Question 1 for my evaluation

1. Question 1) In what ways does your
media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of
real media prodcuts?

2. Use
I looked at a wide range of magazines and found
that any models that are on the magazine, make
direct contact with the reader by looking directly
into the camera. This makes the reader notice the
magazine, which could lead to them buying the
magazine. Also, I have a skyline and a bottom strip,
which is increasingly common in magazines. My
cover lines offer a range of information, which is
common in magazines on a whole, but for Hip-Hop
magazines, its not common to include such cover
lines like fashion and award shows as the magazines
are quite masculine.

3. Develop
One way my magazine develops codes and conventions is
convergent links. Magazines have many convergent links
but they are normally small logos inside the magazine,
rather then on the cover like mine. I did this so that
people notice the popular Facebook and Twitter logo and
then possibly notice my magazine. Also, I have a editorial
on my contents page, which allows me (the editor) to give
a overview of the magazine and make the reader feel
welcome, by using colloquial language. This is
increasingly popular as many more magazines are doing it
but, mine is different as most magazines that do have an
editorial have a page given for it, where as I put mine on
my contents page.

4. Challenge
My magazine challenges other magazines
in different ways. Instead of being a typical
Hip-Hop magazine, I decided to try make
my magazine appeal to more females
rather then males, which they normally do.
Also, I have my price large on the side,
which you don’t see in other Hip-Hop
magazines. I did this because my magazine
is cheap, so I put it on large white text so
that it stands out and possibly encourage
the audience to buy it.
