2. Reflective Journal Week 1
• Why is this important to you? What I have done so far is, started on the contextual Research about what I’m wanting to my project about so that is graphic design and then
I research people who have made graphic design products and found out information about them. I also did photography as I will be taking pictures so I thought I’d find some information about
photography and people that do that as a job. I also did the proposal about what I will be doing and who its targeted at which will be my age group between 15-25 year old's as I will find that
the best for me as I know some what my age group like the most where if i did anything older I wouldn’t know what they would be interested in.
• What worries you about the project? Why is this important to you? This is important to me because I’m wanting to make my product appeal to my age
group and appeal to myself as well and enjoy making it at the same time as I will struggle with ideas and creativity when making it which is an important part to
making this project because I want it to look good and appeal to my target audience.
• What went well? I personally think that I got enough information that was related to what we had to find, which was information about what we are
wanting to do which for me is graphic design and then find information about people in that industry. I do feel like I could of got a little more but what I go so far, I
found that I know more about them and saw their work which helped with knowing what direction I anted to go as graphic design is a wide range and do whatever
you like in a way.
• What skills do you already have that will help you produce it? The skills I already have from doing my other projects are going to really help me
out with this one as I know what I liked and prefer to do when it comes to working who photoshop. Its helpful knowing where all the tools are and knowing how to
use them as it saves time having to search for them and learn how to use them. I also think another skill is the researching part I feel over these last 2 years
practicing on where and what is good resources to find information out is very useful when it comes to finding new ideas or to just developing on them.
• What areas do you need to develop confidence in? I personally think my weaknesses are in the initial plans and research part as I don’t put enough
information down or I just don’t plan is in a very good way to prevent my work so I will need to make sure that is all perfect. I have found this out by doing the little
projects throughout these 2 years and noticing im not getting merits or higher on them so Im wanting to make sure I improve on that for this project so I get the
grade I want.
• Doing it all again? If I was going to do it again I would maybe add more as its still not very detailed and I also found it a little difficult to find a lot of information
that was related to what I was needing. I find with researching about people that do jobs like photography and graphic design is hard to find a lot of information
even though it mentions a lot about what work they did but I wanted more about why they go into it and what’s their reasoning to it, I felt that, that information
was hard to find. Along with books about them either what they have done or what other people have done on them they weren’t very big, well known in a way as I
could really find anything that was catching my eye about the people I collected.

3. • The strength to doing week one was finding out information about these topics that I’m going to do for my
project which are very helpful when you find out information about them as you get to see how they got their
ideas and how they got involved. I find it interesting finding things out like this because everyone has a story
about how this happen. So researching about these people really helped me and inspired me to get ideas from
them that I might see what I could add into my work.
• The weaknesses are probably trying to find the information you’re wanting to find as a question you’re trying to
find might not be easy to find so when I was researching I had to try and wok it differently each time to see if it
popped up that way to get the result I wanted sometimes I couldn’t find my answer so I had to change it
completely.
• I did all this by researching about the people I wanted to research by going onto google and google books as you
can find out good information about them that way which is good.
• The potential ways I could develop on this is maybe finding out more about the topic as I know there were a lot
more information to find out. However because I got most of the information that I have shown on the
PowerPoint I decided that I would move on as I had enough information for myself to move on and start getting
my ideas on a page from what I got from my researching these people.

4. Week 2
What went well? What I think have gone well this week is that I have collected images from the internet of what I think I would like to do
for my own work. As you can see from the screenshots down below, they are all colourful and all different which is what I’m wanting to
achieve in my work, im wanting them all to be unique for each page so that’s why I have collected different graphic design styles so that’s
why I’ve got different themes.
What would you do differently? What I would of done differently is maybe get more images of the inside the double page spread
instead of just the front cover, however I have collected 2 on the last page but I feel I should get more to get a lot more ideas for my product
but I think the ones I have collected are good but I feel getting more will help me out a little more.
What could I do next time? What I could do next time is a little similar to what I have mentioned in the last one was add more double
page spreads to get a little more ideas and maybe add a little more about them I feel that I haven’t really written a lot for them as it was
quite hard to think of things to write and just explain what im wanting to do.
If I could do it again what would I do? If I would do it again, it’s similar to again what I have written for the last 2 is add more image
and text to make it better for myself and to just look like I know what I’m wanting to do which I do but for some reason im struggling to
explain it.

