Men’s health magazine is a fitness magazine aiming to get men to
exercise. The magazine is infested with big bold fonts, sharp colours
and get fit quick guides. The audience profile of this magazine
states that the average age of the reader is 25-44. If you look at the
front cover you can see subtitles saying ‘ junk food that’s good for
you’ and ‘sculpt stronger shoulders in 5 minutes’ Being around
these ages you are normally very busy with work and you don’t
have time to fit long hour fitness sessions in. This is why Men’s
Health are adding all these quick fit guides to intrigue people who
don’t have a lot of time. Also if you look at the model he looks like
he’s got a good shape and this will attract attention as people will
think this magazines got tips in it that ca transform me into the man
on the cover.
Men’s Health – audience profile
Fine gardening is a magazine packaged with ideas and photos to
inspire your imagination. This magazine is made for people who
have a lot of time on their hands. The mean age for this
magazine Is 62. This means that the people reading this
magazine have a lot of time on their hands so they can garden.
At the ages of 62 your coming into retirement and you want
something to do with your spare time. This magazine uses
headlines like ‘JAZZ up your containers’ people who read this
magazine are older so words like jazz It up and things relate to
older generations that like jazz music.

Here I have a fitness magazine called Muscle And Fitness UK. Firstly the first
impressions you make of this design is that its very bold and in your face. If you
look at the title you can see that it’s a very masculine, bold and chunky font. This
instantly gives off that masculine vibe and I believe this will be more aimed at men
then woman as men would be more attracted to this. Also you have a very muscly
male on the front. This Is also an indication that the magazine is more aimed at
men. If you look at the colour scheme to can see that the colours chosen a
masculine also. Using colours like red, blue, yellow, black and white on a grey
looking background adds that masculine look.
Looking at the text and the way they are talking you can see that they are trying to
draw you in. ‘Get wide now’ and ’Transform yourself in 3 weeks’ are trying to make
you believe that you can look good in no time at all. This magazine will have been
design for people who don’t have a lot of time on their hands. For example people
who have full time jobs. Id say this magazine will age around 29 to 50. The reason
for this being when you’re around those ages you are very busy with work and
children. Also the designers have included text saying ‘move better at any age’
Using a young muscly man on the front of the page also makes the audience idolize
that and they might think they will look like that if they read the magazine.
Here we have a gardeners magazine. This is completely
different to the fitness magazine. Straight away you can
clearly see its very soft and colourful. It’s a gardeners
magazine and it clearly shows that by including lots of
green colour. This magazine will be made for elderly
people who have lots of time on their hands. It includes
persuasive text stating that you can get free plants and
saying ‘never kill a plant again’ This will attract the
audience and it will attract people who may not have
much money to spend. Its also giving you lots of Tips that
are easy to accomplish. I think this is important because
when you’re elderly you may fined it hard to complete
tasks because of restrictions due to you being of an old
age.
Layout/captions/anchoring
This is a double page spread article in the fitness
magazine. Here you can clearly see the layout is quick
and easy to read. This is good as the audience may not
have a lot of time on their hands. The reason for it being
easy to read is that it has been set out in five quick
steps. Laying out an article in steps separates the text
and it makes the article easier and more enjoyable to
read. I also like the fact that the designer has highlighted
the sub headings of the steps red. This helps the reader
understand each step and it’s then up to the reader to
read the detail about the step underneath. Highlighting
it in red brings out the text on the page, which makes it
even easier to read. The designer has included a picture
of a very muscly male to enhance the fact that you could
look like that if you followed the five steps. The colours
chosen again fit the masculine theme running
throughout as this magazine is clearly aimed at men.
Choosing colours like yellows, blacks, reds makes the
text stand out on the white background of the page.
Another good thing the designer has done is labeling
the body parts on the male matching it the the steps on
the text. This allows for a much more easy to read and it
makes it more entertaining read.
This is a double page spread I have found in the gardening
magazine I am looking at. On these pages you can see that it’s a
step by step. This article compared to the fitness magazine looks
I lot softer. There isn't any big bold in your face text, its all at
quite a small size. The only bits of text that are different is the
headline ‘How to divide a houseplant’ and the ‘step by step’
text. The layout overall is set out so you can see clearly what's
going on in the pictures and its engaging you first to look at the
pictures so you get drawn into the rest of the article. I think this
is effective as it intrigues the viewer into knowing what all of
these interesting images are about. The audience for this
magazine is more aimed at the elderly so the designers have
included images of an elderly man working with this plant. This
Is good as it relates to them, you wouldn't want to be using a
young adult handling the plant as they may think they’ll want
someone with more experience with more maturity to be
showing them what to do.
The designer has also included a caption at the bottom right.
This helps give more information about the image to the
audience. The designer has used words like ‘beautiful’ in the
caption. This enhances more interest to the image and the
reader may be persuaded to carry out this step by step if they
haven't already.

