3. Research
• Strengths for the research are that I find that the research and planning are really
important as that’s where you get all your ideas and where it all starts so when it comes
to actually doing your product. Another reason why I find it important is because I feel
that it helps you out not just to put your ideas out there but also researching similar
products that already exist. For example for this project we got to watch music videos
to see how they filmed their videos and see what looked good for us to use when it
comes to doing our own. In my research PowerPoint I got to write about the music
videos I watched and what parts I liked about it. Also got to write about the genre and
artist breakdown, convections, genre characterises and chosen approach/justification
so we got to write more in depth and make us think more about them situations to
make our music video interesting to watch. Also in the research we got to do
experiments of things that we might of wanted to do which is good so we can see what
went well or didn’t so we can either use or not use to make sure it goes with the song
we picked out just because it didn’t go the way you thought it would and might look a
little silly. The weaknesses for the research is that if you don’t know what you’re looking
for or have no idea what to do or any of it it might be a struggle to think of ideas even
even you watch YouTube music videos you still might not find anything that you want to
do along who choosing a song you would like to use for you final piece. What I could of
done better I had another chance of doing it would maybe find different videos as most
of them were similar as most music videos are so I think I should of adventured out a
little more to find something different as my video is a little boring and plain and I feel I
cold of tried a little harder but the thing I anted to do couldn't happen or just wouldn't
of worked as for where live and the equipment or props I didn’t have.
4. Planning
• With the planning the strengths for it was again helpful like I said in the other slide for
research I think they’re both very important as it’s where all your ideas come
together or can keep adapting to them which helps when you're proceeding with the
other work you can look back and see what ideas you had when you first started the
project. I feel that its helpful when you write things out instead of just keeping it to
yourself as you might forget of that specific idea that you might of thought would
look really good with your video but because you didn’t write it down it wont be able
to do so I feel when planning you can look back and see what you thought and either
add or use the information you have written before you started the project. For
example when I wrote out my ideas I used a mind map to keeps expanding on them
ideas when I thought of more. Also got to write summaries and the target you would
want to meet when it comes to doing the music video you can set targets you would
like to meet and you maybe even challenge yourself to do something that you would
of never thought off. The weaknesses to the planning again like I said in the other
slide if you have no ideas or plans on what to do you will find it hard to think of ideas
even when you watch YouTube videos you wont find any of them videos are going in
and not helping you find ideas, especially if you're not interested in music videos or
the thought of actually making one either. What I would do if I could do it again is
maybe look at different music videos to make my ideas more interesting as my video
is a little boring.
5. Time Management
• With the time management I feel that I did it in a good time. In the
middle of all of it, I started to be behind but week 4 is were I caught back
up so now I’m all up to date and have plenty of time to do my evaluation.
I completed my project on time however it was close to finishing it as it
had to be completed at the end of week 4 and I completed it at the
beginning of week 5 which is the last week where you have to focus on
my evaluation but I'm now onto that part and still have time to go back
and improve or to check through my work. If I had more time I think I
would of maybe thought about my clips I got because when you’re
watching my music video I find it quite awkward and a little boring so I
think if I had more time I might rethink about the clips and able do
something else instead of what I did for my actual video. I feel that if I
did have me time I would rethink about my clips I got and or I would
change y song after I realised I wanted something a little more upbeat so
it would have been easier to get more shots of the people in my video
and they will know what to do as the song I picked was hard to dance to
as it’s slow.
6. Technical Qualities - camera
The similarity to my music video and the existing one is that they
both have nature in the video and people sat there and dancing
around which is what mine is like. This song was the one I picked to
do or even looked at when I did my music video but I aw this song
and realised that its fairly similar to my video by the things he does
and my models in my video. The differences is that he also films
outside with other people where I don’t have anyone outside I just
have the sky and the trees so that’s different plus when he was
inside he ad objects in the room like a pool table and there were
more people where me and my friends where in the studio so it
was only a white background for it all and then would change to
being outside with the scenery. Obviously the existing one I a lot
better than mine and is filmed a lot better also has more stuff going
on as it put together well however I feel with the stuff that happens
like the sitting and dancing then the outside shots are similar. Also
the song choice they aren’t the same however the existing one is
‘Sunflower’ by Rex Orange County where with the one I picked it
called ‘Nature Feels’ by Frank Ocean, they’re both not upbeat they
have a one tone style to it so I guess that’s also something similar
as they aren’t very upbeat like you wouldn’t get up and dance to it
its more of a relaxing one.
Existing one
Mine
7. Technical Qualities – editing/post
Similarities:
- The shots that are filmed
are similar to my video as
they have shots where Rex
its on the side of the
screen or the camera is
placed to have him on one
side of the screen which I
have done.
- Another similarity is
that most of his shots
are outside and I have
filmed some shots
outside too.
- There’s also dancing in
mine and the existing
one which is a
similarity.
Differences:
- When he’s outside he is
on top of a pool.
