1. Proposal
I will be working in film/photography for the factual project.
I have never made a factual type of video which gives history behind certain buildings or
areas. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t made something similar which includes text on
the screen or small adjustments to the video to make it suitable to showcase what I’m
giving history about. I have edited videos to make the suit the whole video, such as if
some are darker than others or brighter than others, I can fix the volume of it to match
the other videos and making it fit together which helps the overall look of the video. I
have also done text on the screen where I made an introduction to my surf trailer and
also an outro using text so I will be able to do that without needing to waste time by
watching videos on how to do it. I have done these techniques both during my surf
trailer that I did for my FMP last year which I was proud of making because I thought it
was well filmed and put together and it was more fun than work.
I am going to be making a short factual video on the history of York and its old buildings
which gain a lot of attractions yearly. The two main buildings I will be researching and
talking about will be the Minster and Clifford’s tower. There will only be small edits going
into the video because I don’t want to take away from the videos of the buildings which
is supposed to make the building look as good as possible while reading the facts. So, I
will mainly do colour correcting or cutting certain things out which I don’t want in the
video. I want the text to be easy to read but long enough so that I can get the fact across
without needing a bunch of sentences to complete it and waste video time because I
have around 45 seconds for each building or scenario. The people watching this will most
likely be a older or a very young audience that needs information or wants to learn about
the place before going to it, so having this video neutral to each type of person will be
my aim because I am going for a relaxed video where people don’t need to fully
concentrate on the video but still gets enough information from it and has learned
something. The weather shouldn’t fully affect the footage as I am going to be recording
different areas of the buildings and if it a bit dark, I can always edit it.
The way I am going to evaluate my work will be the accuracy of how I wanted to do it at
the beginning and see if I changed anything that made the final product better or worse.
Also, I am going to evaluate the text speed and if I can read it at different paces and see
if it will work for different types of viewers such as slow, normal and fast readers.
Because not everyone will be able to read at the same rate so having the option to help
all readers would be better than none.