The magazine is infested with big bold fonts, sharp colours and get fit quick guides. The audience profile of this magazine states that the average age of the reader is 25-44. If you look at the front cover you can see subtitles saying ‘ junk food that’s good for you’ and ‘sculpt stronger shoulders in 5 minutes’ Being around these ages you are normally very busy with work and you don’t have time to fit long hour fitness sessions in. This is why Men’s Health are adding all these quick fit guides to intrigue people who don’t have a lot of time. Also if you look at the model he looks like he’s got a good shape and this will attract attention as people will think this magazines got tips in it that ca transform me into the man on the cover.

  • 4. Fine gardening is a magazine packaged with ideas and photos to inspire your imagination. This magazine is made for people who have a lot of time on their hands. The mean age for this magazine Is 62. This means that the people reading this magazine have a lot of time on their hands so they can garden. At the ages of 62 your coming into retirement and you want something to do with your spare time. This magazine uses headlines like ‘JAZZ up your containers’ people who read this magazine are older so words like jazz It up and things relate to older generations that like jazz music.
  • 5. Comparison of the front cover and pages
  • 7. Here I have a fitness magazine called Muscle And Fitness UK. Firstly the first impressions you make of this design is that its very bold and in your face. If you look at the title you can see that it’s a very masculine, bold and chunky font. This instantly gives off that masculine vibe and I believe this will be more aimed at men then woman as men would be more attracted to this. Also you have a very muscly male on the front. This Is also an indication that the magazine is more aimed at men. If you look at the colour scheme to can see that the colours chosen a masculine also. Using colours like red, blue, yellow, black and white on a grey looking background adds that masculine look. Looking at the text and the way they are talking you can see that they are trying to draw you in. ‘Get wide now’ and ’Transform yourself in 3 weeks’ are trying to make you believe that you can look good in no time at all. This magazine will have been design for people who don’t have a lot of time on their hands. For example people who have full time jobs. Id say this magazine will age around 29 to 50. The reason for this being when you’re around those ages you are very busy with work and children. Also the designers have included text saying ‘move better at any age’ Using a young muscly man on the front of the page also makes the audience idolize that and they might think they will look like that if they read the magazine.
  • 8. Here we have a gardeners magazine. This is completely different to the fitness magazine. Straight away you can clearly see its very soft and colourful. It’s a gardeners magazine and it clearly shows that by including lots of green colour. This magazine will be made for elderly people who have lots of time on their hands. It includes persuasive text stating that you can get free plants and saying ‘never kill a plant again’ This will attract the audience and it will attract people who may not have much money to spend. Its also giving you lots of Tips that are easy to accomplish. I think this is important because when you’re elderly you may fined it hard to complete tasks because of restrictions due to you being of an old age.
  • 10. This is a double page spread article in the fitness magazine. Here you can clearly see the layout is quick and easy to read. This is good as the audience may not have a lot of time on their hands. The reason for it being easy to read is that it has been set out in five quick steps. Laying out an article in steps separates the text and it makes the article easier and more enjoyable to read. I also like the fact that the designer has highlighted the sub headings of the steps red. This helps the reader understand each step and it’s then up to the reader to read the detail about the step underneath. Highlighting it in red brings out the text on the page, which makes it even easier to read. The designer has included a picture of a very muscly male to enhance the fact that you could look like that if you followed the five steps. The colours chosen again fit the masculine theme running throughout as this magazine is clearly aimed at men. Choosing colours like yellows, blacks, reds makes the text stand out on the white background of the page. Another good thing the designer has done is labeling the body parts on the male matching it the the steps on the text. This allows for a much more easy to read and it makes it more entertaining read.
  • 11. This is a double page spread I have found in the gardening magazine I am looking at. On these pages you can see that it’s a step by step. This article compared to the fitness magazine looks I lot softer. There isn't any big bold in your face text, its all at quite a small size. The only bits of text that are different is the headline ‘How to divide a houseplant’ and the ‘step by step’ text. The layout overall is set out so you can see clearly what's going on in the pictures and its engaging you first to look at the pictures so you get drawn into the rest of the article. I think this is effective as it intrigues the viewer into knowing what all of these interesting images are about. The audience for this magazine is more aimed at the elderly so the designers have included images of an elderly man working with this plant. This Is good as it relates to them, you wouldn't want to be using a young adult handling the plant as they may think they’ll want someone with more experience with more maturity to be showing them what to do. The designer has also included a caption at the bottom right. This helps give more information about the image to the audience. The designer has used words like ‘beautiful’ in the caption. This enhances more interest to the image and the reader may be persuaded to carry out this step by step if they haven't already.
