Rationale:
My previous and most similar production to what I am going to make would be my first FMP as it
was a sports trailer in a different country. This trailer was a surfing journey trailer as I tried to
capture that I was traveling to find waves which unfortunately didn’t happen because there were no
waves in Thailand when I went to visit. So, I had to get surf footage in England and try passing it
on as it was Thailand but I managed to get some really nice videos of underwater animals and
plants which made really nice cutscenes during the trailer. With this experience I think that I will be
more prepared for the next time I try to make a sports trailer which I am doing for this FMP. I am
going to Norway to ski/snowboard so I will remember the mistakes I made in the first one such as
not having a backup plan and also different approaches to the research part of the video.
Project Concept:
The concept of my project is a skiing and snowboarding trailer which will be taking place in Norway
during the February half term which will give me the video a lot earlier than most people during the
FMP time. Until I do some primary and secondary research I will be deciding what and what effects
I am going to be adding into my video because it could vary a lot due to the type of skier or
snowboarder I talk to because there is something big differences in what people enjoy watching
and doing in the sport. As I said in my rationale, I think primary research would be my best option
of research because I know some skiers and snowboarders so having the people from different
parts of the sport and also with the knowledge they have they could help with my understanding on
how filming works within the sport and also what I should be capturing so that I can have the most
entertaining trailer I can possibly make with my time in Norway. So primary will help with the
contents within my trailer but secondary research will help how I layout my trailer and the shots I
use during the video because it can vary and also capturing emotion is something I am wanting to
showcase because it helps with setting the mood for the video and I see a lot of that in every video
I have watched while doing my FMP theory.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I am going to be evaluating my work based on how accurate I planned it to be so if I planned to get
at least 5 different types of angles and shots then I will be judging if I have done so within my
finished trailer and things like that. Production reflections will be the easiest to do because I will
have a fresh mind on what I have done during the week and I can make a in depth reflection of
what I need to do and what I have done. I think this process will help making this trailer better
because I will be able to work on what I missed out or did wrong last year and incorporate the
correct things into this trailer. But it will also help with my future videos or trailers because I will
have a bigger understanding on how different types of trailers work and I will be able to develop
and learn even further into the subject for next time in my media year.