-
He’s also on a bike
- Is also running around
where mine doesn't
have any of that but
mine has got clips
outside.
- Another differences is
that he sings in his
music video where
didn’t want that
because 1) the people
in my video didn’t
really know the song.
2) I didn’t really want
it as it wasn’t what I
wanted to go for, for
my video.
8. Aesthetic Qualities
I personally think my music video looks okay. The reason why I
think its okay is because I do find some parts awkward to
watch and some of the shots that are from the outside are
maybe a little long so it can get a little boring so I feel I could
of tried a little hard to make it less boring however, I do feel
that’s its okay for my first music video as I’ve never done this
before. I feel that it was partly creative how I didn’t have any
ideas at the start of this and even when I got to doing my
music video I still didn’t really have anything planned and kind
of just filmed what popped into my head when actually
filming it. The part I liked the most when watching my video is
the bit where it has effects with the clips for example the ones
I have put on the left side along with the sky I really liked he
effect I put on the sky and it kind of changed colour when I
moved the camera around. What I would improve if could
would be maybe adding more clips of the people in my video
in different places for example on the stairs or in a different
room just so it’s not all in the studio and then outside I wish I
did more around the college as that’s the only place I could
film most of it. The strengths of my video is that it kind of
looks like a music video and that was what to goal was. The
weaknesses to my video is that it’s a little boring and awkward
and would improve it by adding different area of the college
with my models that were in my music video.
9. Audience Appeal
I have appealed to my audience who are aged 15-25 by getting music that
attracts teenagers as its not a song that adults would put on to listen to as its
not their type of music to listen to by the mood of it and the type of singers as
he also sings with rappers and most adults don’t particularly like rap music. I
also targeted it to my audience because the people that are in my video are
the same age as the audience hopefully watching. I think the parts that will
attract them the most is the editing of the video with all the different effects to
it all which will hopefully catch their eyes to watch it or to like it.
11. Feedback 1 (Amy)
• What did you like about the product?
• What I liked about your product was the editing of it like the effects. I found
the one when I’m moving around and the coloured background moved with
me looked really cool how it’s not the same it moves.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• I think that its quite chopping and random with the trees but I feel that it
made it look different but it was a little random and it just cut to it didn’t
smooth in slowly so could put an effect to make it gradually go into it than it
cuts to it.
12. Feedback 2 (Friend)
• What did you like about the product?
• What I like about your video is the clips are all different and it doesn't just
have one person it in you have two and its both genders so everyone I
involved and will reach out to more people because of that.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• I feel maybe go in different places as its all behind a white screen which is
nice but I feel maybe going into a different room it might add more to the
video.
13. Feedback 3 (Brother)
• What did you like about the product?
• I like the editing especially the black and white one on the guy on the chair, I
feel that makes it attract guys along with girls, as well as you have different
colours not just pinks and purples.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• Maybe add more clips of being in different places like have someone outside
along with the clips of the sky as it might add a little more and not so random
that you have the sky and trees in it.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
- What I agree with the feed back is it being a little random with the sky then
them in the studio so I should off added more clips in different areas to make
it a little more interesting so I would do that next time.
- Another thing is it being chopping in some sections I should of made it a little
smoother like Amy said by adding effects to it moving on to the next clips.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
- There isn’t really anything I disagree on as everything they have said I agree
with so I’m not sure what to put for this one.
15. Peer Feedback Summary
• The changes I would change are by adding more clips in different areas instead it all
being in the studio as it’s quite boring. Would also add more editing to the end of
clips to make it flow better with the next clips so its not so jumpy all the time
throughout the video especially when it comes to the clips in the car filming the trees
and sky.
After for example this clip I’d add a effect that blends
into the next one or have it for the clip before the sky
video so it smooth and flows better together.
With this one, like I was saying in the paragraph as it’s all been filmed
in a studio with a white background I would find places like this...
Which is an experiment one we did for research to practice what
would like to happen for the final product but I didn’t as it didn’t
really have a plan that was working for me.
This is them both on the stairs
and it cuts to them going down it.
16. Action Plan for future development
The problems I have had with project is that I didn’t follow my plan as the
things that were on that plan didn’t work out for me so when it actually doing
the video I went along with it and what popped into my head I told the people
in my video to do it and see what it turns out to look like. Another problem is
that one of the things I mentioned in my mind map when planning was that I
wanted to either get sparklers or glow sticks but couldn't get any in time and
wasn’t any near me so they wouldn't of come quick enough and if there was
would be hard to get there as I’d have to get someone to take me to collect
them. So I feel that they were the problems and weaknesses as I couldn't add
them to my video. The things that I’ve enjoyed is that I thought I wouldn't
really like doing any of this which its still not my favourite thing to do, however
I did enjoy the filming of it and editing of it, even though I couldn't really think
of anything to do and editing is hard sometimes to make it if it to the music or
because the people in the video might of been talking etc. overall I feel that it
went okay for my first music video and now for next time would I could
improve on which is different areas to film in and making things flow better
together.
