2. Factual Project
TECHNIQUE: When you see the object/person you have text with facts
of the area/person come up next to them or you can make the text look
like stats which come up on different areas of the body/object
IDEA: Look at old landmarks in York or different cities/villages and talk
about the history of them
IDEA: Surfing
IDEA: Skateboarding
IDEA: Global Warming
IDEA: Crime
TECHNIQUE: Narrator talks over the footage talking about facts about
what is happening and how it has become this overtime
IDEA: Basketball
3. With a lot of factual videos they always have some sort of
animation or picture that represents what they are saying to
communicate the point or fact very clearly to the viewer and it
also creates a picture in the viewers head. This would be easy to
do because I can get a green screen version of what I need to
visualize my facts or I can make them using Photoshop and
create something that is easy to look at and understand.
I have seen a lot of quick transitions in factual videos also
because they are trying to get a lot of information about
something so using a visual motion which connects with how the
person is talking feels like you can almost see what they are
saying. Also they show a lot of images when talking about new
facts so it could intertwine with another fact so when they
change topic suddenly, it could show a completely different
image for the duration of the fact.
4. Dan Mace
Age: 26
Born: Cape Town, South Africa
Since the age of 16 Dan Mace has been professionally working behind the camera and
has over 100 music videos, documentaries and short films under his belt. Dan Mace
has also created a very popular YouTube series which is called the “not normal show”.
This encourages people with passions to plant a seed on a map he has put on his
website and he will pick a random seed and fly to that location and meet the creator
to document the idea together and give it attention which could lead to big changes.
Such as showing that big companies like old navy and gap are being a big contributor
to damaging the earth with single use plastics and not taking responsibility for what
they are doing. His videos consist of a lot of visual editing while he is speaking which
makes you hypnotized in his video because they are such a high quality edit and are
timed really well with his voice and makes it a lot easier to understand what he is
saying. He doesn’t really do long time lapses in his videos and uses more quick
transitions that let a lot of information out at once but saying this, he adds slow build
ups before people speak such as when they had a long shot of him and someone
sitting down which had only ambient sounds then he pull outs his camera which
switches to a close up shot on the person who is speaking which adds suspense.
5. UFC is the Ultimate Fighting Championship that is a very popular
company that showcases the highest standard of Mixed Martial Arts
have released a bunch of documentaries about fighters such as GSP
(Georges St-Pierre), Chuck Liddell, Connor McGregor, Michael Bisping
and many more. The documentary's vary from a length of 10-15 minutes
to 40+ minutes which are mainly focused on different people talking
about the fighter or they are talking about their whole career and up
bringing. I watched GSP’s and Chuck Liddell’s documentary's because
they were the shortest and they are some of the biggest names in the
sport and also some of my favourite fighters. They are edited really well
with a mix of old clips of them training and fighting or in GSP’s
documentary you had actors playing his childhood memories. These cut
scenes gave the story life because you could see and feel what they
went through to get to where they are and they are really made well
and they treat UFC fans allowing them to see everything their favourite
fighters/role models had to go through.
6. Background Research
For this project I am going to need to do a lot of background research on
the history of York because there is a lot of medieval and interesting
buildings and areas which had a big affect in the history of York such as
Clifford's tower and the wall surrounding York. Battles and wars are
going to be the main topics of my video as they are the most interesting
part of history in my opinion. So I am going to be focusing on where,
why and what happened during these times which would of shaped the
outcome of York and how it was turned into the thriving area it is
nowadays. The Viking era will also be a big part of my video because
that is my favourite era and the one I may know most about when it
comes to some type of history. Getting images of the facts will also be a
needed part to my video because I want to showcase visual facts as it
makes the viewer more interested with the video because they can see
the change and have more of an understanding with what I am trying to
show.
7. Existing Product
A video called 48 Hours In York | UNILAD Adventure on YouTube
showcases everything you can do in York within 48 hours. They begin
with having a slowed down montage of the inside of York and also long
shots of all of York's main landmarks such as the minster and Clifford's
tower. They also showed the time in the bottom left which indicates and
helps people plan out their journey in York and also gives them a
estimate on how long each place will take to fully enjoy and look
around. They also gave a brief description and showed the name of the
areas/landmarks they were at with some text at the beginning of every
new place which helps people understand the rough concept of each
area. They also had someone talk over the video and they gave a deeper
understanding and information about each area and some history
behind it to attract people to go there. I will be using elements of this
video with showcasing long and close shots so that I get a variety of clips
to show the audience and show more information on different areas.
