
community starting in September, running to
March, making it a seasonal recreation sport and
runs successfully based on the amount of demand
