Evaluation Question 7
1. EVALUATION QUESTION
7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
2. Looking back on my preliminary task, I have learnt a lot on how to try and create a
professional looking magazine. Whilst editing the main image for my preliminary task I had
trouble getting it to fit without stretching it, and did not edit the lighting or contrast etc. I didn’t
change very many things about it apart from the size. I didn’t spend as much time thinking about
different fonts or matching the house style so it looks a bit mis-matched. My school magazine
looks unprofessional. However with my main task (music magazine) I edited the brightness and
contrast well, added lighting effects, changed the picture size but managed to keep the
proportions the same so it didn’t look stretched. I also specifically picked the font and house
style to match the genre of my magazine and make it look more professional. On my contents
and double page spread I created logos to make it more authentic and added more magazine
conventions than I did in my preliminary task to make it more of a believable music magzine.
3. By looking at similar magazine styles to my own, I noticed popular
conventions that most rock magazines seemed to have. I then used
this to give me ideas of what to use in my own magazine to make it
seem more real and more similar to actual magazines sold today. An
example of this is the colours I used (red white and blac) which are
similar to ‘Q’ magazine’s house colours. I also used a similar edgy font
to try and match it.
4. At the beginning of the year I did not feel comfortable with the editing tools (especially
photoshop) or using a blog. This has all changed now after using it for so long and I can now
confidently use the tools I need to, to make my blog look as good as possible.I liked using the
blog and found it was a good simple way so show ideas and progress.. I did find extremely
difficult at first and I still don't feel reallu confident still, but it is a lot better and was very useful
working with them in creating my magazine.
I have learnt that audiences and magazines are connected and that the magazines publishing
company is looked into in great detail. I have also learnt about camera techniques and the effects
they have as well as editing photos. I know how significant the photo is on the magazines and
how it has to portray the audiences in a certain way and connect properly. I feel like I have learnt
what conventions to use to make a magazine look authentic and to match a specific audience.
5. There is also a big difference in the way my first draft at a school
magazine looks to the final product of my music magazine. This
shows my progression.
