2. Research
I feel that my research for my magazine was good as it gave me a clear
direction into what I want to make, who for and how I am going to design it.
Also the research helped with the layout as I knew what I wanted it to be
matched with. Having the preparation for the layout helped with the actual
making of the product as I knew what I needed to do for it to turn out well.
The weaknesses is that I only covered certain aspects of my magazine rather
than all of it. So I only talked about how I am going to layout my text and the
background I am going to use, and the colours which would work together.
These are useful parts to the magazine but talking about what fonts I could
use or how I am going make the title or article intriguing so people look at the
magazine and want to read it. I think this would effect my magazine in a good
way because I could find which way is the best way to showcase the article on
the front page to catch peoples eye.
3. Planning
The strengths of my planning was that I had a clear idea of the colour scheme
and them I wanted to use for my magazine. Also I went with my schedule that
I made for the magazine and it worked out the way I wanted it to, so having
that schedule helped with the overall time management. My mood board
helped with the overall colour scheme I would used even though I changed
topics so having the knowledge of what colour I would be using helped with
how I layed out my text. The weaknesses of my planning was that it was very
simple and not complex so, I only had a brief idea of what I needed to do for
the magazine but for me it worked but for a plan it didn’t look very helpful
even though it was. Having a more complex plan would help with my product
as I could have a guide through the whole process and it would of made
production easier to do.
4. Time Management
I think that I managed my time well for the production as I managed to finish
my magazine with a full week for the evaluation and production reflection.
This means that I could improve my magazine once I did the PowerPoints
which would be useful if I was behind on anything. So far I have handed in
everything on time and am able to improve anything as I have more time
tomorrow for anything that I feel like I want to improve. If I had more time I
would make sure my magazine would have more to it, such as pages so that it
had more to it rather than just two pages.
5. Technical Qualities
The similarities are that the advert has its own page to showcase the product
and that it has some text on the other page. I was basing my double page off
of this but I didn’t want to fully copy the style, so I decided to make it more
informative than simple. The differences are that it is one picture for the left
magazine rather than two different pictures for each page. I like the style of
the one picture for two pages but I couldn’t find or have a picture that would
look good for the two pages. So I tried to get similar in colour photos next to
each other so they at least look good next to each other.
6. Aesthetic Qualities
For the front cover of my magazine, I think that my design works and looks good which
would attract people to it. It is simple but the colours work with the hard white border
which makes the photo in the middle pop out a little more. I like the sunset colours
which work with the guy I put in surfing as the sun looks like it is reflecting off his
wetsuit and board. This adds some realism into the photo even though it is edited. I like
the way it has turned out so personally I wouldn’t improve it but that doesn’t mean it is
perfect. For a magazine cover, the weaknesses are probably the pricing on the side of
the magazine, it doesn’t look professional and it is a bit off. Also the writing isn't as good
as I hoped it to be, but it still works with the picture and makes it more like a magazine
front cover.
7. Audience Appeal
For my target audience I would say that I have appealed to them, as the magazine is
suited for all kinds of surfers and the main aspect of the magazine is just nice photos
and colours of the ocean. The specific parts of the magazine I feel would appeal to the
target audience is the front cover and the information. For beginners the information
would be good for them as it useful advice on how to start and what to do to begin
surfing. Also surfers that are more experienced would enjoy the front cover because it
is someone getting barreled in a sunset, so people will want to know where it is so
that they could maybe go to that place or just see who the surfer is. That is something
I enjoy seeing and one of the reasons I pick up a surfing magazine is to see where the
waves are and who is surfing it.