5. • So the strengths to this one was fining out what style I liked, I obviously had an idea but I wasn’t sure on the colour scheme I
was wanting so by finding images on google it really helped me think of more ideas just by the colours. So as you can see
from the images on the page before this you can see that my colour theme is more on the colourful side like reds, blues and
greens which I liked the though of as it was very different to what I have done in the past.
• The weaknesses to this is maybe not finding the correct image I was thinking off because it either doesn’t exist or I just didn’t
research the right thing. But I do think that the images I collocated did help the start to my ideas developing. Further down in
my research I did find more images so I know that my ideas got better and found more themes that I liked the look off to add
more to my production work when that happens.
• I did this by researching existing products already and saw what went with my ideas. So as you can see in the other slide
before this there’s vogue and little white lies which have similar themes to them. I found this helpful when you clicked on the
image which makes it bigger if you scroll down you get to see similar themes to it so either more magazines that look similar
or a completely different topic but same colour choices and that how I kept finding the images I liked the look off with the
neon effects and like th3e image on the far left.
• Potential ways I could develop on this work is maybe seeing if I could find more of a existing i8mage to what my ideas are as
I’m coming back to write this so my ideas have developed more and found better images. However because hat has
happened in the next couple of slides you will see those images when I write up what I did that week. This plans e to next
work on what tutorials id like to watch that like to the images I liked the look of and make them nhave more to them to fit
my theme with the graphic design look.

6. Week 3
• What do you think have been the strengths of your research so far? My strengths for the research so far I think are getting
the information I want for what im wanting to, it has given me a solid idea to what to do as well as I wasn’t too sure on where I was going
with this graphic design idea so by doing some research about it its helped a lot.
• Do you think there are other areas that you might still need to work on? I personally think there is as im finding myself
not writing a lot and doing a lot on my work as im struggling to find a huge amount of information but enough for what im wanting to do. I
feel that I need to get more like surveys maybe or questions to my research and maybe more secondary work as I only have a coupe of slides
on that.
• What has been the most unexpected finding in your research? The most unexpected finding in the research would have to
be when I was doing the secondary research I find that most of the work people produce are focused more online now which does make
sense as nearly everyone has a phone and uses the internet and social medias. But I was expecting graphic design work to also be popular
still on print as that’s where it started and because its graphic design I thought you’d want to really look at what has been done.
• What specific impacts will this research have on your project? The specific parts that will impact on my project is the part by
finding out what people like about the research I have collected to see what they like about it and don’t like about it which will help me when
it comes to doing experiments trying them out what they like and then doing for my actual product. Its helpful and useful which will make my
work better than just doing what I like to do.

7. • The strengths to this week is finding what tutorials I liked on YouTube that could possibly fit with my theme to this production work I
will be planning to do. I found few good one that I will try out to see if it works out well and still goes with my ideas. I won’t be
shocked if some don’t work out as I know I can change it or find something better to work with to maker my work a lot better. I also
wanted to research secondary and primary audience stuff to see what people like to see and what they like about the work I have so
far which will help me out a lot as I want my work to stand out to my target audience and the only way I can do that is finding put what
thy like the look off.
• The weaknesses to this slide is not getting loads of research on both primary and secondary as it find is difficult to find this information
online but I will go back and improve all of this so I can make it to the extent I want it to look like. When I was looking at some of the
tutorials back after a couple of weeks I noticed that my theme had kind of changed so some of the themes that I had picked might not
be featured in my production work which is fine as I tried them out and some didn’t work out. Which I think is a good thing because I
want my work to be the best it can be and having work that I’m not a huge fan of in it, it wont be my favourite work and I want it to be
for this project.
• I did all of this by going onto YouTube and putting in graphic design tutorials and a few of them popped up that I liked the look of and
again when I clicked on the tutorial more of that style popped up which I then also saved to see if liked the look of them for y work.
• Potential ways that I could develop on for this work is to see if there are more tutorials I could possibly find as my tyel might change a
little so I wat to make sure I have loads of op[tions just in case. I want to try and find as many now as well so I don’t have to keep
researching them while I’m doing my production work.
• This will then lead me onto some experiments and potential problems that could happen next.

8. Week 4
• Quick overview of the problems you have thought about? What I have thought of so far when doing my problem solving work is that it’s made me realise that
problems can happen easily, thinking about the things I’m wanting to do and seeing what I having to use/do to achieve that is by using the computer, if anything happens to the computer
than everything that I want to do wont be achievable as everything I need to do is got to require a computer.
• What is the biggest problem you think you will face? How will you try and avoid it? I think the biggest problem that could happen is the computer crashes or
it freezes on me which has happened before on the computer I am on so to try and avoid that, I will have to remember to keep saving every 10 minutes to make sure if anything does
happen then at least I wont lose too much of my work as I will keep saving my work.
• What further problem solving or testing are you expecting to do this week? What I am wanting to do this week is do one more photoshop tutorial as I have
done 2 and they’re quiet similar to each other so I want to do something a little different to experiment something new before doing it before my actual project. I will then write about
them explaining how I did it and what might have been a problem when doing it.
• Why do you think we are doing problem solving? I think we are doing problem solving because it makes you think of the things that could possibly happen when doing
your work, which is important as this project is very important and will want everything to go well and smooth so it works out fine so by doing problem solving it makes you think about
things that could possibly happen.
• What do you think about your greatest strengths in this project? The greatest strengths in this project is realising what might happen and seeing what you will
actually be doing as I thought about the equipment I will be using and then the time management making sure I have enough time and planned it out well for when doing my production
as that is the most important part to this project. So the greatest strength is just making you think about what you’re going to do and what could possibly happen.
• How is it going so far? Are you concerned about anything? I think its going well so far because its making me realise the situations that might happen and I’ve got to
experiment with photoshop, what I might do for my actual project so experimenting before it helps out a lot as you can see what went well and what you might need to practice on before
doing it for the project. Im not concerned about anything just yet so far so when anything starts to concern me I will update my weekly dairy and will explain what has happened.

