Working Title:
Tubular
Audience:
My audience can be anyone who surfs or is interested in surfing. There isn't any certain age or
gender as there is a lot of variety of surfers which would be a good aspect for a magazine because
it will have more sales. Less experienced surfers would probably be more likely to pick up the
magazine as they could look for tips or the best way to start surfing such as the board they should
use. The reason my magazine would appeal to any age or gender surfer is because they all like
surfing and a magazine about the sport the like would make them want to read it. Also, it will be a
clear magazine so even if you are young you will be able to understand what the information says,
and it is useful to anyone who reads it.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
My progress through the year will help as I am more knowledgeable with photoshop and this will
help with the design and construct of my magazines final look. Certain skills will make the design
quicker as I know what they do. My magazine experiment was about marine animal life which in
some ways could help my surfing magazine. This is because the water shots will need the same
font colour so that it stands out more so people can read it and the colour scheme will also be very
similar.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept of my magazine will be about surfing, so it will include boards, tips and safety while
surfing. This will be more about beginners wanting to learn more about the sport but also seeing
cool images of big waves and waves being shredded. I will also make the magazine look bright
and simple so that it is easy to read but you can clearly see what is going on. The research I will
need to look into is the etiquette of surfing, so people go into the line-up knowing what to expect
and what to avoid while they are surfing. Also, the research will include other surf magazines and
how they show images of people and the advertisements of certain products. So, I will be getting
ideas of different layouts to put into the magazine to make it as good as possible for the final copy.
Pictures will be hard to get if I want them to be original as surfing isn’t that frequent so getting there
often is hard and getting good pictures is hard also. So original photos and non-original photos will
have to be used for the magazine.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I will try evaluate my magazine on the style I finish with and how effective it is for the reader and I
will also compare it to other surf magazines to see if it is similar to a popular magazine as that will
help with knowing if it would interest people if they saw it.
