3. Research
I definitely think when it came to my existing products I should’ve done more
research about the music videos and explained a lot more about why I took
the time to research about this music videos and I definitely think I should’ve
researched about more music videos I think I should’ve researched about 5
music videos so that I has a good amount of research and it would’ve
benefitted me. The weaknesses of my research was doing the 3minimum
music video as I was striving for a merit I needed to more than therefore my
music video research isn’t extremely detailed.
4. Planning
In my opinion planning is an essential part when doing a project, as it can help me with figure out if the
potential ideas are suitable for the certain project which in this case it a music video. I would be thinking about
different potential music video scenes and think about them in a great detail to see it was achievable as I had a
small budget and the cast and crew consisted of two people I needed to thinking about my ideas with that in
mind. With that being said I think I had achieved that in my planning and when it came to production there was
not that much stress when filming.
When thinking about the plot of the music video I had to think about logical and achievable scenes for the
music video and I also did consider about not have too many ideas as the song Marlboro Nights only last just
over a minute and half and but also if I did have too many they would’ve been plan b ideas for the music video
in my planning. But I did my story board I really did not know what scenes I wanted to place at what part of the
song, I came to conclusion I would insert the scenes where I think is fitting as I go onto product, which can have
negative effect and be a weakness as I had nothing to look back on when doing production which could’ve been
a downfall on my work if I had a certain order of placements of clips but luckily there wasn’t a set out shot list
with my music video although I can understand that can be seem as unprofessional or unorganised but the plot
of the music video was scenes/ scenarios of moments in no particular order that could’ve happened if there
wasn’t a pandemic going on.
A strength about my planning was the potential ideas mind maps, I have the realisation that mind maps are
very beneficial for me as it helps me visualise my ideas and it also helps me expand my generic ideas into
extreme detail that can develop into something worth being in the music video. Adding to that when writing out
the the potential ideas helped me come together the whole plot of the music video as I already knew what I
wanted to do when I went to do my pre production work had the write in detail I already knew about what,
where and how my project is going turn out.
5. Planning
A weakness I have analyzed in my planning of potential ideas mind map, in my pre-production and the
Marlboro nights music video concept mind map I vaguely wrote or haven’t written about what could go
wrong and what alternative ideas could I replace what scene with which can have a negative effect of
my work as if you look at my final product and compare it to my planning, some of the ideas I had
planned out are not in my music music video and I should have taken into a big consideration about in
detail about my alternative ideas in my music video as that can have negative effect of my grade. This
will be something I will try and need to improve on into future projects.
6. Time Management
Time management was a massive fault in production from the very beginning, as I have stated in other projects
I have done that time management was also a weakness of mine. With changing my ideas of FMP in between
the time we are about to do our first week of production was obviously a big risk I took as I became behind
with everyone in my class, forming a new idea and having to redo the whole planning process all over again
was a struggle and had an effect on my work as some of the days in production I had to be working or altering
on my planning of the music video which was a negative effect when trying to balance between working on my
production and actually part taking in production was difficult to manage.
I definitely think if I did not need to work on my planning I would have finished my production on time but I
have ended up finishing my production in the second week of evaluation due to that but also with having to
reschedule to filming for the different. One of reasons were the weather conditions changing, as weeks went
by the weather condition were conflicting with the days where my crew and I had to film and the weather
wasn’t fitting with the concept of the music video, as the weather conditions out of my control, I decided we
will film whenever the weather was sunny which did not follow the schedule. Which I had effected the amount
of time I had edit due not having any footage or having little amount footage so the time I was not editing the
music video I used the time to make changes to planning and add more detail and catching up with my
reflections so the time was not completely wasted.
Another reason of why has to reschedule was the fact my crew/ cast at some days of planning to shoot needed
to reschedule as she had become busy. At times it was frustrating having to reschedule the days to film as I
couldn’t edit anything had to use the production time doing planning again.
I think the amount of time we had for production was suitable enough but definitely on my end the way I
handled time wasn’t the greatest.
7. The Skit
- I ended removing the skit from the final production in my music video and the reason for that was
every time the crew and I would try to the skit both characters were having tough time learning the lines
and acting out the lines from the script sounded very scripted and I look back the footage we had filmed
of the skit I decided to get rid if skit from the music video as to the reasoning I stated above but another
reason was because the I wouldn’t even have enough time to finish editing and add it before the music
video started and removing skit was very dishearten to do as the skit gave so much context to what and
why the music video was made. Without the skit I do think that my work s not fully complete as that it
was big moment for the music video and now the music video with no context you wouldn’t know what
music video is about which frustrating and I couldn’t think of any alternatives during my production I do
now look and wished wrote in beginning of the music video about Imagine Life Without A Pandemic it
would’ve gave some bit of context but didn’t because I managed my time terribly.
8. Technical Qualities
In comparison to my FMP with the night changes music video this
scene resembles a lot to this scene that I have expressed in my
research about existing products of what kind of shots I would like in
my music video I think I achieved the short that I wanted for my music
video and with editing the colour gradient the shot came out as
beautiful as it could have been. Another similarity could be the whole
concept of both the music videos is that there is a standard and
normal concept to both videos where it's not extravagant locations
extravagant outfits it's just normal which I think both music videos
have in common. I think where the music videos thoughts differ is the
storyline with both as my fmp music video is about friendship and
about life if there wasn't a pandemic going on and my fmp shows the
fun and happy events that could happen in contrast with the One
Direction music video of where the music video is about being the
significant other of One Direction and sad events happening.