9. • Strengths for this work is that I got to experiment on the tutorials that I found the week before to see if they will work with my
production work well. If not then I can find more before actually starting the work. I liked the idea of doing the experiments because
it got me to learn new methods which is good when it comes to doing a big project as you can learn new skills to make your work
look amazing. I liked doing this project because it makes you realise what could possibly happen when doing your work. So I make
sure to write all the problems that could possibly happen and then what I could do to try and make them not happen or if thy did
how I would solve them. It just makes you think about the possibilities that could happen when doing a big project.
• The weaknesses to this is if it actually happen to you when doing your work which won't be good. During this time we started to
experience problems with a virus so we had to make sure that we were saving and saving it in a place where we can do stuff at
home just in case. Luckily nothing happened during the time of doing this PowerPoint so I did manage to do as much as I could
before moving on to the next part. I guess the weakness to this is finding some of the experiments weren't going so well to what I
thought they would so I had to either stop trying with them and find something else or try later to see if I wasn't ready to do it as I
find when something doesn't work with me in that time I step away fro it and try gain later or another day to see if it works then.
• I did this by looking at the tutorial and having Photoshop open to follow the steps they were doing with an image that I chose to see
if it would work with that style of image.

10. Week 5
• Brief overview of what you did last week.What I did last week was more experiments for what I might do for my actual product. I wanted to see if there
was anything else I could possibly do to make my product be more exciting to look at and to just be a little more interesting. Im finding that im leaning more towards a neon look which I
like but I also want a different direction as it might get repetitive after a while so im trying to find more creative ones that don’t require neon to it. I also wanted to do more experiments
because I wanted to see if there were going to be any problems when doing them, so I know for next time what to either miss out or practice on to make it look better than my first
attempt instead of just going straight in and having a lot of problems to fix.
• What experiments did you do and what did you learn? The experiments I did were more on the neon side so I found some on YouTube the ones I
liked the look off and tried them out to see if id liked to include them into my actual project. So I did another neon look after the one I did last week which I made the glasses that a
model was wearing glowy which I liked the look off so I might include that in my project. I then did something else to the one I did last week which you will see when I add pictures of it,
I added some shapes to the image to add more colour and to just make it have more interesting parts to it. Then the last experiment I did was something different which had nothing to
do with neon its flowers and a boarder around it with some of the flowers on top of it which makes it look 3d which I liked the look of as well. Im wanting loads of different tutorials so I
can experiment with different effects as I want my magazine to look different and just have a lot of fun work inside of it.
• How will those experiments influence your production? The experiments that I have done influence my production is by doing something that I
enjoy and the experiments that I have done so far I’ve enjoyed making so it makes me excited to do it for my production. I think finding things you enjoying making, makes the
production part easy and makes you want to do well as you have something you’re wanting to do.
• Is there anything else that you feel you need to learn before production starts? What I would like to learn before doing my
production is maybe see how front cover of magazines look like properly to make sure I know what attracts the audience and see what looks good as I don’t want a simple looking
magazine cover as my magazine is about graphic design so its not based on one thing so I don’t want the cover to look boring as its meant to be unique so it stands out for my audience.
This week I continued to do more Photoshop tutorials, I experienced the same thing as last week finding some that work and don’t.

