This reflective journal entry discusses the student's first week working on their Final Major Project (FMP) trailer about skiing and snowboarding. In the first week, the student focused on researching three key people or companies in the sport. They note that gaining background knowledge will help focus their further research and help them understand what elements to include. The student worries about their lack of skiing experience making it hard to film other skiers. However, they have skills like editing videos to match lighting and styles from prior projects. Areas to develop include improving skiing ability to focus on filming and analyzing successful ski/snowboard videos and trailers to create an engaging product.

3. Week 1
For week 1 I focused on my FMP theory which I researched 3 people or companies who are a big part to the sport I
am going to be focusing on in my trailer. So this first week has mainly been for me and my knowledge of what I am
going to be making. This part of the FMP is important to me because it is letting me get some knowledge in the topic
before I fully start the research which means that I can start research in a better way because I will know what I
want to research and also what I need to get out of the research because there are a lot of elements in the topic I
am doing. I have a few worries going into this project because unlike the surf film I know that I can surf to a standard
which isn’t bad to watch and my brother is a really good surfer that could make the clips interesting and pass off as a
real surfer in a movie. Whereas for the snowboarding and skiing trailer, I haven’t snowboarded in a long time and I
have never skied which means I am going to need to learn quickly so that I can keep up and film the other skiers.
Luckily my friend in a good skier who goes often and can take care of themselves which I can try and record in
different ways while he is going down the path or mountain. Because I have made a trailer before I have learned
different types of editing to go with the videos such as making all the clips look similar such as if it is a little bit
darker on a day because there is clouds blocking the sun I can edit it to make it look a little bit more vibrant so that it
doesn’t look out of place compared to the clips because it may be sunny on other days. I have also done visual
effects such as a 3d effect which pulls out different colours from different things which makes it super trippy, I have
also done VHS editing with exposure and green screens and I have done key framing text and objects such as the
Super Saiyan effect over a UFC fighter in a video. All these little editing skills can be helpful with different things or
help with different paths I want to take while making the video. I would say the areas I need to develop in is
definitely the actual skiing part of the video which I am hopefully going to get used to in the first or second day so
that I can focus on the filming part while doing it. Also I am going to need to analyse all the aspects and angles ski
and snowboarding videos and trailers include so that it feels professional and also has a lot of content which is
interesting for the viewer and lets them keep invested into the video so that they would want a real movie coming.