9. Technical Qualities
I think with these two music videos they are the most alike in
the concept of friendship and having fun which I'm really
satisfied at the fact that I met the the inspirations to what I
wanted to do for my music video with this existing product
from BTS. I I think 1 scene of both music videos that I think is
very similar is the party scene in the BTS music video and the
beginning scene of my music video. both music videos have
confetti flying around and looking like they're having fun doing
the certain activities which I think is a really good similarity
between them. There's also a similarity too at the end of my
music video with some of BTS’ scenes in the run music video is
them running around and having fun in my music video we're
running around with ghost sheets at the top of our heads in
and out of frame which as in similarity but also in contrast with
BTS’ music video is there running away from the camera and
there's also close ups of them running away.
10. Technical Qualities
I think this existing product it has the most differences with the music
video to a point where I don't think I can compare the music videos there
isn't much similarities two the music videos that I can pull together. The
difference is with the music videos is the colour contrast as Olivia's music
video has Blues as her main colour throughout the music video in contrast
with my music video it has pinks light shades of pinks. With Olivia‘s music
video there is a storyline but you have to focus and notice little things and
symbolism to recognise what kind of message to Olivia is talking about.
overall Olivia talks about being vengeful after a break up with an ex which
is also a contrast with my music video about friendship and being happy
together.
11. Aesthetic Qualities
In the beginning of the music video, it starts with a blank and then number 2, 3 and 4 show up in this pink colour
that matches the colour scheme in this current which I appreciate that a lot as simple that is, I could have used a
completely different colour which could’ve made the look this beginning scene of this off putting and they
audience would reacted poorly to that.
After the numbers show the two characters jump as they shoot confetti canons and started lip syncing look
really and I really the scene and also with colour grading makes the scenes more appealing to the audience. I
think this was a great start to music video very creative way to start the first scene. This is scene is definitely
a strength in this music video but one things that needed improvement was the two characters should’ve
continued lip syncing to the music video as I was editing the music video they didn’t sing the song till the end
of I wanted the scene to end but then we had shoot in a different location lip sync to the song in different
outfits which I had planned to be.
12. Aesthetic Qualities
I think at this music video this was one the bets scenes of the music video as the sunset in the background
made look really good and with me editing the colour grading to make the sunset more vibrant, there isn’t
really much I would improve with this scene of the music video. This shot was the perfect shot and best
shot in my music video
This scene came out so beautiful and it looked great in the music video put the clip at the right
moment of the music video of where send events were happening in a rapid pace which I think was
really good on my part and this scene turned out so well.
13. Audience Appeal
I think with my final product I did appeal to my target audiences as it is relatable and also
visually ideal to what the responses I got from the survey and the confirmation it did
appeal to my audience was the feedback I received. people who did my survey her all
agreed that they didn't like the music video with too many effects and I think I fulfilled
that in my music video as there isn't much effects It is quite simplistic if you look at it. And
with the target audience overall answer of favourite genre being indie music I think this
song is very much similar to that category of indie music as this song is very upbeat and is
very popular within teenagers so I think I also met the appeal in the song choice that I did.
I also think I met the appeal of the audience music video being interesting as there isn‘t
too many things going on in the music video but there is a boring shots in the music video
either I think in my music video there is a balance of fun events and happy events that can
cause other people to have happy emotions when reacting to the music video.
I think I also fulfilled the answers that people wrote in the question of “What things would
you like to do if there wasn't a pandemic going around?” As I showed in the music video
different events of just two friends hanging out with no worries about a pandemic and
covid and met appeal with the too.
15. Feedback 1
“It’s really good, I love the shot with the sunset in the
background and the variation of the shots is really
good, the song choice is good and my improvement
would be about the text.”
16. Feedback 2
“The music video is very happy and feel good. I
like the shots with the sunset and the ghost
photo shoot trend.”
“To improve, maybe make the text slightly
brighter for Marlboro nights so it stands out
better.”
17. Feedback 3
“ The music video is very exciting, I love how the
colours look in the scene the two people spinning
around. I really enjoyed the ending of where the
two people are posing to beat which was really
funny to watch overall the music video looks
phenomenal!”
“But one improvement I would say is the quality of
the music video if they video was uploaded with
1080p the music video would’ve looked better”
18. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
- With peer feedback I do agree with them about the sunset seen with the two
characters spinning as that was a very aesthetically pleasing scene to look at. And I
also agree with Feedback 1 about the song choice I do not regret choosing this I think
this was a suitable song for my FMP. I also agree with Feedback 2 when they talk about
how the music video is happy and as that was one of emotions I wated the audience to
react and I am glad that emotions was felt when watching the music video. I also
agree with three feedbacks when it comes improvements as I agree the font I used to
spell out Marlboro nights the colour I used should have been brighter.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
- Surprisingly there isn’t any of the opinion I disagree with the feedback I received as
that the music video and the shots were nicely done the editing isn’t excessive and my
target audience have reacted to music video I haven’t received massive improvements,
overall I don’t disagree with anything