11. Week 6
How prepared do you feel to start production in 1 weeks time? I feel prepared to start mt production in a weeks time
because I have done my research and currently planning and I feel that I have everything to where I need it to be to know where I
need to start. The planning has helped me a lot to understand what I need to do and what I have realised that I might have to
possibly do as well like the colour scheme I usually just pick colours I like while doing my work but this time I really wanted to make
sure i planned it the way I’m wanting to do.
What planning have you done this week? The planning I have done this week was sorting out the location, what equipment I’ll
be needing and then I started planning what my page will look like. Which is helpful as I wasn’t sure how I was going to start it,
what order its going to go in so by doing a Pagination it’s really helpful when it comes to doing a big project keep you up to date and
in the right direction with the whole project.
How well do you think your first week of planning went? I personally think the first week of planning have gone well I think I
got a lot done and understood what I wanted to do in a visual way which has helped me to see what my ideas where looking like on
a page.
What impact will this weeks work have on your project? The impact this weeks work will do to my project is a lot as I can keep
looking back at this planning PowerPoint to remind me what I want to do and what order I planned it in. its very helpful and
important when doing a big project like this one so I’m happy ive got most of it sorted for when I start to make my project.
What else have you still got to plan? What I would still like to do before making my project is a production schedule of what I
want to achieve and the tasks I have completed which will help me keep organised and just knowing what I need to do next.

12. • The strengths to doing the planning was good as I started to see what my ideas were looking like with each other, to
see what went well together and what didn’t. so I started with finding existing products that I thought went well
with my ideas and then colour scheme then fonts. I like doing this part as I get to see what my ideas look like in front
of me instead of in my head. I think it also helps to see what doesn’t work together as well as it might turn out
different when see things put together. I also started to see what order and what I wanted to put on each page for
my work. This is helpful as well because you get to see what each page will look like with your ideas so when you
start your production work you can look back to see what order you wanted them to be in.
• The weaknesses to this finding out some things don’t work out well so you either have to get rid of that idea or think
of something else to add to it for it to work out. In some cases I had to change the idea completely as I just wasn’t
going to work unfortunately.
• I did this by researching images I liked the look of that fit with my idea I wanted and then with the colours I put in
the colours I wanted and placed them on the slide to see which I liked the most or what colours i8d use the most.
• Potential ways to develop is seeing which colours I really want. What font I will use for the title to my work. Stuff like
that so I know which one I like the most when I look back to see which on I want so I don’t waste time deciding when
it comes to doing my title.
• What I plan to do next week is starting a bit on my production work and some feedback to make my work look even
better.

13. Week 7
• What was the hardest part of your planning? The hardest part of planning was maybe the trying to think of where I wanted all my work
to plan out to be, like when I did the pagination I wanted to make sure If I new what I wanted each page to look like as I had all these ideas but wasn’t sure
where u wanted them to be, which order.
• How well do you feel you planned? I feel that my planning went okay I do know that I’ll have to add a lot more to it when I have gone back
and looked at what I have done so far. However I’m happy with what I have done so far.
• Are there any aspects of your planning that you think you might need to improve? I know that I’ll have to improve on a
fair bit as there isn't a lot of information on there for planning which I find it’s the most important bit to the work as its to see your ideas come alive basically
as you can see what you were thinking in images and style sheets like a plan style so where you have your layouts etc.
• How was the virus affected your project? Personally the virus has affected me a lot as I'm not in my own home just because of the way it
worked out before having to stay in that one place. So I don’t have all my stuff with me and the Wi-Fi isn't amazing so I can’t load anything that I need and it
keeps crashing on me.
• What are your plans for the rest of the production process with the current restrictions? I will try and do as much as I
can so go back and make my work as good as it can be and make more of a process on my production work as well. I have started that as I know I will have
the most problems with that as ideas can change and because of the slowness I will have to take my time with it as nothing seems to load.

14. • Strengths to this weeks wok is I started with my production work this is one that I completed. I have started a few more
but they aren’t working out the way I wanted them to so I’m going to come back to them when I have an idea to make
them look better. I am finding it hard for some reason when I’m at home doing is because the computer is slow but I’m
trying my best to make it look good and have a lot of detail to them all. I also added more to my planning as I find that it
wasn’t as detailed and some work weren’t completely finished. I also planned my tasks for this production work so I can
look back to see what I am needing to do.
• Weaknesses to this is my production work isn’t going so well I’ve only managed to do one that I like the look off the other
ones aren’t amazing and is making me think that I shouldn’t continue withy them because they don’t look good so I feel
that I might need to change that ideas even though it looked good with the experiments but I think it might be the image. I
could take a lot of new ones as the mo9dels I wanted to use I couldn’t see because of the coronavirus so that’s why I’m
kind of leaning more towards rotoscoping which I was planning on doing anyway just not for all of them. But I might
change it to have more rotoscoping as I enjoy making them and I find it easier in the situation we are in at the moment.
• I did my work on Photoshop, I like rotoscoping because I like making is detailed so you can tell who it’s meant to be so I
think I might make more of them.
• What I’m going to do next is go back and make my work have more details in them and say what I’m going to actually have
in my work as I have more of an idea what I’m leaning more towards in this situation. I also will do more production work
to see if i can either improve on the ork I have done so far or start something completely new.
