Working Title: Veteran Gamer
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
The age range I am targeting for this project is going to be 18-42. The reason I picked this age
range is because I wanted to use the age range typically for gaming and gamers are around this
age range anyway. Even though there are younger gamers in the gaming community, the
magazine has a focus on God of War which is an 18 game so, I picked the lower age up to 18
because of this, I ended the age gap at 42 because people around this age tend to be people who
were a part of the first generation of gaming. This is important because I am creating a game
magazine and appealing to gamers will help me sell it. The gender I am planning on selling this too
is going to be male as gamers more often than not, tend to be male rather than female however,
females do tend to play games too so they may also like this magazine too. Due to the gender
difference though I’m going to have to go for males as they still are the dominant gender in this
field but, I will include a small amount of detail in the magazine that will help appeal to females too.
I will appeal to females by including some detail on games like horizon zero dawn and tomb raider.
Social statuses don’t really matter that much to me so I probably won’t try to appeal to any
particular social statuses but if I would pick any it would be low, medium and high as anyone from
any social class can both enjoy and appreciate games and magazines due to how cheap and easy
they are to read so, I am appealing to all the social statuses. The psychographic that I am going to
be appealing too is belonger as belonger types are brand loyal and won’t stray far from the
magazine that they always buy. This could potentially lead to permanent buyers so; are the best
psychographic to go for belongers are the best type to go for.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the
Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to
content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the
gender? Etc.)
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
The skills that I have gained throughout the year are quite varied when it comes to editing
software. The skills I have developed in Photoshop include knowledge of most of the tools in
Photoshop as well as being able to use them effectively. These tools are the selection tool, eraser
tool, magic wand tool, gradient tool, shape tool, pencil tool etc. I am also able to use editing tools
like bevel and emboss, inner shadow, stroke, outer glow, inner glow, satin, gradient overlay, colour
overlay and pattern overlay. I have also learned various keyboard shortcuts to help speed up the
editing process; these include being able to select tools without using the mouse and also being
able to navigate through the tabs without a mouse either. This project also helped me pick up one
or two things regarding magazines. It taught me what to look for when finding a magazine that has
being designed well as well as the components necessary to create a magazine as well.
Review your progress throughout the year- what Print and Photoshop skills and knowledge have
you acquired? How will you use those skills?
What was your Front Cover/Double Page Spread/Magazine and how will it have a direct impact
upon your project?
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept for the front cover of the magazine is going to use god of war as the background
image as this is the game that has being on my mind quite a bit lately so, I feel it would make more
sense to use it. I was also thinking about using some of the techniques that the research showed
me and these include where to place the masthead, where and how to use blobs, where to place
extra information and how to use images. I will also talk about some of the games that will be
discussed on the front cover in little side notes. I will also try to add some cool features to the text
to help the text stand out. The colour choices will be mainly primary colours as these stand out
much more compared to secondary colours. The double page spread will be an interview with
some images that I find appropriate. The Colours won’t stand out so, much as the text and images
have to catch the viewer’s attention instead otherwise the magazine falls apart. The interview will
be 25 questions about a game that isn’t real, just so the content is original and not take from

anywhere else. Some headings will also be used to show the audience what the page of the
magazine is about just so, they don’t get confused. The website will use the front covers heading
in the background so, the audience know the magazine and website are linked together. There will
also be various images covering the webpage to help add life too it. This will be accompanied by
text to help explain what’s happening but, not that much otherwise it will scare the audience away.
There will also be various advertisements to buy magazines and some games as well to give the
magazine that professional feel. There will also be a page for subscriptions and services to help
deliveries be made to the buyers house. Text with some text boxes for the audience to fill in. I will
need to conduct research into various magazines and websites so, I can start to understand how
magazines and websites work by analysing their components and the tricks they use to get people
to buy them.
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project/
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I plan on evaluating my work by reflecting on it weekly via processes and then reviewing the
outcome in the evaluation PowerPoint. I will also reflect on them in the weekly blogs to help
broaden my understanding of some of the things that may have gone wrong over the course of the
project as writing some things twice helps me remember some other instances that may have held
back my work or acted as an obstacle to it. This will help me because I can see what went wrong
and use these faults as a way to learn faster and help me create a better product the following time
around. If I can’t find anything then peer reviews can also help me find them too. Some of the
mistakes that I learn from can even help me in later life or in the section that I want to specialize in
for next year and these include how I pace myself, How I go about designing certain elements of
work and also help me with some grammar and vocabulary if it becomes and issue.
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation (Production
Reflections) and your final self-reflection (Evaluation), analysing your work and its outcomes.
How will this process help developing your working practices as you continue with your
study/media career?
